Some report:

-About the firestaff :
I think that the "fuse" attack should do damage to non-material beings. (a lot of damage). Well at least in DM that's how I dispatched the blackflames.
-I like : the new ra door, the blackflames swallowing fireballs.

I didn't see any Ra doors in the test dungeon, did I just miss or were they not included in it?

Joramund: Interesting. I hadn't noticed that, but testing in CSBwin fuse indeed does kill black flames! Neat.

Interesting.

I wonder if this fits with the authors' "intent" or if it was merely the fact that memory was tight in DM so they re-used a des ew cloud for a fuse effect rather than create a new cloud type that is only used once in the whole game.

Has to be, since the Zo spell shares the shares the same cloud and very much does not kill black flames... (assuming you cast it with a wall behind the flame so it even hits it...) ;)

Not necessarily.
It could've just been they decided that a fuse that killed nonmaterials made more sense than a fuse that opened doors, since they had to pick one.

Nevertheless, a cool feature is a cool feature, and you're missing it! Are damage effects like that hard-coded? I haven't play with DSB yet — been too busy/disinterested — so I don't know the extents of its flexibility.

They aren't hard coded.

Most of the game mechanics are done by LUA scripts that you can modify, from damage to xp gain and interface texts.

I also think that Fuse should harm non-material beings. Giving the Firestaff two useless options while not facing Lord Chaos makes it a bit less interesting I think - plus it feels more like the original, and you all know I am a purist.
