[Fixed for V0.37] Odd monster positioning when near a wall

Forgive my brain for not being in work mode - blame Sophia for that (started the new SS last night). Anyway I don't know how to correctly explain this but it seems that when monsters are positioned on the near-right corner of a tile they are drawn a bit too far down or something. They say a picture says a thousand words so here's an example I discovered:

On another note, it seems that monsters sometimes are drawn under walls they are hiding behind. I'll have to check with Sophia about the actual monster position but I'll explain it as best I can:

00000
00100
000X0
00000

OK, the party is situated facing north at point X, and the monster is situated in a single square surrounded by walls at point 1. A small part of the monster can still be seen as shown below (look at the bottom left corner of the wall infront of the party)

I know it's a monster because the part of it keeps changing as it moves around on the tile.

Hope that helps :)

That's great thanks - I understand exactly what the problem is (although fixing it might take a little while!)

OK, I've fixed the position of the worm for V0.37.

The position of the other creature (in the second image) however I can't do, because I can't tell what it is! It doesn't seem to correspond to any of the DM / CSB monsters, therefore I presume it's one that's specific to SS.

Sophia - Can you identify the monster? If so, you need to increase the value of the y-offset by about 6 pixels to avoid this problem.

I can identify the monster. I'll send you a message to avoid SS spoilers on this thread.

Doh - it's actually a screamer, so no need for SS spoilers! Apologies to Sophia for impuning the integrity of her dungeon

Now fixed for V0.37

I've noticed a lot of monsters positions exhibit this problem and reported it years ago! Dragons in particular are too low and show up behind walls that should obscure them.

Yes, its the change in perspective that's done it.

Let me know if you spot any more monsters that have the same problem...

The rockpile has a similar problem to the worms

The dragon being too low has been in there since day 1 -- the perspective change has probably made it worse though.

These screenshots were taken in September 2002 -- probably version 0.21:

My apologies if I didn't report this at the time, I was sure I had!

Right - I've gone through the graphics for all the monsters in DM / CSB and I hope they're all OK now.
