New recordings

Post by Antman »

Hi

I've been trying to make some new recording of DM and CSB recently and so far the only one i completed was CSB with minimal monsters, killed 4 in total i think. I also got far in DM losing no health, got to the scorpoin level twice, and both times hit a wall  . The only problem was i had to get Leyla Shadowseek at the start, possibly the worst DM character and let her starve, see if you can guess why. I always used reincarnated Tiggy and Leyla was too awful to get anywere.

Also got to the riddle level in DM minimal monsters, had only killed 1 mummy so far and got 1 hit killed by a skeleton. CSB losing no health seems exceedingly difficult and i havent gotten more than 1 one of the ways keys. If anyone has got any other variatians of recordings to try that would be interesting, feel free to post because i'm a bit bored of these at the moment.

How about that.
To open doors do NOT USE the doorbutton, if any. Use zo-spells.
To roast monsters do NOT USE any fireball-spells. Instead cast lightning bolt-spells.

For dungeon master: choose Tiggy Tamal,Syra, Boris or chani- they have a high hidden skill in "lightning/light/.."
But i do not know if those levels are obsolete if reincarnated.

In csb more or less all characters have a high mana value. So probably everyone is usable.

What should we guess ? Why you had to use Leyla or why you had to let her starve ?

Antman gets a "wave" from the mummies. That's how you know you've got fans

I don't know enough about CBS to make suggestions, but I'm curious to see what you do next.

Hey Zoooom, I could try that tomorrow, but i dont think it would be very hard unless you were pretty careless.

And the Jounrneyman was right, i needed her stupid rope, can you guess where for? :) Hmmm, and can you guess which 4 monsters i had to kill in CSB? oh, and in love with Leyla?? no way....Azizi maybe......

I still think that collecting items would make a good time challenge/minimal moves competition. It would be easy to modify the dungeon.dat of CSB or DM to create a mechanism that would trigger the end game once all items have been collected and deposited in a certain alcove for instance (maybe at the start of the dungeon)

Such quests could involve one for collecting the armour of lyte/darc, or one of each sword type: the possibilities are endless. This way parts of the dungeon that are usually avoided during the flat out time run might have to be used.

Minimum health lost competitions sounds good, but I think CSBWin would have to be modified to count total health lost as a running total.

Azizi and Leyla? I'm a Sonja sorta person myself...

I'd pick being with Chani. If she loves me back, she might eveb let me put on her moonstone and i'd be able to cast stamina potions for the both of us.

As for PaulH's item collecting idea: sounds enticing....but wasnt there some fancy dungeon mechanics going on, so the items would be in different places every time you are about to start the journey anew? Perhaps a bit of luck involved then, to have the items in the right places....

Well in DM the items are fixed, in CSB it just makes it more interesting :-)

Ah, I forgot about Chani, but I wouldn't need any stamina potions lol!!!!!!!

Maybe a 'backwards' competition. Instead of measuring the
time to the FUl Ya Pit we measure how many of the cells in the
dungeon can be reached in a given time. We could have a 30-minute
record and a 60-minute record for example. Maybe even 90 minute.
We'd have to see how it goes.

Or the number of 'important' objects picked up in 30 minutes, etc.
Important objects are those that exist when the game starts. Not
necessarily those with the 'important' bit set. Although the definitions
are about the same, I think. Killing an 'important' monster counts.
Should actuating a pushbutton or sending a message to an AND/OR
gate count? I vote yes. Should you have to open a chest and touch
each of its contents? I vote yes. Should we count a teleporter if the party
gets teleported? I vote yes.

Or, for those of us who are a bit slow of finger, we could have a move
limit instead of a time limit. Like how many important items can
you touch in 2000 moves? 4000 moves? 6000 moves?

So much of the CSB dungeon goes unexplored in the races. Having a
timed competition like this would very likely encourage extremely
different approaces to the problem of covering a mximum number
of dungeon cells. I bet the records would continue to go up for a
very long time.

Also, this guarantees that the resulting movies will be short enough
to enjoy. I'd be happy to release a CSBwin that counts the cells.
And enforces a time limit, too, if that would be useful.

I agree with the two above: much of the dungeon goes unexplored; and the movies have to be short enough to enjoy.

I also think that the competitions should be fairly simple, as this would encourage more people to participate.

The 'important' objects/buttons pressed/teleporters is an intriguing idea. People would value certain parts of a dungeon to be more productive than others. This would influence a path through in a capped game. Of course certain areas could be weighted to offset this.

Hi guys, some good ideas, especially getting important items with a certain amount of moves or time. I just made a game of CSB taking probably about 150 damage, i had taken none up to the hell hounds above the DDD who got me for 34, and then i was surrounded by Zytazes on the top who wasted before i scared them off....but when i was replaying i got a sequence timing error so i couldnt count the exact amount of damage taken. I sent the game to you Paul.S and i was using CSB 9.7, not sure if it's the latest version.
