It's probably a mistake - it's certainly not possible to buy this game new anymore as far as I know. And at that price too! You can pick up the game and a SNES to play it on for less than half that price on eBay. Someone's pulling our collective legs....

If it did turn out to be real (perhaps someone has found a warehouse full of unshipped games), I wouldn't bother paying that kind of money for it.

tidbit's

Post by dmologist »

besides right now you can get both theron's quest and nexus less then the cost of the snes dm game including S&H.2 games not found on any other systems(putting aside the difference's of the DM ports form system to system), $15 cheeper then that DM game and on systems that can outclass the snes dm game(not saying that old versions ect are bad or less fun), both are new and sealed. I can testify about nexus ^_^i do have to disagree about not being new. heck hacker's company's ect right now can and sometimes still sell software that is new. maybe not a rerelease but original and untouched.

DM SNES

Post by steveb »

I just bought Dungeon Master SNES off e-bay complete with box, manual and cartridge tray and the game of course all in mint condition for £21.51. A little bit more than what I wanted to pay for it but there you go. I blame gambit for trying to outbid me.
Do you think I got a good/bad deal here?

Sorry about that  Although I already have the SNES version, it's not in great condition, which is why I was bidding on the mint one. Have you received it yet - is it in good nick?

Regarding whether or not you got a good deal - well, it's an auction. Even though it was a bit more than you wanted to pay, clearly you were willing to pay that much to get it, so yes, you got a good deal. I haven't found one in 'mint' condition so I think that's a fair price for it.

Re: DM SNES

Post by Gambit37 »

Yeah, that was a weird one - I only wanted the DM SNES hints, so in the end the seller did me a deal and only sent me the one book I wanted. If I had paid for the delivery for all of them, it would have been about £40....

You might think I've gone a bit mad buying up all this DM stuff, but it's all in a good cause... my new website, coming soon....

I can't wait to see your website. I thought you had gone a bit mad buying all that Dungeon Master stuff. Would you be interested in selling one of your hint books? :)

Original Amiga Dungeon Master Auction

Post by steveb »

Sorry Gambit. It's becoming a bit of a habit of mine. I'm really getting into auctions now. :) I hope you didn't need that Dungeon Master to further your website. Seeing as I'm buying it from the US do you think it will work well on a UK Amiga or will it be an NTSC specific version?

Re: Original Amiga Dungeon Master Auction

I thought that might be you - never mind. I have a couple of reasonable copies of Amiga DM but that one seemed to be in very good condition hence my interest. I intend to sell all the slightly ropey copies once I have really good copies of each of the games. I can manage without it though, so don't feel guilty!

Regarding whether or not I'll sell my hintbook - the answer is yes, sometime in the future but probably not for a year or so - until such time as I no longer need it.

I recieved the Dungeon Master SNES today. I'm quite pleased with it though I think I paid about £10 too much for it I feel. The game cart looks in great condition and so is the manual though a bit dog eared. The box is a bit worn in places like where they've been opening the box but apart from that it's quite solid. The cardboard cartridge tray is in good condition as well. There's also a sheet about Cartridge maintenance with things like don't take it into the bath with you.
I also noticed in the manual it gives you all the spell combinations and what they do??? Huh? Why?
The main reason I bought it was because it's potentially got the best graphics and sound of all the DM versions available because of the powerfull SNES chips. 512 colours on screen at once apparently. Are the Gfx better than other DM versions? I noticed on the back of the box the screenshots show the monsters have been redrawn and look a bit different. It'll be interesting to play anyway. I wonder if any of the levels are different to the Amiga/Atari/PC version. I hope they are. Next thing to do is to buy a SNES!! :)

Yeah, the graphics are completely different - the game was programmed by a Japanese team under license from FTL. Some of the levels are different too (slightly shorter), but on the whole it's pretty much the same as other versions.

Not sure about the graphics being the best though as I've only played it on my TV and obviously everything is slightly blurred. It is pretty slow to play too, and it's weird playing using a joypad; takes some getting used to.

When I get my new PC in the next few months I'll be getting a decent graphics card that can capture the output from the SNES, so it'll be interesting to play using the computer monitor. Same goes for Nexus on the saturn too...

Dungeon Master Nexus

Post by steveb »

Yeah I'm after Nexus and Therons Quest also. I tried to buy Nexus from Madiera games but they had sold the last one the day before. :(
Do you know where I can buy it and for how much. I understand that it's starting to become a bit of a rarity now. What about Therons Quest?

Re: Dungeon Master Nexus

Try www.wolfgames.com for Nexus - that's where I got mine. $40 including postage and packing from USA which I thought was good considering it was brand new. You might also get Theron's Quest from there, but it regularly comes up on eBay, so if you're patient you might get it off there.

I still haven't got Theron's Quest to work using Magic Engine emulation; apparenlty it works 100% on this emulator, so I don't know why my machine can't handle it.

Nexus works fine on the Japanese Saturn that I managed to get hold of (it was getting a 110V converter that was the problem), but no emulators can play it. If you get hold of a jap saturn or a switched saturn, be sure your TV/computer can handle NTSC inputs.

Great!

Thanks for the advice Gambit. Can you tell me a little bit about DM Nexus. Is it actually any good? Is it anything like Dungeon Master? What are the maps and puzzles like? Are the spells the same? How far have you got on it?

OT: Nexus

I haven't really played it as my TV isn't suitable (no NTSC) and my old PC capture card was rubbish - the picture quality was terrible. I will be buying a new PC soon though with an all-singing all dancing card so that's when I'll play it in earnest. That suits me fine though as for the first release of my website I'll be concentrating on the original DM and CSB and adding the later games as and when I have time.

However, the small bit I have played is quite good, but a bit slow, and tricky to play as I don't understand the manual (unsurprisingly). It's basically the original game with heavily modified maps and obviously in 3D. There's CDaudio music which pays from time to time and is quite atmospheric. The gameplay is weird though - I think it will take some getting used to, cos the interface isn't intuitive. That was the great thing about the original game - you could play it without ever reading the manual. FTL didn't have much to do with Nexus though other than the licensing.
