Ruddy Nora, an earthquake!

Now this is a rare event for the British Isles! Was watching TV at about 1am, when I heard a rumbling. I thought it was just a strong gust of wind that had buffeted the house, and could hear the pane/frame of the window flex, but it didn't stop. It got louder, then the room shook with violent bangs! Lasted about 3 seconds or so, with the walls noticably moving (or I was!). It stopped quicker than it started. I thought it was a tornado that had gone over, but then I thought, no, an earthquake? Sure enough the BGS measured a 5.3 earthquake centred about 40 miles east. Pretty exciting stuff!

Hey, yeah! As you say, I thought it was a violent gust of wind, and I was pretty tired so I thought I was imaging the wall being buffeted and moving!

Apparently you could feel it in London too though I don't recall any night time motions!

I did not knew that you had earthquakes over there!
happened to witness one earthquake so far
had been as a kid, somewhere in the 80ties/
spooky moment..

BGS settled on a final magnitude of 5.2, making it the second largest quake over land ever to hit the UK. Some minor damage to houses here. was a small aftershock too, and they reckon could be more!
