I think many artists and developers are already happy if people actually notice their work. In these days of everybody, including extremely skilled people, being on the internet and creating things, mostly for free, it is hard enough to have ones work recognized in between all the other works.

Personally, I don't like the modern 3D games at all. Higher resolution graphics in the same style of the original DM ones will be good for me. I just tried to share a few experiences of my own tries with photos, not particularly limited to DM.

Photographs will need quite some amount of postprocessing, but often give nice results. At least I had good luck constructing houses for some game from photos of real houses that I took once.

As for helmets not giving armour - again, you need to decide on a design space and level of abstraction. A helmet won't stop concussion from a powerful blow. There was a playthrough report posted for the original DM dungeon in DSB, and there were bugs found and fixed. I played a bit myself, and it seems quite alright. I'm not that much of a DM expert, but it matched my memories quite well, so I'd say playing the DM dungeon in DSB is a good experience.

The Lua scripts are very easy to access by mod-makers and programmers, so DSB definitely has an edge if one looks for an DM-like engine to make a game with.
