Well, the game now works in Windows 2000. What was the delay I hear you say ? Well, the physics engine I am using has a very serious bug in Windows 2000 which entailed me rewriting the entire event system in the game. I have found a work around which has no impact on the performance and it works perfectly.
Toni Y - it will run amazingly well on that machine, its very similiar to my brothers and he gets around 250-400 fps (when I dont cap it). FYI - my windows 2000 machine is a AMD XP 2400+ with 7600GS and (with the right settings) never drops below 85 fps (capped).
More very soon, I still have some more testing to do on a couple of machines...

Well I hope it will actually display anything. I'd be glad to play it with 15 fps...
Well I'm using as I said Win2000 and a Transmeta 5800 CPU with roughly 900mhz-1Ghz and a SIS315_315E with 32 MB Video-DDR-SDRAM ...
This will be the ultimate test although I must say I had absolutely no performance problem with Escape from Dragon Mountain.

We will see .. but I am not sure its going to work at all, sorry.
I loved "Escape from Dragain Mountain", it was awesome, a truly great peice of work. However there are significant differences between their game and Entombed when it comes to rendering and physics. For better or worse effect (you decide) my engine is much more hardware reliant and requires a more modern graphics processor. Basically, if your computer will play modern Directx 9 games, it will play Entombed ...
We will have to see how the demo plays on everyones computers ... and yours may well pose and interesting challenge. Who knows I may do a simpler shader for people with less powerful computers. I will wait and see what the response is first.
I am genuinely nervous about releasing Entombed. Its difficult to put your 'baby' up for general download and to then deal with the inevitable flaming that it will get from some members of the online community.
Dave.

Cowsmanaut - I have sent you an email to . I purchased a model from TurboSquid to finish the 3D contents on the demo, but it turns out that the zip file was corrupt (they have refunded my money). I have attached the bits I could extract from the zip and have sent it to you. Is there anything you can do with the info I have sent ? Please let me know.
Thanks again (and sorry to keep bugging you) :O)

ENTOMBED ALPHA DEMO RELEASED
Well here we go, please download the first alpha demo of Entombed. There are 3 levels to test and you can get support by emailing me on daveemmett@hotmail.com.
Its a free large file sharing site, so its not perfect.
ABOUT THE DEMO - THIS IS *NOT* A FINISHED GAME. THE AIM OF THE DEMO IS TO GET INITIAL THOUGHTS, PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK AND BUG REPORTS. THERE IS STILL A FAIR BIT LEFT TO DO ON THE GAME, BUT THERE IS ENOUGH FOR AN ALPHA DEMO.
ABOUT THE DOWNLOAD - PLEASE NOTE, WHEN YOU CLICK THE LINK BELOW YOU WILL SEE A 'LOADING FILE INFO ... PLEASE WAIT'. THIS WILL DISAPPEAR INSIDE 20 SECONDS, THE LINK TO DOWNLOAD THEN APPEARS.
http://www.4shared.com/file/11634436/e0 ... ombed.html
I am going out for the next hour so I will respond to any posts on my return.
Thanks,
Dave.

Trakl - if you are trying to run the demo on your laptop (spec posted before), I am 90% sure it wont even load ... really sorry.
But just in case, you need this version of .net (1.1) -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
There is also a service pack for the .net 1.1 which it might be worth downloading. Dont know if it makes a difference.
Good luck,
Dave.

It won't run for me either.
It says:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."
So I did.
However!
I don't know if I need to download something else, or for that matter, if my computer (2.5ghz, 1GB ram, some crappy old GeForce) is up to the specs.
Maybe you could post some rough required specs and links to any packages that you need to download besides this on your download link
