You don't need Boots of Speed. I've never had more than one pair, if that, in either game in any of the numerous times I've played. If you need to move fast, just make sure everyone is in the grey (ie, not carrying too much stuff) and isn't low on stamina.

I played it on the Atari back in the day, and on a PC now (via CSBWin, a fan-made port of the Atari version), so no, just mouse and keyboard for me .

You're playing DM with a joystick? Ouch, no wonder you're having difficulty .
