heya there
due to the kind help from people on this forum, i managed to finish DM last year. it was a great relief (and, btw, a great experience to get the original Amiga playing feel again, since i played it on the Amiga 500, which now is again packed and stored in the dungeon, i mean in the cellar. i never had CSB on the Amiga, so i´ve to try a PC version).
i didn´t immediately start playing after DM, but now i feel it´s about time to do it. i´ve already read so much about its (CBS´s) non-linear madness and terrible difficulty, that i am quite curious about it to say the least.
but i have a techical question.
is the CSB_CSBwin.exe application all i need to run the game, or are there other files necessary? like, there are many more files to download on the dianneandpaul CSBwin page. are there different versions? i just like to ask before i do something silly. technical thinking is not one of my strenghts.
cheers,
Kebes

Glad to see a new challenger for CSB! I sort of envy you, because I'd love to play the game without knowing most about it.
As for your question, yes, that file is all you need to have. Just download it and install the game, and you are ready to go.
Viel Spaß und viel Glück!

The other files are patches and fixes, but at the moment more for editing or playing custom dungeons. The files you have already will be enough to play CSB and you saved game should be transferable if a new stable release of CSBwin comes out

Yes, please do! It's great to hear from people who're just setting foot in CSB for the first time. Then we can all laugh as you die horribly and repeatedly in the...err, I mean...we can all offer you friendly advice and encouragement if you should happen to have any questions or queries regarding the er...dungeon...thing.

well, what can i say... this is really terrible. but i like it. a sequel that deserves its name. so the level structures change according to the items you gain, or something. very nasty... it seems impossible just to go from A to B. not that i could guess where A to B exactly is...
Boris will prevail! (Buzzzzz actually is Boris, isn´t he? but what happened to him!)

Yay, a fellow Boris-fan!

Yes, the structure of the game seems incredibly chaotic, but with time, you will get used to it and will find out where A and B are. Just keep playing, you will find your way around.

The junction of ways is 'random' but you can get the feeling of it - nothing to do with level, and there is interconnectivity
All the CSB charatcers are new- there are alternate graphics for the DM charatcers to look boosted up

So i have one of those Corbum pieces... seems it is a long way still, though. and in the room with dozens of monsters there was Chaos... haven´t i fluxcaged you last year!? a well, so you want to strike back.
btw, this could be a possible bug: a group of four knights retreating and falling to pieces when Horn of Fear is used on them. this only happened once. not much in these knights, it seems...
this game is fun. with lots of DM practice still in your fingers, that is.

If the Knight thing happened to you on the ROS way, it is intentional, since it is the Way of the Ninja to lure his enemies into deadly traps.
Nice work on getting one of the Corbums all alone! Keep it up!

Yay cool you're doing good

. If you keep at it the way you seen to have been going so far, I don't think you'll have much trouble

. Out of interest, which Corbum is it you've got? From which path?

I presume it's the NETA corbum, since Kebes has the Horn of Fear.

well... there are keys (emerald, saphire, topaz), but no doors. there is a door, but no key (ruby, according to the hint oracle). there is another key lock in the dragon den, but no key. i am going around in circles, it seems.
so i was down in the corbum pit area, still with only one Corbum. i already used the master key. but isn´t it better to collect all of them, then go down there again? these zygies are terrible... at least i found a Vorpal Blade.
and the ways are so confusing. do you have to complete one after another? i don´t really know what to do at the moment. so know Buzzzzz and company relax a bit...
at least i found out a nice tactic for fighting dragons and stone golems... anyone want to know? (well, i am sure you all know already any possible tactic on everything...)

The doors are through the DDD - one for each way. You are unlucky to have foudn the Dain way door, without the ruby key from teh first part of that way
The dragon den...not sure which key. There is a riddle to get out of the den, i hadn't remembered needign a key to get into it
Yes, it is probably better to get all the corbums and do the thing in one
Basically, all the ways are interconnected. They are split into two halves - the first half has three areas, which you randomly come to, and you must go and find the specific key to that way. You then carry on tio the DDD, where you sovle a puzzle to access the door to the second part of the way. At the end of this second part, you get the corbum
You may as well share your glee in the tactic you have found!

It seems i always end up back in the junction of the ways, and don´t get any further.
i suppose the corbum i have is frome neta, but i am not sure.
this game is terrible, terrible, terrible...
maybe i should start over.

