Problem to find Lord Chaos
Hi everyone,
I come back to finish DM but igot a problem at the end of the game.
At lvl12,i stay some time at 30;43 to take back mana to go on the small room at 43;31.
When i want to go on the small room, lord chaos was waiting for me, so i cast a fuse spell with the firestaff.
Lord chaos live the place, i go the the room, sleep a lot of time (with speed time with steem engine), but he never come.
I wall everywhere on the big room at lvl12 but i never find him.
Someone get the sameproblem ? maybe he go on some corridor of the lvl, i dont take a look on them, but i thought he coulnd go outside this big room.
thx in advance

post moved. This is the forum for the orriginal DM questions. The RTC forms are for the Windows Clone (Return to Chaos).
as for your question.. you may have run into a bug, it could also be setting the speed up in Steem caused an error. I myself have never had this happen to me.. but then I've never used Steem either.

weird timing? I don't think chaos moves into the room if the door is shut (i've seen him get stuck waiting at one of the two exits from the main area also) and similarly i don't think he leaves the room if he goes in...it could be you left, he wandered in behind you, and you have been walking around lookign for him when he is back there
then again, it could just be a bug
then again, it could just be a bug
Lord Chaos can teleport two tiles away, so he definitely can enter or leave the small room. But not the big room since there are invisible teleporters, from what I remember. Maybe you could send your savegame and we'll have a look at it! If you're playing DM PC, we surely can fix it for you.

I tried your saved game under Steem and found Lord Chaos not long after I left the small room. ....Actually he took the team by surprise and killed Gothmog and Zed with a single fireball before I had the time to react.
I think that Lord Chaos cannot enter the small room if the doors are closed, but it's true that he cannot enter the corridors of the level.
Nothing abnormal in your saved game. And you're not far from the end ! !

OK, ....it's a bit more complicated than that.
When I checked your dungeon the first time, I used the "V1.1 Hard Disk Hacked version" which was my currently installed version of DM for Steem. With this version, I met rapidly Lord Chaos. He killed two team members the first time I tried, but I finished the game the second time.
Following your second message, I took a look at your saved game with DMute, ....and surprise : Lord Chaos is not there !
I checked: I installed the "Automation97" version (is it the version you used ?) with Steem and played your saved game. Lord chaos is nowhere to be seen and you can't finish the game.
There is really a pb with your saved game.
I'm making a wild guess: we know that there are limitations in DM on the number of monsters and the number of objects. Therefore some objects or monsters must be (randomly ?) deleted when the limits are reached. I suppose that in the first releases of DM there was a bug and Lord Chaos could be deleted in these circonstances, and in the later versions, this was corrected and even a Lord chaos regenerated if it was not present in the saved game.
You have several options:
- restart the game from the beginning....I'll understand if you say it's not your prefered option.
- finish the game with the other version of DM : you can get the "v1.1, English, Hacked hard disk version" from ChristopheF's DM encyclopedia ( dmweb.free.fr) and use it with steem. With this version you need to transfer your saved game (the file DMGAME.DAT) to the virtual diskette of the HD version, in the folder DM_GAME. This can be done easily with Zorg's "MSA Converter" utility ( msaconverter.free.fr/index.html )
- edit your saved game with G.Gilbert's DMute ( ragingmole.com ) and add Lord Chaos to it, somewhere on the 12th level. You'll have first to remove a monster somewhere in the dungeon because the limit on the number of monsters is reached in your game.
....and I suggest also that before you finish the game, you kill the dragon on the level below. He's still alive in your saved game, and I guess that you had to run a lot from him to get the firestaff assembled.

No, no, Froggy's saved game does not have Lord Chaos, it is not hidden in a flme or somewhere else.
I have extracted DMGAME.DAT from the .ST diskette with MSA converter(Note : we are speaking of the Atari ST versions of DM), checked with DMUTE and exported it as a RTC file: there is no Lord Chaos to be found, and if you play this game with the Automation97 version, it stays like that.
Then I loaded the saved game with the "v1.1, English, Hacked hard disk version", which seems to be more recent and corrects the problem, saved it immediately, and reexamined/exported with DMUTE : lord Chaos has been added on the list of monsters. You can see it by comparing the two RTC text files.
