I am waiting for suggestions

PadTheMad : UK (Preston)
cowsmanaut : Canada

The idea of a "community meeting" has been around for quite some time, but no real suggestions have come so far. I think the 20th birthday of our lovely game would be the perfect opportunity! The main question is: Where? It would be interesting to know where most of us live; I suppose most are from Britain. Any ideas?

i haven't seen London for 15 years, so...

And I have never visited Britain before! I certainly wouldn't mind doing so. Furthermore, Paul already dreamed about me visiting him and going to a pub (now playing: Return of the Scary Dreams!).

Lets all go drinking! I'm up for a meeting but as linflas said, we're pretty diverse which may not be a problem for us Europeans but may be a(n expensive) problem for the further afield of us...

indeed I wouldn't mind an "excuse" to go up to british wilds.. but where in that rather large land mass? and when exactly is this birthday?
I can in no way assure my attendance.. but would be interesting to think of. Thoug if you all wanted to visit loveley BC..

Happy to see positive reactions. Of course the main problem would be the location. So we should start with telling our location to see where we are from.
I'm from France

then don't forget to set your location in your profile. it will be written below your avatar, just like me and most people here.

Doing quick calculations, I have deduced that the average living place of all peoples on this board is roughly central UK. About Sheffield. And, would you believe it, my local pub.

Sheffield?! Gonna cost me a fortune and an age to get there!

Ok, I'll edit the first post with interested people's name and location. I assume every one who posted in this thread is interested unless the opposite is explicitely stated

Yes, I strongly support that suggestion. I think I'm probably the only one who ever visited other board members anyway. When I did so it was the first time I ever met someone I had been knowing only from the internet, and I haven't regretted it. When I've been to UK quite a while ago I've met Gambit, Andyboy and Kaspian, and I've been really pleased to meet them. Having said that, I'd like to say something about the where and when:
1) While it is true that there are board members around the world from Canada to Japan, there is a great deal of regulars located in UK, so I think UK would be first choice (which of course means, that, while I really love England, a meeting could be expensive for non-UK-residents; darn pound sterling).
2) While Sheffield might be reasonable for UK regulars, I'd rather suggest London, because it is easiest, fastest and cheapest to get to and fro for non-UK-residents.
3) While there are working regulars who'd have to take a couple of days for vacancies, and regulars out of work who are not bound to a tight schedule, there are also a couple of people like me who are studying, so it might be wise to choose a time that most schools and universities consider to be holidays, like middle to late summer.

I'd suggest for each of us to buy a small portable blue haze teleporter on Ebay. Vendor's name is quite obscure... 'Lord Chaos' if i remember well.

you might invite somebody from an ex-FTL team to come.

Doug Bell actually suggested he would do a reuniion for the FTL people in San Diego and invited me along -- that was back when I was actively talking to him, probably 2002-3. Don't think it ever happened.
But as my future plans now include travelling, I might have to make a stop there -- won't be for a couple of years though!

travelling is not very good idea, since we`ve got flashchat. maybe we should invite people from FTL to some sort of "flashchat close session" on 20th birthday and then publish that on a forum? do you think they would come for a while?

by beowuuf
flashchat is not the most reliable of media!

It's been a long time since I was in touch with Doug or Andy and I suspect they are a bit disappointed with me for not doing anything with the info they gave me...
However, I'll see how they feel about somekind of 'get-together' -- Doug did previously mention making a FTL reunion and next year would be the perfect opportunity.

Well, it would make sense NEXT Christmas, in 2007, as that's when the game originally came out. You have over a year to save up, Cows.
