Just for kicks, here is a trick to completely ruin your game using the first locked closing door.

1. Put the key in the lock and open the door
2. Move a table under the door.
3. Close the door. The table will be getting crushed.
4. Quickly remove the key from the lock and put it on the table
5. Push the table through the door with the key on it.
6. Move back so you are on the other side of the door.
7. Congratulation. You are stuck behind a locked door and the table with the key is on the other side. You can't get out and die of starvation.

...and you cannot even get back to your hibernation chambers.
But you can revive your party endlessly with the altar of VI and see the characters starve again...

The fastest way to end the game for the already doomed land of Zalk at this point would be to use the only door that you can open and push the button while under it. It's faster than restarting, isn't it?.
