People here are very polite
The topic text says it, and it's a good thing! there are no post at the "for pruning", and at the times of cowsmanaut forums if I remember right there were only 3 (one was by some finn trying to find if there were any others in finnish and another was my stupid test of moderation effectiveness. Sorry about that). Anyway the people here are very polite, I have not seen nor got any rude comment, no-one swears or breaks rules. And when someone posts first time he/she almost always gets a "welcome to the forums". Compared to other forums (at least finnish ones) this is incredible, if not even unique! Great! Epic! !
I don't post anymore for reasons real-life.

Re: People here are very polite
I also consider this forum very civilized and polite in general, much better than every other forum I have ever seen, and I believe there are two reasons for it:
1. The average age of the users here is above 30.
2. The forum is small. New users are rare and can easily make themselves regular members, creating some sort of "family feeling".

Re: People here are very polite
Thank you very much!
I think the size/age is the reason. I think we can still be rude, but hopefully it's the exception not the rule. And usually there's a reason that can be understood instead of rudeness as a conscious malicious choice.

Re: People here are very polite
Lol. I'm below average then, apparently. I was only errmm...how old was I when I joined...that was 2003, so I was...erm...19. No, 18. Yeah, 18, 'cause I joined in March, then turned 20 the following year.
I like this forum too . For the reasons mentioned above, I suppose (though I don't really consider age to be necessarily hugely important - you can be twelve or something anf not be some spammy, sweary, verbally-challenged idiot ). I like that this forum is small - we don't have a huge sort of "core" of major members, so it's easier to get to know the regulars. Avatars are allowed (unlike the other forum I visit), so I can just look at the picture next to a post and know who made it without having to bother reading the name . And people here are nice and friendly and stuff. It must be something to do with enjoying Fantasy RPGs and stuff - most of the people at the gaming club I go to are cool too .

Re: People here are very polite
@Duckman: We have be known to be rude from time to time, especially in the live Chatroom. But that doesn't seem to happen anymore.
I agree that the higher average age will help with the politeness and respect. We're not 9 year olds trying to be better than everyone else and most of the time everyone is respectful of everyone else. It does make for a cool forum.

Re: People here are very polite
Nobody tries to be better than anyone here because they all know I'm better than all of them.
Re: People here are very polite
I am member of the german C++ forum since a lot of years.
Usually one should think that programmers are able to think and know how to behave - but - netiquette seems to give no kicks. I surely had appreciated one or more young programmers to join me in my project here, but I avoided to tell about it. We'd been under heavy troll attack here, I'm so sure about.

Oops. This isn't the swordfight thread.
Face it, Linflas...you're only rude in a very polite sort of way.

Re: People here are very polite
I am clearly below average (actually just barely over half of it) and with such good manners you have I can really feel it! And to think even I am considered polite in finnish forums, because I do not swear! (however people rarely tell it because they prefer saying something rude. I am much more often called "conservative")
I don't post anymore for reasons real-life.
Re: People here are very polite
The only thing I can say is that this is simply the best place on the internet and the best internet community I can imagine! I'm glad I can be here.
Wow, then you must be one of the youngest members here!Duckman wrote:I am clearly below average (actually just barely over half of it)

There have been younger members joined, but they are grown up now I believe
Re: People here are very polite
4. The forum is actively managed with admins making an effort to keep things civilized. I've been ticked off a few times for needlessly quoting or quite simply bad netiquette (this is the first forum I've ever participated in). One of the reasons that Gambit has a 'Misunderstood' status, me thinks!

See? Even the things one might think to be less than polite are still couched in gentle compassion.sucinum wrote:Die in a fire!Trantor wrote:1. The average age of the users here is above 30.
Sucinum might have wanted Trantor to 'suffer for a lifetime' as a result of a fire.
Instead (and here I pause to sniffle in a dramatic way),
he wishes for Trantor a glorious and short-lived 'dash to ash' in fire.

Nothing wrong with turning thirty! There are many regulars here who have clearly shown nothing changes and they still remain as dumb when they grow up
Wait....

Re: People here are very polite
The lucky thing about this forum is that we have the insult-combat section where we can put all these things and where we can express our animosities freely!

It is a small, focused forum where generally the posters are intelligent and appreciate the forum and why it is.
I have seen arguments, but they are at least constructive.

No, that was indignation, this is the room for an arguments. Indignation is down the hall, on the left.

No, it isn't.
(I'm happy to see that there is a lot of people loving Pythons here - maybe we should launch a "Silly walks" thread)

And poor Masterwuuf remains in the dark, knowing nothing about these 'Pythons'
other than the greek use of the the word pithon (long O sound), which refers to believing someone.
