Similar to my request for pillars, I'd love to have a BREAKABLE / CONVERT_TO attribute for static wallitems.
It would be cool for players to be able to face a tapestry and slash it with their sword, or to destroy wooden support beams. The possibilities could be huge!
couldn't you do that with a door : changing the door bitmap to some fissured wall, a hole in the wall when its hacked and an empty bitmap for the doorframe ?
Possibly -- but I don't really think that's a good way to do it.
Besides, floor triggers can already accept activations by spells; I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to pass the same functionality to wallitems and add the ability for them to also be affected by weapons.
Imagine slashing or fireballing a tapestry and giving different 'broken' images depending on how it was destroyed -- burnt rags or tatters. And maybe another wall item is hidden behind -- an alcove, or switch or something. You couldn't do that with your door suggestion.
I see loads of possibilities for making much more atmospheric dungeons with this!
(In fact, I think it can be done in earlier versions, the mechanics for the bashable wall in the example actions dungeon gives you everything you need - including having different outcomes for slashing the tapestry with different weapons)
