We have new spoiler tags in the forum. You can use them to hide bits of text that give clues or information to people, but that won't be seen by the reader unless they choose to.

You can use them by wrapping the text in question with [ spoiler ]tags[/ spoiler ] Don't use spaces in the tag itself -- that's done here so that the text will show up, otherwise it would have been turned into a spoiler! You can also use the button that appears in the Posting Reply window with the other formatting buttons, though for some unknown reason it doesn't appear in the Quick Reply Window.

To view the spoiler, simply roll your mouse over the blue block.

In Firefox and other fully CSS compliant browsers, the spoiler block should look like this:



And in Internet Explorer, which sucks, it looks like this:

I would prefer the last one, for versality.
It allows for spoilers to be set into the flow of text,
and also you can start a new line with it..

Yes, and with the inline version it should be easy to make a paragraph equivalent, on-it's-own so to speak.

I agree with the versatility argument. Inline spoilers can be turned into blocks, but blocks cannot be made into inline text.

I've just made a quick change so that you can see them as inline, plus I made the colouring more subtle and it should also now look the same in IE. You can refer to the screen captures of the block style above for comparison.

Weird how the separate "block vote" is winning yet most feedback has been for the inline version!

Have people seen the inline version? It was a temp fix so you could see it in action. Do we want to keep this or go back to block then according to the vote?

I said inline, but actually the arguments here have been valid - the inline version has the block functionality, as long as they don't spoil the formatting of a post, they should eb fine - and the sample given seems fine!

I think the people who like the block version have nothing to say, because it already is that way (or was, are we trying a new way now?) so they just vote and move on... that's what I did anyway.

I've been using it alot in the conflux answers, and it seems to be working well and un-obtrusively

It's always been spoiler blocks, wasn't it? The debate was inline blocks as you just used or always have that tag crate a new, quote like block.

Mmmh... the problem is on my end it seems. Netscape 7 shows the spoilers as separate blocks regardless. With Firefox it works fine. My bad, as you were.

Netscape is discontinued. I don't support discontinued browsers. Sorry!
