Characters' XP

Hello

I would like to know if there's a tool which can edit saved games to see what is the current amount of XP my characters have reached; I used Never Mind Chaos which is exactly what I need but unfortunately it cannot read my saves as I get this message 'Invalid Game Type !'

The doc says that supported save-games are either 47710 or 47914 bytes (mine are 47914) but he doesn't want to read them anyway

So I'd like to know if there's another similar tool or another way to edit your characters' characteristic?

My version of DM is 1.1 btw (ST version)

Thanks !

Hmm, DMute would ave that function, but wouldn't read that format

I think the CSBwin editor CSBuild would read that format, but does not have that function. You could do some clever editing with CSBuild and create a DSA to have your character's XP shown each time they gained some in game, but that would be advanced editing in an editor I imagine you are not familiar with :(

Ok, thanks for your quick answer beowuuf

I finished DM btw and have been training a lot in DM's walls :)
I think my team have reached a decent level and wanted to know if it was worth trying to do some more training as I suspect two of my characters aren't very far from being upgraded again, I'm not sure though that's why I asked

DMute doesn't want to read ST format files indeed
CSBuild is ok for read everything (even Custom Dungeon's saved games :)) but as you said doesn't have that option (I made a 'Character data.bin' but don't know what to do with :D..)
I tried some others tools without any success and i'm still wondering what's wrong with the NMC editor :(

Great to see that the DM community is still alived anyway ;)

And welcome to the forums, èné! :D

(yeah, it took me some time to find how to write "è" without the Copy-Paste function; I hope it's correct, lol)

Thanks for the welcome Jan !

It was the first time I played with a reincarnated team (all characters), that's why I trained a lot, also because I wanted to beat a previous DM game, done many years ago ;)

A few notes about things i didn't know before :

- The Light Spell is much more powerful than the Torch spell
- A character with o in Mana can become a Sorcerer / Priest thanks to practicing the 'War Cry' at the beginning
- The Punch is very useful to become quickly a decent Ninja (after it's getting really hard to improve your level as shooting missilles is quite useless against powerful monsters)
- Sonja is a very good fighter :D better actually than Hisssa (not to say much better...)
- Wulf is an interesting character (quite good everywhere)
- Screamers are as good as they used to ;) - Sworms as bad..
- Giant Scorpions and Animated Armours are the most dangerous ennemy (at least to me)
- Magics items are interesting to increase your level in Mana

and there's a lot more ;)

I couldn't find the Attachement option, so couldn't post a screenshot of my team :(

Some Customs Dungeons look really interesting, but sadly very instable too, at least in ST versions (crash)

Never disappointed every time I play DM :)

Most custom dungeons are, sady for you, either for the PC DM version, of for CSBwin. Although CSBwin is based on the atari version, it is actually an expanded clone so most games will not be backwardsly compatible.

Two its of good news! If you open and save the PC DM dungeons in an older CSBuild, some may well become playable under atari - certainly under CSBuild.
But more importantly, CSBwin is a really easy to use and brilliant close of CSB with both the DM and CSB versions of the dungeon available. You may be able to carry your dungeon over to it and import your DM party to CSB.

Certainly, under it you ca play most of the DM-like customs!

Well I didn't know about the CSBuild - ST relationship (may have misunderstood what you said because of my pitiful english though), it looks interesting; i may have a closer look at it - Thanks

I tryed DM & CSB Java, made an unplayable dungeon :D, and have download RTC which looks really good with its modules, so I mean all those clones / customs dungeons are enough to keep any DM fanatics satisfied :)

It is obvious that those moderns clones are much simple and agreeable for playing DM with than on their ST counterpart, I still want give a chance to ST customs dungeons as I had my first DM experience on that platform and for nostalgics reasons :) About 10 dungeons have been converted so far; if it appears they remain unstable, I will swap for RTC, CSBwin etc...

I still have a question about shields in DM anyway : I've always been wondering about their usefulness, i.e if they really protect you when you're hit by a creature, and if so, do you you have to click on the 'Block' option before getting hit, or just the fact to have the shield in your left hand is enough to protect you?

Any answers will be really appreciated - Thanks

I think they weer suppose to add a large value to your armour when equipped, but that the code isn't correct so they don't. Someone like sophia will ave to confirm that, I may have mis-remembered.

