Re: splicing logs

I'm having trouble spliceing logs again. I'm getting a playfile.log but it only contains the first log. Here is my splicetrace.txt: SpliceCSB version 2.4 Path = E:\LOGS\ RECOR~81.LOG, type=c8,start=00000000 @ 40/1,type=d2,end=00001ab9 @ 2280/5 Searching for files. This takes a while. -1 record00000....

Re: Conflux III discussion thread - potential spoilers

As far as the guides go, it depends on how difficult you want it. I used to think that Gando was the hardest, but now I think it's Zed, becuase he's so average. Leif is the easiest. Yes, use need to keep the Challenge scroll in your inventory to get the point notification. The Challenge is as follow...

I play the Challenge. Take one of the guides and complete the Challenge to 130 points. Then add Mophus, Leyla, and Halk to the party and train them up to UM Master. Then use the Emerald of Fate to add Gothmog and train eveyone up to EE Master and then complete all four Guildmaster quests. After that...

The night shadow cloak gives +8 to Dexterity. Elven mail gives +1 to Dexterity and the Elven aketon gives +2 to Dexterity. Elven armor is roughly half the weight of mithril. Game time varies upon what I'm trying to accomplish, but it has been gettting progressively shorter. Mophus's Quest alone adds...

Unfortunately, I could not save all my logs for the game as I ran out of space after 5000 files. Weight was definitely an issue thoughout the game. I know your version was different because there were stairs in places that don't have stairs any more. The gaps in the Council level have statues now an...

Re: Guess the game

I have to agree with Saumun, BT3 was a mess compared to the previous games. In BT1 and BT2 you could at least explore a little, but in BT3 you could hardly move a square without a monster encounter. BT3 was more of a science fiction adventure than a fantasy one.

- I actually made a run through of the Maleficient guild, you can find it here http://dianneandpaul.net/CSBwin/Conflux_Competition/. Not needing the SAR keys makes it a lot easier actually. Still long and difficult, health regenerates so slowly! I think it would be impossible actually using and tra...

The crystal sword is found in the Clockwork Knights maze. The entrance to the Clockwork Knights is in the Dragon's Lair. A single champion can access the Dragon's Lair after solving two riddles in Moria. If you have four champions, you can access the Dragon's Lair via the Green Nightmare and down th...

Re SAR keys: I do now. I just completed a playthrough of the Maleficient guild, although there doesn't actually seem to be a game end... The game was long and brutal, but I managed to get to the stairs in the Emerald Forest. I had to rethink how I played Conflux, and use every trick I've learned to ...

Sorry to bother you, but I managed to fix the problem. When I edited my playfile.log it added extra ( 0D 0A )'s to the end of the file. When I removed them, I was able to use the playback to jump me back into my game.

How do you truncate a playfile.log without generating a system error 0x00003342?

There are many items that are meant for specific champions. Sonja can wield Leviathon with bonuses and without penalties. The crystal sword can damage anyone w...

Yes, I have. It can't be uncursed. The only funereal weapon I use is the rapier, which doesn't affect stats.

The One Ring is one of the seven funereal weapons in the Challenge. Its only important if you are playing the Challenge, where it is one point. I've never used it since it's cursed, so I don't know if it casts invisibility.

This is really fascinating. Like some others here, I was a only a kid when I first played this game and had no prior exposure to D&D. It would have been really interesting to have the rust monster actually damage your weapons and armor. The custom dungeon Conflux has a ruster that can break wea...

Once you have put a few games under your belt with the other champions, you should try the Challenge. For the full Challenge, you need to take a single champion until you have unlocked the Guildmaster mirrors(Halk, Gothmog, Syra, and Mophus). The Guildmaster quests are fun and challenging. Having co...

Re: Conflux III discussion thread - potential spoilers

Why? There are a number of doors that are not openable. Many of them are in Moria. I don't open any of the Emerald doors, nor any of the gem doors in Moria except the brown gate. There are two doors in the Mines that I don't open so that I don't have to deal with wandering munchers. There are also m...

The 'grey lord' door is not one of the doors I was referencing. I can't remember if I even have a lock pick. Will multiple attempts at opening a locked door advance a character's ability to pick locks? The two doors I was curious about are just before the barracks, on the right side as you come nea...

In the prison area, the door with the grey lord behind it is un-openable. The lock in that area is pickable. At the other end of the hallway, one closed door is accessed from a pit on the Spiders level and, the other RA door, where you can see boots, it accessed on the other side.

Re: Maximum stamina gained at level up?

I'll have to disagree with this strategy for stamina, but not for stats. I push stats when I level, this mean if I go up a level in fighter, I won't save unless I get +2 STR, +1 DEX, +1 AF/VIT. For ninja, I need +1 STR, +2 DEX, +1AF/VIT. For priest I need +1 WIZ, +1 VIT, +1 AM, +1AF(every other leve...

I was using sector editors before hexeditors became the new standard. I used KnifeST to adjust stats in DM and Phantasie. Xvi32 works well in Windows.

Re: Dane Potions, Wisdom, and Mana Recovery.

Editing stats can have unforseen issues. I experimented with editing stats on the ST with a sector editor. When my Anti-fire was set to over 128, my champions would take more fire damage if I cast fireshield. A MON fireball would kill my party if fireshielded, but only take about 50-100 damage unshi...

Re: Maximum stamina gained at level up?

Beyond that, that one puzzle on level 6 where you have to shoot an arrow is the only time I tend to use KU potions, as Halk, Hisssa, Sonja, Stamm, and maybe Daroou tend to be the only champions that can do that puzzle without a strength potion. In my last playthrough, I was playing Gothmog alone. I...

I like to carry a rock in my non-active hand to deal with gigglers. They seam to always go towards a torch or rock in that hand.

Gigglers can steal from your inventory in Conflux, but it's most likely from added code.

If you try Conflux after completing DM/CSB, both gigglers and rusters are nastier. Gigglers in Conflux can steal items from anywhere including your active hand. Rusters can actually break weapons!

I'd beg to differ. I was tremendously disappointed when I was able to spell bind Mangar into my party. Fighting all those berzerkers was fun though.
