Re: Five retro games that dominated my childhood

Hey laztozia, we seem to share a lot of our favourite games from back then! Though I always preferred Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, Indy 3 and Monkey Island 1 to the later LucasArts games, Doom and Turrican 2 are some of my most-loved games ever - though nothing tops Dungeon Master, of course ...

Five retro games that dominated my childhood

Hi guys,

I thought I'd post this here considering Dungeon Master is featured in the blog -

Any retrospective thoughts on retro gaming?

Thanks for reading.

The first few times I played SS2 I was absolutely terrified. I'd be playing it alone in the dark and then I'd hear a hybrid (zombie) moaning from some distant corridor, and then it's come running over with a rusty wrench, "KILL ME!" Awesome.

I found it equally brilliant in coop mode. A friend and I ...

DM is incredibly atmospheric. I value that above all else in a game. I think the last game to really 'grab' me like that was System Shock 2, and thats going back 7 years now. I hope BioShock lives up to its reputation.

I played Morrowind on and off for months, its a brilliant game, full of depth ...

Hello Adamo!
Yes I'm looking forward to getting out there again. England is quite dull in comparison! :D

96MB?! I didn't know Amigas had such prowess! My PCs 2GB worth of memory was never really a threat to the old 520K.

Upon playing DM again, I remembered the horror of encountering that ...

Cheers Gambit! These disks have been lying round for about 13 years, I can't wait to see whats on them! I'm sure I had DM on the Amiga but it never worked. I was bought my first Amiga in 1993, and then I became one of those people who 'inherited' another Amiga with all the 'extras' (1MB UPGRADE ...

Cheers guys, where do I get the CSBwin version from? Thanks! I played it on the ST, but I also had an Amiga, never owned it on that though. I think it's time I bought an ST & an Amiga, I have loads of floppy disks with stories & stuff that I wrote years ago. Is there any Amiga emulation software ...

Hi Gambit, I was born in Sep '83, and the game of course came out in '87, however, I didn't actually play it until around '89/90, so I was 6 going on 7!!! Don't know how I managed to work it out as 3 or 4!

Well magic seems to be the way forward for me, I'll have to explore the concept a ...

The image of 'broccoli' stayed with me for almost 20 years! Maybe it's the reason I wanted to re-discover the game to start with...! Mmmm. Broccoli. I think I know what you mean regarding the light spell, I'll have to work on my mana!

I'm surprised actually by how many early20s fans DM has ...

Cheers guys. I first played it on the ST in 1989/90. I remember getting up to 'The Matrix', I think that was what the level was called. It was so confusing we gave up! I also remember a creature attacking us that looked like a tree and you could eat bits of it when you killed it. :D I've always ...

How big is DM?

Hi all,

How big is DM? If you don't know the game from Adam then how long does it generally take for the average guy to get through it?

I remember playing it briefly when it first came out, I was about 3 or 4 years old so forgive me for being rather unsuccessful in tackling it!

Cheers!