I think block as an attack does temporarily work as an armour value boost though.

OK thank you beowuuf, I never bothered carry them with me tho

I was reading the 'New Tricks' topic, and found that someone asked the same question on page 3, what makes me come right here to check out if anyone had already answered my question :D

Some interestings things out there, but the hidden skills is somewhat a bit confusing to me :(

About customs (all platforms): from the lot, any good dungeons to submit, with riddles not too hard to resolve (i like riddles but i'm very bad :D)

Sophia's "Dark Portal" dungeon has a nice bunch of puzzles in it - I enjoyed that one (I like puzzles and riddles too). I've not played that many custom dungeons though, really. If you want to die lots (more than in CSB ) and feel like throwing your computer out the window, you can try Conflux ;).
Oh, welcome to the forum, btw :D.

I think PaulH's CSBwin dungeons are rated pretty highly, for RTC LMB or Mon Ful Ir produce good dungeons too.

Sucinum's dungeons are good fighting dungeons with basic puzzles (CSBwin/PC). If you fancy a challenge, Sophia's RTC dungeons are very good, and for CSBwin of course Conflux has no equal to the depth and mechanics.

Conflux has been ported to the st, i will then try this one first (hopefully the conversion doesn't have any bugs.. :? )
Dark Portal, i have, and will try it too

Mon Ful Ir, I don't have and thought I downloaded all RTC dungeon's , I will make a search to grab it

LMB? is it the full name of the dungeon?

PaulH's CSBwin? Sucinum's dungeons? Dungeons' name please :)

The dungeons should be listed in order of author, Mon Ful Ir and LMB are two designers whose name stand out in my mind for close to DM good dungeons.

You will have to play conflux under CSBwin I'm afraid, the orignal DM engine just will not handle it!

PaulH's best dungeon - Tower of Chaos

Sucinum's - Imprisoned Again

It's better :) . Have both of them

Tower of Chaos has been ported too but...

Do you mean all converted dungeons won't work the right way? and that they' are useless?

(Wonder why some guys bothered porting them then )

I think you have misunderstood - if you play all the dungeons listed under the engines for which they are listed (and which thyey were created under), they should work. Some old RTC dungeons might have bugs because RTC has been in development and improved.

Some of the PC and CSBwin dungeons might work under the original atari ST, but it is not guaranteed because they were not created under that engine.

The CSBwin programme plays exactly like atari DM / CSB, but plays under windows, and more importantly is HUGELY expanded. Conflux is the dungeon that will show you exactly how expanded.

You should check it out here:
http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/851

Your old atari files should play under it right away, or with minor tweaking

oh... I forgot

Came back here because I wanted to ask about Team Dungeon; i made a quick run the other day and saw a very strange thing : a group of 4 Gigglers  and they are also some strange doors i never seen neither in DM nor CSB?

So I wanted to know if anyone here know this custom? Good? Bad? :)

It has also been ported :( I suppose i can delete this one then..?

What I understand mostly is that it's very risky :D .. I still will have a try anyway to see how far the dungeon works fine

Oh, i use an emulator btw :) and lots of files dedicated to that format don't work properly (crash, freeze...), so for ST's custom, i mean it should be about the same amount of success that the game may crashes or works the same way

stop using an emulator, start using CSBwin - faster, easier, and noting cases! :)

I helped in the team dungeon. Which area has the gigglers? How deep down?

You're completly right ! Will try via the ST though

After having chosen your team, go downstairs, open the door in front of you then the right door: 4 Gigglers packed !!

I haven't seen any reviews of this custom, that's why I wanted to know

This dungeon seems very weird

there is one Giggler remaining and I cannot kill him; all his brothers gigglers died after having been hit once only by a door and this one is still trying to steal my torch although he received 4 fireballs...

Maybe he's keeping a big secret :)

The place is called The Market btw

I don't think there are any reviews as it was never finished. I think it's playable to level 8 or 9, but I think the connection to my level 11 might be missing.

I think he's just a very tough giggler. The market area is designed by Zyx, and connects alot of random but cool shop and puzzle features. Below the market, if you solve the spiral, is LMB's dead area, and below that is Sucinum's tribute to amberstar area.
