Re: Your favourite armour/weapon/misc. items setup?

Long route back? Yeah, probably, but not aware of or can't remember the shortcuts. And maybe I do need to step on another pad to stop the door closing.

But Ameena, it's a reinforced door, (I think), so, (I'm guessing), immune to physical attack.

Re: Your favourite armour/weapon/misc. items setup?

This is the sort of thing I missed this time round. First time I played DM I mapped every single level, searching for every button and "bumping" into every wall to find false ones. Still not 100% sure how to get back to the top level though, as there's a door, (near to the "Test your Strength" bit ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

I must've used the Magic Vision spell originally then, to get the 4th pair of Boots. (Or reloaded an old save-game.) Never mind, won't be going back to DM much now.

Yes, they were "invisible" pits I was falling through. Easy enough to spot if you can take your time...impossible to spot if a nasty ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

Oh yeah, I remember now...have to throw the Activcated Firestaff out of the room on the Dragon Level. Cool. I've a saved game with the Firestaff not yet activated, which I might re-load, because there's still lots I've not managed to complete, and I'm sure in the original game I completed everything ...

Re: Your favourite armour/weapon/misc. items setup?

Interesting question. I was never that bothered about favourites in the way of Armour and acoutrements like necklaces and what-not. I do like the Boots of Speed particularly, because, like others have said, I'm so familiar with the games now that I don't level-up as much as a newbie might, so my ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

Yeah, I've finished it now. Was always a little disappointed in how relatively easy it was to defeat Lord Chaos at the end. Once the Firey Demon things were taken care of, (oh yeah, and once Lord Chaos moved out of the way of the entrance to the level, since he'd effectively trapped me.

One thing ...

Re: Tips for speedrun

Is it (1) with an incomplete Firestaff and (2) with a complete Firestaff? I don't remember.

No, it's only one with the incomplete Firestaff. The completed Firestaff was never supposed to be brought to the start and so there's no alternative ending for it. That makes 2 endings, not 3.

Thanks for ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

That's a relief then. There have been several times where they've killed one or all of my party before I've even seen them. Plus they respawn a LOT!! Never really used "Shield Spells" when I originally played DM, but I'm starting to think I might have to, especially when I get to those Fire Demon ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

Ah yeah, Basingstoke's not far...go there relatively often.

Had a great weekend on RTC, remembering the maps and the monsters that lurk within. I'm not 100% sure now where I did learn all the spells all those decades ago...think it might have just been the end of level two.

I'd forgotten how tough ...

Re: Tips for speedrun

Yeah, that's what I meant. And I suppose it's not "completing" the game as such, but it does end when you return to the beginning with the Firestaff. Without the Gem, I think Lord Order, or whatever he's called, welcomes you back and says he'll take the Firestaff and complete the Quest for you. With ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

Hi again all.

Ammena, I'm in Winchester...whereabouts are you? And the level I'm talking about is, I think, below the Worm level. I seem to remember you go down the stairs from the Worm level into a small area where there's another stairway down, and a deep alcove where I used to store my food and ...

Re: Access to all levels even once firestaff has been activa

I was going to say, in original DM on the Amiga I took the Firestaff and, another time, the activated Firestaff right up to the very entrance to the Dungeon. Which was quite interesting, the first times I did it. ;)

EDIT: Or perhaps I'm wrong, and taking the Activated Firestaff up to the "front door ...

Re: Memorable Moments...

Oh lordy, the memories this is bringing back for me, reading everyone else's thoughts and musings. I first played DM when it came out at the end of the 80s I guess?, and most of the memories already expressed are strong in my mind still, or flooding back, and it's great! Thanks everyone.

Re: Tips for speedrun

Personally I've never tried a speed run at any of these, 'cause I never play stuff for speed so I know I'd be useless at it and that's not what makes a game fun to me anyway - I prefer to spend my time poking around in every last little corner to see what I can find :D.
Exactly the same as me. I ...

Re: So, tell us about yourself...

Hi all, Tim here, from Southern England. Kind of surprised at myself for not finding this forum sooner, what with the fact I used to be a DM fanatic and also a Forum fanatic! ;)

I'm 40 and first discovered DM back in the late 80s I guess, and I would say it's probably the most influential game I've ...