The junction of the ways is the reset starting place. Just carry on slowly and surely from this start. You want the dain way to get the ruby key (lots of magic needed) and after that, is the task of getting the DDD logic. It's quite tough, but each area around and away frm it gives a door to the seocnd way. Perservere!

I agree with Beo - don't give up! You have done much already! It seems you only need to find the Ruby Key from DAIN (which, for me, is the hardest part of the game), the exit from the Dragon Den (which is a rather simple and superficial riddle) and the ROS door from the DDD (which has become some sort of a legend). You certainly did complete more than half of the game! Keep going, and don't be afraid to ask any further questions! My hints are deliberately vague so I won't spoil anything you may want to find out yourself.

As for my glorious tactic defeating the dragon below the DDD, well: a pillar in the room makes this really easy. running around the pillar seems to be too confusing for the dragon, especially when changing directions. basically it is a variation of attacking from the side, when a monster is turning around (which turned out to work very nicely against the worms in DM). very simple, indeed. if this was the strongest dragon, then the fights are the smallest problem of CSB. works only when there´s one opponent, naturally.
yes, not really innovative, but effective.
So now it is the search for Dain... the name sounds familiar. so i will run around haphazardly til i arrive there.

Each way has a name attached to it at the junction of the ways.

Jfyi Dain is the Wizard path and imho it's the most eeeevil of the four. I like Ku (Fighter) the best, though Neta (Priest) is pretty easy. Ros (Ninja) isn't too bad.
Oh, and the dragon below the DDD is meant to be the second-hardest in the game. Tbh I find all dragons easy and fun to kill

. I won't tell you where the "hardest" one is.
You should basically start at the Junction of the Ways and choose one of the four paths. The paths do interconnect with each other so if, for example, you start Ku and then (without realising it) fall down a pit or walk through a wall into Neta, you can get all confused because you thought you were in Ku but now you're not. But each of the four Ways eventually leads to the DDD. From here, like Wuffy and Trant said, there's like, a "part two" of each path (though not so clearly marked). In "part one" of each there's a particular key (unique to that Way) and you use these keys to enter "part two" through the DDD. From there you work your way up to the Corbum Pillar for that Path and get the Corbum. When you've got all four you can go to the top level and finish the game

.

It might also help to know that each of the 4 pathes (fighter Ku, ninja Ros, priest Neta and wizard Dain) after leaving the Junction of Ways behind randomly teleports you at one of 3 possible starting locations for each path, each set of these 3 starting locations is somewhere interconnected. So although there are 4 pathes to choose from there are actually 12 locations the Junction of the Ways grants access to.
When I first got into better understanding CSBs structure my prefered order of things was to start with Ku to get superior armament, then Ros (there are a couple of very interesting interconnections between those 2), then Neta, then Dain. Later I changed that order solving Dain first, then Neta, Ros and Ku last, so I could browse the first pathes being only lightly encumbered and having at least temporarily use for the various light armaments found there, saving the heavy armament for the part of the game where it is actually usefull.

Didn´t play much CSB in recent weeks, but resumed now.

Nice to hear you are back at it! Feel free to ask for advice, as this dungeon is indeed pure evil.

So i am almost at the point where i already was when i tempolarily gave up a few weeks ago. I am now in KU, still in search for the corbum. I already know where it is, though. Before, i did NETA, as usual (this time i did not activate the fireball in the corbum room.)
Slow, but steady progress. I don´t play more than one hour o so at a time.
And the best way of defeating the dragon below the DDD has to be falling falling on it! With lots of luck, you easily get the steaks with minimum effort... Is there a way to calculate where the dragon is to do that deliberately?
All in all, still a very confusing task, but thanks to invaluable DM experience, a possible mission (i think...)

I don't think there is a way of telling where the dragon is if you are a level above him. So, have you passed the Dragon Den? It sounds like you did, and I remember you having trouble with it. Sounds like you are on a good way!

No, again in Dragon Den and with the same problem: I don´t have the adequate key. Is the Corbum in one of those chests?
Maybe I forgot something in the first part of KU. But I don´t exactly want to get back there...
*tries to be patient*

No, you need to carry on to get the corbum. Which key do you mean? There is an item in one of the chests that will help you progress
