Close to 5000 posts

Post by PicturesInTheDark »

Just checked the amount of posts out of curiosity and if I'm not mistaken we're only a hundred or so short of 5000 - large number. Any celebrations in order? I'll start congratulating Christophe anyway and all the other contributors and regulars for their research, creativity and patience.

And a toast to FTL for a game that still holds a lot of secrets.

5800 already. Damn.

Should add them up next time instead of rough guessing. But 6000 are near ;)

Christophe,

Did you have any idea when you started this
site that it would become such an outstanding example
of the ability of the internet to enable a kind of "Collective
Inteligence"? The research being done in the DM2 formats
is a great example. The strengths of the people
contributing to this knowledge complement each other
beautifully.

What is the probability that these people could have gotten
together before websites were invented?

At the beginning, I thought I was just plain crazy to spend so much time with a so old game. But building this site allowed me (us) to find other crazy people around the world. Together we continue to explore the mysteries of DM/CSB, with constant progress for several years...

Without web sites and forums, each of us would only have a very small part of the knowledge we have accumulated together about our beloved games.

Still crazy, but not alone. This is comforting.

A question to the regulars: what do the people around you think of you when they see that you spend hours and hours with these prehistoric video games? Hex editing, programming, decoding, testing hundreds of things?

Hi Christophe

I'm Paul's wife of forty years. In answer to your question: He has to spend hours and hours working on something esoteric and challenging or he wouldn't be happy. When he's happy I'm happy. Also I have an excuse to spend hours and hours doing the esoteric things I like to do. That makes me happy. And when I'm happy, he's happy!

How much money have you spent on your 3x5 cards so far, Paul?

They are about 0.5 cents each. The 'Fixed' pile is
1.437 inches. 100 cards is 0.812 inches. So that
is about 177 cards. Plus the 'to be fixed' is 22 cards.
Total 199 cards. $0.995.
