Hey, this is a great dea but maybe I'm missing something? How on earth does this work? How do we stop people writing the same sections at the same time? Do we only write the sections with a view to playing it when it's all written? How will the thread make sense? Confused...

Unlike the christmas letters and sentence one, I really can't imagine two people doing sections at the same time, since it requires more time. And let's face it, if two people write a section, there is nothing to stop us renaming the sections or making a joke out of it.

If you want to attack the monster, go to 13
If you want to attack the monster, but,you know, do it with sarcasm and hyperbole, turn to the other 13

If someone wants to earmark a section, they can say here.

In my experience with the one and a half frm the LW forum, then as long as the plot doesn't get too complex, or as long as people do the sections in order and keep the choices from getting too sprawling, then it remains pretty coherent.

Also, if you keep to the pending sections, then it will make a kinda sense, while hopeflly being humnourously random!

And yeah, when it's all over, you can make a doc file or something out of the result for others to play it

It's my first try so be nice. Easy riddle inside ;)

The last (or should I say first) part of the sentence is spelt wrong though, to be read properly ;). But I'm gonna write on that option anyway, given who's (probably deliberately) the character to be doing it .

Cool, I get it now and made my first contribution. I'm not attached to a computer over Christmas so will have to see what you guys come up with upon my return... :-)

Is it bad form to write more than one entry before someone else has a go? :?

Lol, well, not if no one does anythign for a while, given how fast the story os moving - nah, you can write two every so often I reckon (to make up for you being gone over Christmas!)

Oh, can I just say how fun the story already is - thanks for all the early entries people! :D

By the way, I know that there is no Altar of Vi earlier than their current position, but with the extra options introduced by Christopher, I wanted to use one of those more simply.

Are Christopher's 3 character dependent actions too much? I'm concerned that will make things tricky to manage.

Also, are we supposed to be following the dungeon layout as in the game?

are dead-ends allowed ?

Yes, dead ends and collapsings decision trees are very much encouraged or else this thing will grow exponentially!

by beowuuf
Oh, no, I wasn't going to seriously follow the dungeon lay-out.

I think character traits are fine as long as they don't have a huge impact (ie somehting you can refer to later as a 'if Mophus has teeth to scare people away with, go to' Perhaps Halk's death is maybe a little too permenant - then again, just make the other sections bring him back! Then again, that's why I have the sutuation tracker at the bottom, so you know some things may have happened

I was just thinking this evening that there wasnt a silly XMas story, and Bingo! Mophus returns...

Minus teeth if you make a wrong choice though! Scary...

I'll have you know that those teeth could well be an important plot device later on in the story, and could make a difference between survival and a devourment!

by beowuuf
Lol, that's the spirit!

And heh, see Gambit, now Halk's condition doens't get in the way if someone doens't notice he's supposed to be dead, you know, while still being funny if we have the option of 'if Halk's dead' or somehting :D

Sophia added another section 12, which is a mistake, as my last one was section 12. I think it should be deleted -- concur?

Well it's not right, and as your post was first...
Come on Sophia, you've got 2 days to update your post!

The problem is that it actually makes sense in the context of my post, but ignores my little cyclical joke, that not testing luck just puts them back in the same place. I think Sophia didn't realise my post was already #12.

Arse, I was writing a 14 the same time as you Ian. OK, I'm gonna save some of that for later and I'll change it.

by ian_scho
Gotcha! I bet yours was funnier, though

by beowuuf
@12 - Umm, I think it is just actually pointing out the other point of view, that not testing your luck leads to a better result. Both jokes are valid! It will flow sicne you see the second section twelve after the firts beside the descions. I would personally leave it (even to go (go to section 12 - either of them).

I'm surprised how much this is being taken on - which is great! Never be afraid to conpletely play with the narrative flow liek the section 12 above and either alter section numbers as alternate versions of the same choice, or blend them, or whatever

Having jsut started this, weird net and then christmas parties and so on might take me away for a few days - I should get back to this again, but if not before Monday, then make me proud! :D

Gambit, whenever we do one of these silly story type things, you always get all anal about it. :P

But yes, I didn't notice that it was already #12... like half the posts loop back on themselves and it truthfully got a bit old. ;)
(My post is now Mirror Universe 12, hehe)

That's because I am all anal, I thought you knew that? No need to edit, I liked Beo's caveat and as I've just HTMLised that bit, it's pretty funny as a second option. :D
