How to hold your hands while playing DM?

Maybe a bit silly question, but to control the games the best (fastest) i feel i have to use the numeric pad with my left hand and the mouse with my right. But the numeric pad is too much to the right for me so it feels awkward to hold my hands like that for a long period of time. I cannot move my keyboard much more to the left as my pc is blocking me there atm.
Maybe i should move the keyboard control to the ASD keys like most modern games.. But those keys are differently ordered than the straight numeric keys.
How do you guys control the game?

Numeric key pad. Though I play modern shooters with the cursor keys which was only cool for two seconds before everyone got used to WASD

Yeah I use the numpad too. I have no idea at which point it apparently became the norm for RPG/platformer controls to be WASD but apparently it is these days - I've always used the arrow keys.

I play DM on my laptop for which I have an
external numeric keyboard (USB). So I've got the laptop in the center, mouse on the right, and the keyboard on the left. It's most comfortable.

@Ameena: Yeah, see back when Half Life first came out, I used the cursor keys. However, recently when my friend mocked me for not using WASD and I said 'yeah, I just still ahve the old alf life config' he was all 'but half life used WASD' which is half-true, it was in the default sert up, but the cursor keys were too.
So who knows, I think everyone swapped pretty quickly, and we were just left behind

You can't just use WASD for DM anyway, unless you
like not being able to turn round

. I just use the arrow keys 'cause I always have done and 'cause...well, they're clearly for directional movement, aren't they, being arrows and all

.

Because the things always move in a circle, we are actually
ahead.

I've edited config.txt in RTC to have WASD. I cannot play DM with numpad anymore.

Hello there, this lurker comes out of his cave just to mention that this thread was the final straw for me - it somehow gave me the strength to (finally!) write the biggest rant ever about keybindings and keyboard layouts in games since the dawn of computers. It's only justice that I let you enjoy it (or skip it

it's quite lengthy actually).
Tell me what you think, game designers, developers, old school gamers, AZERTY, QWERTZ, QZERTY or dvorak users, numpad addicts, statisticians, industrials and demographs... if you survive the wall of text, that is

I use the number pad and mouse combined - it takes some getting used to, but is worth it.

Don't ask me why, but I've always played DM with mouse only. I do love moving my party clicking on the control arrows...
I know, it sounds and in fact a little bit it is stupid, but that's the wai I always played DM and it's clones
