I just recently heard about this game from Ms.Sera but after the first day I tried to use different rune comboes but to my dismay no messages appeared whenever I confirmed the runes. I first got "(hero's name) casted a useless spell" or something along those lines when I first played, now nothing even appears on the screen whenever I push the arrow in the runes menu. From the video I watched there should be various messages like not being high enough level to use the spell properly or the spell should come on screen and a message appears along with it. I've used the Fireball and Torch comboes and I still didn't get anything so I'm at a complete loss. Really I'm hoping this has happened before and there should be a simple fix that I might be able to do. I downloaded the latest version of CSBwin from http://www.dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/ though I still can't use runes properly in Dungeon Master or Chaos Strikes Back.

Lol you don't click the arrow to cast a spell - that deletes the last rune you selected. When you click a rune to enter it in forming a spell, it appears in the bar underneath. When your spell is ready (ie you have created a line of two or more runes in this bar) click the bar to cast the spell. If you get "Soandso mumbles a meaningless spell", this means that what you are trying to cast isn't a spell. If you get "Soandso needs more practice with this Wizard/Priest" spell then congratulations, you got the combination right but the person isn't a high enough level in Wizard/Priest skill to cast it yet. So you may cast "Um Ful" to get a second-level light spell and get the "Needs more practice at this Wizard spell message", but then try "Lo Ful" and succeed. Or maybe "Um Ful" again would work - depends on how much practice you have given them ;).

Lol it's okay - nothing wrong with asking such questions. We were all newbies to this game once, but for many of us it was before we had access to such things as the Internet, so we had to either figure things out ourselves or buy a hint book ;). Or RtFM I suppose, though I don't ever recall seeing one when we had DM on tha Atari, lol. I read the bloody things more now than I did then hehe.
Anyway, don't worry about asking any more such questions, we will help you if we can and not give spoilers ;). Glad there is another person who has discovered the coolness of this game - keep going ;).

Of course, you are not really meant to know the combos until you find the scrolls... which is a nice touch with RTC.

I sense that you are slowly dragged towards the Dark Side Paul...

If you look over the comments in the Chaos thread you'll see why RTC has needed lots of tweaking

I think chaos does this, or maybe he doens't, maybe it goes here, well it seems to do this...

etc!

Glad George seems to be back tweaking stuff - can't wait to see v0.35 materialise!
