I cant figger this out!!! Right after I chop down the door with the axe, and go toward the door (where the wasp is), I step on the plate that opens it, turn to the left and press the button, which puts me right in front of the now rapidly closing door... Ive tried to sidestep fast, and Ive tried to leave a rock on the switch... Ive also tried the door open spell... Nothings working... I also dropped alot of weight to be faster, but it aint happenin... Any advice? Thanks

You push the switch and side-step to the right very quickly.
This one you gotta get through. Have you found the
side-step key on the keyboard? You probably need this
so you can push the button with the mouse and side-step
quickly enough. An you must have no damage to your body parts
(Red squares around your hand, for example) and not be over-
loaded (yellow text in the weight status).

No, to my knowledge, there isnt a key on my laptop for side stepping... Ive tried them all GRRRR... So I cant complete this level and move on to the rest of the game because I dont have a sidestep key on my laptop? How gay is that?

Don't you have a numpad on your keyboard? I haven't used a laptop for a while so I can't remember if they have one. If not, if you're using RTC isn't is possible to remap the keys? I think it is, and I've no idea about CSBWin if you're using that version.

I wish you would tell us what version of DM you are playing.
PC? RTC? CSBwin? Amiga Emulator? SuperNES Emulator?
Atari Emulator? Linux? Other?
Your laptop has a numpad, I am sure. You just need
to know how to enable it.

The logo in the Dungeon master folder says RTC, and when I click on it, It brigns up choices for RTC or DM original version or CSB ... I am playing the original version. My laptop has one set of numbers, unlike a regular computer that has 2 sets..... 1-4 selects the "magic tables" for each charachter. 5-0 adds symbols to the table. Ive looked all over the help files, dont see a way to customize it. Ive virtually tried every key with and without caps lock and number lock on... It looks like the author of the game is George Gilbert

Yes that's RTC...that's the version I use

. I seem to recall there being a way to change the keys in the Config file or something...meh I can't remember...try all the text files you can find hehe.

The config file defines the keys, which isnt correct for my laptop... I dont see any text telling how to edit the settings though.

The logo in the Dungeon master folder says RTC
Thanks. That lets me off the hook. If you ever play using
CSBwin, talk to me again. Good luck.

I think you can change the keys if you just alter them in the config file but I'm not sure...maybe should wait for someone a bit more knowledgable on the workings of RTC to answer this...

The config file I have is just a simple notepad

Yeah I know, but I meant, because it contains all the stuff for like, the way some things work in the game (cursor type, walk sound, flight arc of objects etc), maybe you can change the keys there too /shrug.

What version are you using? The config file for 0.34 clearly defines how you remap the keys

Ok I re-mapped it... I thought I had to have a program to change it... I didnt think changing it in the "notepad" would do anything... But then again, Ive never done it before... Thanks

I know it's sorted now and everything, but most laptops have a button to turn on a simulated numeric keypad, replacing keys like u,i,o,p with the 4,5,6,* from the numpad. Look closely at your keys and see if they have smaller numbers or symbols on. Press the Num Lock key to toggle this option on and off
Still a problem

Hi
I have been reading this posting, and wanted to know if you got through in the end as I cannot do it.
I am not overloaded, I have tried leaving everything and skipping through naked, still not possible. I am not fast enough withthe mouse and I cannot find a key to sidestep, only turn. I have tried the RTC Editor, but the changes do not save, not in my current game nor in a new one. I have saved key changes in the config file - no change either.
I played this game a lot when small and I do not remember ever being stuck with this kind of thing.
Help!
Otherwise I will have to stop wasting time and get on with some study/work/general adult life
thenk you

Look into the config file. There you can define a key for sidestepping which should do the trick.

thanks for the quick reply.
I thought I had changed the right part of the config file, but apparently not!
cheers

Er, you shouldn't have to remap any keys to sidestep.
The right and left arrow keys are automatically bound to sidestep left and right are they not?

No, I believe they turn you. To sidestep, you need to use the keys on the numpad.
Btw, Simon...that's the Preacher from "Chaos Engine", isn't it? Cool game. I remember there's a spelling mistake on the first level - it's spelt "The Beggining", I think. Or "The Begining"...I forget which

No, it's the mercenary. I uploaded these a while ago -- you can select them from the gallery in your profile if you like.

And turning is more logical actually even if they don't tie up on the screen - you can move around the dungeon with those four keys, if left and right were sidestep then you would have to walk blind. Still, sidestep is just way too useful (even necessary) to not have it!

No, it doesn't. Magic boxes only freeze monsters.
