Re: About to play DM for first time since 88 - will need adv

I've not played CSB, but these guys make it sounds like just about the hardest Dungeon Crawler in existence... Al I can say is good luck!

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Timing puzzles have proved tricky for many people, there's a load of ways to make them easier though, I wrote a sticky post here that covers them all. :)

Re: Legend of Grimrock

2)How closely does LoG resemble DM in terms of gameplay, length, speed and style? Are the enemies similar? Are the puzzle similar? Does the atmosphere feel like DM?

Well I'm not as DM experienced as the rest of you guys but I will take a crack at this.

Gameplay - LoG has many DM inspired ...

If you'd lost it, you could have contacted the team they would have sent you a new link, they're good like that. :)

Re: Legend of Grimrock

No it's fine the saves are in a different location. (in my documents atm) You can always back up the save files if you are worried.

Quick save is very nice! ;-)

Re: Legend of Grimrock

No, the stand alone version is truly stand alone, it doesn't contact anything external and has no way to auto update. Instead you will need to download the new version from the same location you did originally.

Re: Legend of Grimrock

It doesn't help that I've forgotten where I am or what I am doing! I've just killed a rat and found stairs going down, so I guess that's the way onwards, dunno if I'm missing something from this level or not though. I can't even recall what level I'm on!

It is different but there are some ...

Most of these portraits (except DM enhanced ones) are crappy crops from various Deviant Art bitmaps.
It was specifically the DM ones I thought you would be interested in. Nice trolling though!

Re: Legend of Grimrock

Wow what a great game! I finally finished last night, so I guess I'll be going back to my DM playthrough soon, on the other hand replaying on hard with new portraits is so tempting!

Incidentally fans have released updated DM portraits and converted them for use with LoG, here's the link ...

Yeah same for me, 17:00 UTC, I finish work at 4:30pm UTC and shall arrive home at approximately 5pm UTC, I'd say this is timed mostly to perfection!

6 and a half hours to go! :D

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

Ah yes, like rust monsters in D&D, many of the monsters seem similar to D&D ones I noticed. (Beholders for example) I don't think any of my weapons have been rusted!

Those damn Gigglers made of with a Vorpal Blade! I lost him for a minute but tracked him down thankfully!

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

Level 8 continued well I found a nice Big sword called Delta, not sure where as initially I thought it was one of the throw away ones the skeletons were using, it's lucky I noticed it was different! I ended up giving it to Jagger to carry, (he stuck with the Vorpal Blade while there were ghosts ...

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

Phew Level 6 was pretty tricky, There was a door with no key near previous stuck spot, which I hadn't managed to open but I eventually found a hole in King Midas’s grave, which accepted a gold coin, this gave me a key, :D I hurried back and got a music box as a reward... Mind you opposite I finally ...

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

I decided to leave all my chests laden with food by the tomb of the firestaff, that way none of my guys are yellow any more. Seemed the sensible thing to do. I went back to Level 6 and finally figured out the Pressure plate with nearby disappearing wall that had stumped me earlier, I got a skeleton ...

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

And I’ve found the way down to level 7 yay! There’s still some stuff I’ve missed on this level, so I think I’ll have another look round, hmm. Still I took a peek into level 7 and found the tomb of the Firestaff! I also used a Key of Ra I’d found earlier. I found the fireball spell! Now I genuinely ...

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

It's the official manual that comes with the game,
If this line is printed in red, then that champion is overloaded and will move more slowly through the dungeon.
I took that to mean yellow was just a warning, would have been nice if the manual was clearer. Ah well. :-)

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

Aha, my guys were yellow encumbrance which according to what I had read did not slow you down at all, seem that was wrong however as once I removed their armour, I tried again and with two slow presses I got straight through!

Thank you, was going crazy here!

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

Wow the puzzle room wasn’t to bad, the “I am all I am none” had me stumped for a little while, I went through my inventory and found a mirror and thought lets try, and it worked! Found a Beholder, I dodged any nasty projectiles it threw and blew it up with a few fireballs. The next one got me when I ...

Well I spent most of this session finishing Level 5, and most of that was spent in a room of teleporters... ARGH!!!! Must have spent like an hour in it before finally getting through... I found a full set of armour behind a set of secret walls, my guys are seriously well armoured now. :)

Good luck with it, hope you manage it, if not maybe you could upload your save and let one of the other guys grab it for you? Would be a shame for your journey to end. :(

Either that or just leave it for now and practice using your keys for the next section, then by the time you return you'll be ...

Quite so, you guys tips have been invaluable, one of you put the fireballs runes in one of the helpful for new starters posts, and once seen it couldn't be unseen! Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

Well the worms put out decent damage, but if the front row takes a lot of damage I then swap the back row in, that being said this means everyone can end up being poisoned which is troublesome! Being able to throw so many fireballs really is good, I'm up to ON level fireballs now with my Artisan ...

Re: DM - Amiga Playthrough.

Hey Guys,

Well one of the WinUAE developers replied and he figured out the issue, seems states don't fully work with the A1200 emulation, so I'm now running a A500 instead, and states are working fine again. I did notice the game ran much slower, (movement delays) so I added an extra 2mb of Fast ...

Iv never EVER played a video game using keyboard.
I play video games on joysticks and joypads. Its been difficult enough playing on a mouse after all these years of console gaming without the dreadful prospect of playing this section of the game on keyboard only.

You know it's pretty good once ...
