Clockwise Room/Rooms

I don't recall anyone suggesting an easy, or quick, way through the Clockwise area.
I thought I'd pick everyone's brains to see if anyone had a good system to run through this area.

I just kind of tend to run around until the wall opens - when I get attacked by a Wasp (I think), I know I've got it.

That might be the one thing I never really figured out in DM. I usually go to one corner, then turn around and go back, then turn around and go a corner further and so on. I don't have a real working system.

I think I use to run around backwards, when I saw the wall change (something on the wall), I moved forward (anti clockwise) to click or pick up something or fight a wasp, then continued backwards. Its been a while though, and I never timed it so it may not actually be fast either.

If you follow the exact instructions on the wall, it's very clear :-)

Very difficult to nail down, I usually just do trial and error. But Rick Gast has a step-by-step solution in the Dungeon Master Encyclopaedia.

Yes. It's very clear. Theoretically. In practice, I always end up running frantically here and there for ages. :)

I think you have to walk anti-clockwise in the 1st and 4th rooms and clockwise in the 2nd and 3rd ones. Or something. I've heard it. Somewhere. Theoretically.

Full solution is here (http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/1315):
Spoiler
Go west then south and you will see a wall saying “Turn back”, do so, go north then east and you will come to a wall saying “clockwise”, stop here and go west for the iron key. Go back to the “clockwise” text and look to the south, take one step forward and stop, now turn around and you should see a door with a keyhole, put the iron key in this keyhole. Grab the chest and remove the solid key, you are now going to use it to unlock the way to the rest of the level. Go back out of the door, head south then take one step west and turn back, follow the path round and you will see a gold lock on the wall, use the solid key in it (watch out for wasps) and turn back. Head east, south, west then north and you will see that there is now no lock in the place the lock was. Turn east now and you will see the “Clockwise” sign, again turn south and take one step forward, turn around again and you will be back at the door where the chest was, only you will find that there is a new passageway.

This bit used to really pee me off in speed runs. But memorize the route through and it is just a few steps.

Wasps - I hate them too.

I never really tried to finish DM in a true 'fastest time' that I can recall.
I remember racing through a couple of times, back in the 80's, and the Clockwise room was an inconvenience.

I did blaze through Wolfenstein in four or five minutes, as I recall.
(Not bad for a left-handed mental case)

Hmmm. Considering that I was the only person playing DM in the area (to my knowledge),
at the time, I'm just surprised I decided to even try running to the fluxcage ending.

I know it wasn't in record time, but it was only a matter of a few hours.

 You mean Wolfenstein 3D? In five minutes? Impossible! Or you're a (left-handed) superhuman!
