Re: Does RTC run on Windows XP? (nt)

I have windows XP, and it runs fine but quite slow on my PC which ran it fast under ME.

However, do bear in mind that windows XP is a new all-seeing, all-dancing version of windows which is based on Windows NT but aimed at both home and professional users. Therefor, it uses NT drivers etc so ...

Thinking about it...

Come to think of it, this all brings up an interesting point.

Why do we get no error message when the game crashes, to help debug. I would have thought that any programming language worth the money paid for it would at least put up a dialog box saying "Syntax error at 4789: partyicon() doesn't ...

Hmmm

Hmmm,

I don't see DMJava like that, btw, Gambit. I see it exactly as I see RTC, as a game in Beta being tested by people and having our suggestions added - it just happens to have an Editor, that's all.

My point is simply that you must be able to see how frustrating it is reading posts like "wow ...

Yep...

Hi Beowuuf, long time no speak!

The source of that rant was probably having just downloaded the new version and got an error trying to continue my game - so I give up.

I realise this is a testing phase and you are right, I mean a utility like the patcher in DMJava. But some of us aren't ...

Loading old saved games

I haven't mentioned this before because, frankly, I thought it was such an obvious requirement that it simply was something that would appear as soon as there was time, but here goes:

Every time a new version of RTC comes out, I play it for days until I reach a bug somewhere that stops me opening a ...

Party icons

type: bug
priority: major?

The game still seems to crash when playing about with the party icons in the upper right corner. I haven't extensively tested it, but I can say that with one character only in the party, simply clicking on his icon to move his position instantly crashes the game.

Re: For new spells

Yes, scripting is a pseudo language defined by the programmer. The game has to "parse" each line of the script to create the effect - no compiling takes place. When the player casts a "turn monster into cat" spell, the game has to go through each line of that spell's script and execute it in turn ...

Hmm, Interesting (strokes mysterious beard in manner of "the master").

I always like to know where my next level is coming from - but I like a gauge like in Final Fantasy rather than numbers.

Re: about text pads

How about a teleporter that strips a list of items out of the party's inventory and drops them on the floor before stepping through.

"Step in here, but your weapons will be confiscated" sort of thing.

I'm still not going anywhere.

Re: Tapping on the wall

It was a sort of dull thud, in fact it may even be the same sound as something heavy falling on the floor - somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
No, I don't think it was on the ST version, but I certainly remember it on the PC.

If you think about it, it's not very logical to walk along a corridor hurling yourself at the wall so see if theres an illusion there :)

Re: I appear to be stuck

Yep, still there.
I'll give the zo idea a bash, although I've been chucking rocks at the teleporter and none of them get through - If I step away, they just float to the ground like a feather as the game keeps transporting them in and out of the teleporter until they reach the ground, so it doesn't ...

Re: DM graphical differences - niggle

Just a thought:
If Theron was standing outside the dungeon controlling your champions, why would he control them to come back to him with the firestaff and then say "you bastards, you came back to me with the firestaff".

Or am I remembering DM wrong too?

Do any creatures move over pits in RTC?
Certainly, I waited forever for the coutls (don't know how to spell that) to come and get me in the pits area of the "treasure stores" but they never seemed to fly over the pits like in DM.

Re: bug survival

I prefer no buffering also.
I've always been able to remember my way around in an RPG game, so when I needed to rest in DM I was always automatically able to look at the keyboard instead of the screen and just whack about 40 or 50 directional keys in a row very fast and know exactly where I was in ...

Re: I appear to be stuck

There doesn't seem to be a delay between the teleporter flashing on and off, although since I can't see it I don't know whether there is no delay or just an impossibly short one.
If I drop everything I'm carrying and stand naked in front of the teleporter, keeping my finger on the forward key, I ...

I appear to be stuck

I've just gone past the riddle room and the subsequent puzzles and skeleton room. I solved all the puzzles except the room at the end of the corridor with the gate, the pit and the pressure pads which I have never solved.

Beyond the "I hate cowards" corridor is a door which closes behind me when I ...

I'll let you know if it happens again. I have to say my play style is very unique - I had just thrown those objects right the way across the level above just to train my ninja skills. By level 3, all my characters were expert ninjas.

Re: Bizarre in the extreme!

Come to think of it, I also noticed that the slime monsters reappeared a second or two after I killed them and then vanished again after another moment - sort of a latent ghosting! I would imagine whatever caused that was what went on to cause the rest - perhaps the game didn't like the fact that ...

Bizarre in the extreme!

I can't think what could have caused this one.

If you place items on the floor while standing in an imaginary wall, you can't see them on the ground. They are there, because clicking on the ground where you placed them puts them in your hand.

Re: The flickering teleporter

When I played the dungeon just now, the flickering teleporter did appear but not consistently. The first time I went up to it, it was there. I stepped in and was teleported back a few squares, and then when I went up to it again it was invisible. By going out of the corridor and coming back in, it ...
