level 8 chest/pit door puzzle

god, im really losing my touch, cant remember and cant figure out how to get past the door with the lever, and pit behind it (when you flick the switch the chest drops down the pit)
on level 8 after fighting the pain rats and the mini wizards.

You can go down the stairway in the room to the left, where two wizards were. There you find the chest complete with the green gem and an obscure hint in it. To the right of said door is a passage with some corridors and a stairway that leads up. Up there is a switch on one of the walls that opens a wall, some Skeletons and a pit are waiting for you there. I think the supposed way to solve the puzzle is throwing the gem into the pit which will open the door, but you can simply jump into the pit as practically everyone does, since it is a lot quicker.

thankyou very much!! cant believe how me and m friends ever solved these puzzles seem so hard.
