I cannot say what RTC does, but normally it is this:
Armor has 2 Values:
first value is Armor Value.
this is how good the armor protects.
second value, it is sharp resistance!
This ranges from 1 to 7, higher is better. How strong the armor material is.
When monster attack that have no sharp attack, you simply use the armor Value for defense.
when you have a monster (e.g. worm, dragon) that has a sharp attack, armor value probably gets less efficient.
This is calculated by how high the armorĀ“s sharp resistance is and how sharp the attack is(1-7).
normally the armor value is reduced very much if the sharp resistance is low and the monster has a high sharp attack.
This makes a normally high armor value of 100 go down to effectively only 40 maybe!
If the monster has a lower sharp attack than the sharp resistance of the armor, armor value gets not reduced!
(mithril mail has a super high sharp resistance of (6 or 7); it has medium armor value of 70 compared to armor value of plate of darc with 180. Against certain (sharp attack-) monsters mithril becomes even better than the reduced plate of darc!)
if you want to read all about it look at the encyclopedia csb .
