Brandish/War Cry

I recall different creatures being affected by different intimidation methods: Chaos will not run from the horn of fear but will from a war cry, the irony being that as the monsters get tougher you need more powerful items to repel them, until the end, by which time you probably would have forgotten ...

"Eternal Life"

Yes, go read it, anyone - unless you're extremely suggestible, you have nothing to lose and some interesting insight to gain. The site does not ask for money.

But seriously, the author doesn't recognzie the implications of a lot of what he's saying. His rings might do some neat stuff - he seems to ...

Francis?

Oh yes, computers, message boards, etc...

I haven't had very convenient access to these things for the past while (yes, years!) and consequently have not been able to keep up with events much. I'm very glad to see that all this DM stuff is still developing.

Because so much of what I had intended ...

Spells

But they're not all the same, are they? As I (seem to) remember them:

vexirk - fireball, lightning bolt, zo, (poison bolt?)
beholder - lightning bolt, zo
fader - fireball, poison cloud, (poison bolt?), (poison cloud?), zo
Chaos and Order - fireball
Firestaff - fireball, des ew, poison bolt, poison ...

Sleeping?

Although it made things very difficult, I liked the idea in EOBII that there are some places where the party can't sleep because of nightmares. Significant dreams (at least a text summary) could be made to occur after important items have been found, and clues could be revealed in that way. What ...

Background music/sfx

Perhaps sounds could emanate from specific objects, like the running water of a fountain; with air vents, the footsteps of monsters in a different area could echo throughout a maze...

One more spell

The "confusion" spell, probably the same one that the Staff of Claws has, is included in some spell lists but not all. I don't remember ever getting it to work, but I suspect it does work in at least one version, or else it wouldn't have been written down.

Monster attributes

Could some of them gradually become desensitized to war cries or similar actions?

And of course let's not forget about monsters who are friendly or neutral until the party does something offensive, like the vexirks (jawas), guards, and shopkeepers in DMII.

Another idea - if there are inanimate ...

Co-operation

On the other hand, what if some creatures dislike others and want to fight them? (What do the dragons eat while they wait for more champions to arrive?) Or as in Doom, they could be on the same side until one accidentally hits the other, and then they turn against each other.

What about being able to fuse Order instead of - or in addition to - Chaos? Maybe after the Grey Lord appears, the game could continue for a while anyway, until you find a specific item...

Some more far-out stuff

I remember seeing a screenshot of the underwater level somewhere in >Black Crypt<, but I never saw it being played out. Does anyone have the game? Maybe it can serve as an example. Also, I think there's water (and boats) in >Knightmare<.

Some more ideas: falling rocks from the ceiling; walls that ...

New spells

Whether or not spells are made customizable, I think it would be a good idea to include at least some of the new spells found in DMII. Perhaps some of these could be enabled only if specified in the init file. What about magic maps?

Best part of playing CSB (don't read if not playe

What riddle with the blue ogres? (The Delta is one of the items that appears in different places.)

I'm still puzzling over the coded scroll.

How about falling from the top level all the way to "surrender your possessions"?

Or being so stupid as to walk straight into the invisible pit with the ...

What about the option to repeat certain mutations of objects? e.g., to fill a room with a large number of the same monster (without cloning), to change the hit points of all the monsters of a certain type in the same area, or to highlight ...

Sorry, I suppose you're right about vexirks. But I do remember changing the colours of a monster just by adding another monster to the same level. I'll try it again just in case.

Re: Some info on Monster Colours / Palettes

The palette can be altered simply by changing which monsters are present on a level. I don't know if some monsters get priority over others or if it just depends on the order in which DMute handles their presence (when using the "check level integrity" feature). I don't remember which combinations ...
