Climbing down Closed Pits (Csbwin)

Dead posts cluttering up the front page of certain non-RTC forums are kept here. Threads have the forum subject attached, except custom dungeon threads (which are obvious)

Climbing down Closed Pits (Csbwin)

Post by Paul Stevens »

zoooom found that if you use the rope to Climb down
a closed pit then strange things happen.

The Atari code I translated checks for a pit. Does
not check for open. If there is a pit then the Climb
succeeds and the party is moved forward one cell.

This could be changed if there were a great outcry.
I cannot see that it is important enough to make CSBwin
different from the Atari version.

This bug was apparently fixed by FTL. Which version of the original game did you translate?

I don't know. When you play the game, the opening
menu says "V2.0". I don't think it is worth my time
to try and find the original binary that I translated. It
is on some very old backup disk somewhere; but it
would be a long search, I fear.

Whoa, that's pretty old. They got to version 3.6 on PC and Amiga, not sure how far on Atari. I suspect this bug doesn't exist in the later versions, will check it out.

I did notice this ages ago but assumed it was one of those quirks. If it is an easy fix I owuld say fix it, otherwise people should't be climbing down floors anyway!

I have decided that what I have read here is a
bit less than a 'great outcry' for change. I'll leave
it as it is - an interesting quirk.
