DM graphical differences - niggle
Tiny switches still created a graphic from the side - a slight blemish (a second line in prt of the wall) so you could if you were looking really hard while walking along you would notice it. Now you can't, so have to be looking right at the wall.
In general, how much do you want to recreate the wall objects in DM? Obviously not on a hook for hook basis, but there were two things I noticed,
1) There used to be two manacles in the level 5 imaginary wall/coatl/ven bomb area at the end of that corridor, so it looked bland and odd walkign there when there was non
2) there used to be a wall hook on the wall after the spinner on level 9 opposite wall to the fountain. It was kinda how you knew you had beaten it!
3) The centre door on the 'cowards will be hunted down' had an oval ornate graphic so you could see the an Oitu behinds this door

Re: DM graphical differences - niggle
I originally tried to re-create DM on a hook for hook basis but found that it took forever to do. The dungeon is pretty complete up to the end of level 3 (worms) though.
If someone (or a group of you) are feeling ultra keen and want to go though and list every decorative item after this point I'll be more than happy to include the data in to make a complete copy of DM (and CSB). The format I need them in is:
WALLITEM_xxx<tab>Xpos<tab>Ypos<tab>Level<tab>Facing<tab>0<tab>0
where:
WALLITEM_xxx = UniqueID (see NewDM\Data\Objects.txt for the complete list)
Xpos = x-offset from the TLC of the current level (not the DMute global offset)
Ypos = y-offset from the TLC of the current level (not the DMute global offset)
Level = 0 based level number (i.e. HoC is level 0)
Facing = 4,5,6 or 7 for North, East, South or West
See the WALLITEM_DECORATION_GRATINGS in NewDM\Data\Dungeon.txt for examples (except you'll need to add on and extra <tab>0<tab>0 to the end)
Similarly flooritems should be specified as just:
FLOORITEM_xxx<tab>Xpos<tab>Ypos<tab>Level<tab>0
(i.e. as for wall items, but only one trailing zero and no Facing is needed as its on the floor!)
To get this information I found that having DMute and DM running at the same time and switching between them was great - this way I could do about 1 level every couple of hours or so.
Let me know if anyone is interested (and has lots of spare time!). <i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub50.ezboard.com/ugeorgegilbert ... =EN>George Gilbert</A> at: 3/25/01 3:08:50 pm

Re: DM graphical differences - niggle
LOL, i noticed that more when i went back to search for Librasulus and looked around the earlier levels again : ) . I think I listed the only three that I missed..there aren't too many that stand out otherwsie, and I have no clue about CSB.
How did you get round the annoying problem of DM creating random graphics don't count to the list? Or did you have to wander about? If someone is ultra keen i don't mind helping in that, but i think it's good as it is.

Aargghhh.... not again!
That's Theron at the door to the Dungeon... blimey, didn't anyone actually <i> read</i> the prologue to DM....? I don't know how many times I've seen people call that guy Librasulus... Librasulus was the part of the Grey Lord that went into Limbo when he blew up the power gem. Theron's outside the Dungeon, controlling the champions...
Librasulus should be the guy that appears when you're fusing chaos - but he looks the same as Theron other than the fact that he has blue epaulletes and Theron has red. I've never really understood that...

I have read the manual : )
No it's not! Lord Librasulus is waiting to use the firestaff...he actually kills you and says wahahahahaha. Lord LIbrasulus tells Theron to bring the fierstaff to the place where he originally appeared to him..in a vision outside the dungeon doors (or rather, he deposits theron after the vision at the doors) outside the dungeon. Theron is supposed to be a constant guide to the party along side of them, invisible...ie, the player! You are theron! LOL, i have the manual too : )
Sigh, this fanatical rating does tend to go to the head, doesn't it? George, I want to be normal again... : )
Oh, which reminds me...

Re: I have read the manual : )
It's interesting - I guess I have always had a different interpretation of the story, but having re-read the prologue, you are correct!
Librasulus exists in Limbo and cannot enter the physical world. Speaking to Theron in a vision, he says:
<blockquote><b><i>Quote:</i></b><hr> "You must be my arms and legs. My eyes and mind. Until I possess the Firestaff I cannot enter the dungeon. Since the Great Catastrophe, I can only appear on this plane, in this place outside it, just as he must remain within it. We are here, he and I, and yet we are not. You must bring the Firestaff to this place."
Theron licked his lips. "But how can I get into the dungeon? I have no substance either. Do I not occupy half-spaces?"
Lord Librasulus nodded. "That's logical, Theron. I taught you well. But there are actions that you can take that I cannot. Actions you must take, if I am to stop Lord Chaos."<hr></blockquote>
And further on, he states:
<blockquote><b><i>Quote:</i></b><hr> Lord Librasulus paced back and forth within the sphere. "You, with your advanced knowledge of the arts, can enter the hall and awaken them. I have sufficient power to aid you in that, but only for four souls. You may select as many as four, but no more. They will not see you, but your influence and knowledge shall guide them through the dungeon and to the Firestaff."<hr></blockquote>
Finally, everything is clear! I can't believe that I have misunderstood that for so long. I had some how assumed that Theron was standing outside the dungeon and <i> projecting</i> his guidance into the dungeon and onto the champions. That's why I always thought the guy outside was he, and why I was confused over the Chaos/Order fusing animation. Also, the last line at the end of the prologue had always re-inforced that for me:
<blockquote><b><i>Quote:</i></b><hr> Then at last the visions dissolved, and Theron stood alone at the entrance to his master's dungeon.<hr></blockquote>
That's the bit that confuses the issue, don't you think?
Snyway, thanks Beowuuf - you've cleared that up (I think), but I also now look very stupid indeed! Oh well....

Re: DM graphical differences - niggle
Yeah, i know, since it never implicitly says 'you play theron' then if you don't think that way there isn't a reason to realise that the last line is to account for the load up screen where you are standing back outside the dungeon : )
And of course it totally ruins that in CSB from what i've read in that it sounds more like it is written as if you were the characters from DM... even more confusing!

Re: DM graphical differences - niggle
Just a thought:
If Theron was standing outside the dungeon controlling your champions, why would he control them to come back to him with the firestaff and then say "you bastards, you came back to me with the firestaff".
Or am I remembering DM wrong too?

Re: DM graphical differences - niggle
That's the bit that confirms that it must be Librasulus. He actually says:
<blockquote><b><i>Quote:</i></b><hr> Welcome back brave adventurers. It is too bad you did not discover the true nature of the Firestaff. Now that I have it, I have no further need for you. (Blam, blam, blam...)<hr></blockquote>
So it wouldn't make sense for Theron to say that. I am going to go and hide under a rock for a few days...

Re: DM graphical differences - niggle
I'm going to try and map the decorations on level 8 (the cavern) as they were always very useful for naviagting away from the walls
If anyone wants me to complie anything more than this (at the very least i'll get the positions of all the decorations, if not put it in the format too) then yell, i have the free time atm!

Eh, I'm anal and had lots of new mp3's anyway, so I mapped all the levels after 4 (worms). Now the fun part...getting it into the format
Two questions - is the TLC 0,0 then?
And how do you deal with border graphics? I noticed on level 5 you just ignored them or placed them on other walls.

Coo - I'm impressed. You must have had alot of spare time!
Yes the TLC is 0,0 for each level and yes I did ignore the ones on the extreme walls
