Re: Hidden Skills
And a Lo-Fireball also one-shots them, I certainly remember that from back in the day. Works the same on Munchers in CSB.

Re: Hidden Skills
I think Lightning Bolt is supposed to have a physical component to the damage as well as a fiery one, which might be why it's supposed to work better on those guys. I just use doors and melée weapons when I have to fight them though, so can't say how well any particular spell might work. Also I ...

Re: What do you like/dislike about DM2 compared to original DM?
Did you ever try Stonekeep? That one came out in like '94 or '95, another grid-based dungeon-crawler (but you slide smoothly between tiles rather than instantly "teleporting" forward as in DM). It makes use of the FMV stuff that was popular at the time, so characters you meet in the dungeon are like ...

Re: What do you like/dislike about DM2 compared to original DM?
I agree it's not as fun as DM/CSB. I found it shorter than those and difficulty-wise set roughly between the two, I'd say. Some of the traps and stuff are very annoying/frustrating, yes, and once you get to a certain point in the castle you start getting the endless Attack Minions spawning at you ...

Re: Stuck need help or Im restarting.
Yeah, the key thing is weird, never had that happen to me. I know I end up with a whole load of spare Iron keys and a few Gold ones, and a miscellany of others which I may or may not end up using :D. The lockpicks are useful but only work on certain locks I think, and can also get you killed at a ...

Re: Going to start this game soon have a few questions
Yeah, what Christophe said - you don't lose keys when spending them, as they remain sticking out of the lock so you can retrieve one if you want to prevent a door from being able to be opened/closed (and actually this is quite useful). There are a bunch of puzzles, some using new mechanics and ...

Re: Stuck need help or Im restarting.
I'm pretty sure there are multiple ways to get past a bunch of the obstacles in this game. You definitely don't need Boots of Speed - I don't think I've ever really used any, if I even find them. Back in the day, if I ever found any they didn't seem to do anything, but even now knowing that everyone ...

You don't need Boots of Speed. I've never had more than one pair, if that, in either game in any of the numerous times I've played. If you need to move fast, just make sure everyone is in the grey (ie, not carrying too much stuff) and isn't low on stamina.

Re: Stuck need help or Im restarting.
I don't remember needing Winged or Onyx keys in particular (I can't even remember what the Winged Key is used for in this one :D)...the bit with the Flying Snakes and pits is around where you get the Ruby Key if I remember rightly - there's a bit with the word "Bridge" on the wall, where you walk ...

Oh, nice, you're really far then :D.
The banging-into-walls thing is absolutely something I did when I played it "back in the day" - I can remember walking along corridors one square at a time, pausing after each step to attempt to sidestep both ways to see if the walls were real :D.

I played it on the Atari back in the day, and on a PC now (via CSBWin, a fan-made port of the Atari version), so no, just mouse and keyboard for me

You're playing DM with a joystick? Ouch, no wonder you're having difficulty
.
At least you know there are alternate versions out there if you want to play it with, you know, decent controls

Re: how to survive without food or water in the worms level
I was kind of assuming the poster is a new player so wouldn't know about rats and stuff, and didn't want to spoil stuff that might be on upcoming levels. If they're stuck on Level Four, it's gonna be a while before they get to Level Nine, after all :D. I think Level Four probably is the first of the ...

Woo, gratz on completing DM for the first time after so long :D.
Good luck with CSB - don't feel bad if you spend most of your time wandering around completly lost, clueless, and repeatedly dying to monsters/traps/multi-pit drops. That's bascially how we all started out and you can always just ask ...

Re: how to survive without food or water in the worms level
I've never used a SNES so I don't actually know what the controls are like. Back in the day I played on Atari and used the mouse for everything - later when I searched for and discovered a downloadable version of the game online (used RTC at first, then CSBWin as it's a direct copy of the Atari ...

Re: how to survive without food or water in the worms level
Screamers are the weakest monsters in the game, and you'll have already got past a whole bunch of them (and ther stuff, including Mummies and Blue Trolls) to get to Level Four, so you clearly can deal with them :D. The Purple Worms are tough, but as Prince of Elves says you can manoeuvre around them ...

Re: how to survive without food or water in the worms level
Well, in the Worm level (Level Four), the worms ARE food, albeit the crappiest food in the game. Hopefully you also have a bunch of Screamer slices from previous levels (and if you can get to the end of this one, the Screamer Room is nearby, where they respawn infinitely). I think there's enough ...

Could be - if you Reincarnate characters (as opposed to Resurrect), you can rename them. Maybe you saw a screenshot of someone's gameplay where they'd renamed their characters that way.

Yes, you absolutely used to be able to sell axes - I'd use ranged attacks to kill a shitload of axe giants from the entrance to their area, then use the Porter Minion map to get said minion to pick up all the axes and take them to the shop to sell (and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one) :D.
So ...

Oh yeah, Conflux is one of the big ones - that was made by Zyx (with some help here and there from a few others - I know I wrote all the hints for the int Oracle, at least). Yeah, I can't remember the guy's username now but the posts are all still around here somewhere, in whichever area of the forum they were made (Creative Endeavours, possibly). A bunch of us did then get the game when it came out - I didn't actually finish it or play the second one, though.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that Dungeon Master was possibly the first of its kind to have that kind of proper first-person immersive thing going on, rather than running through a text-based interface with just static pictures to show what was going on. So that does indeed basically make it the ancestor of ...
