Re: EQ jester in norrath friend
I know Pantheon never really got anywhere (that was the one Brad McQuaid was working on when he died, right?). I've not heard of Monsters and Memories. EQ-wise I am somewhat losing hope over EQClassic ever getting done and have been considering just trying out P99 instead, as my dad has been playing ...

Re: One more for the road...
Yeah, also Elven Boots (boost Strength). Might be a few other such items, can't remember. And of course various amulets and stuff like the Pendant Feral, not that that would matter in relation to wearing a full actual armour set or not.

Re: UK Online Safety Act Compliance
Ah yes of course, clearly these rules are very well-thought-out and definitely legit on this fine and very specific day - I'm sure DSB will be all the better for the changes

Re: One more for the road...
I don't know if I ever got any full armour sets - they tend to be very heavy and don't exactly make you super-tanky or anything. I'd rather wear lighter stuff so I can nip around more quickly and just avoid being hit in the first place. Also individual items like the Dex Helm or Flaimbain are ...

Re: One more for the road...
Yeah I think you have to reopen it every time, but fortunately it's not super difficult to get a skelly in there. I think some spells go through portcullises, don't they? Poison Cloud does, I think. Fireball definitely doesn't :D.
In theory you should only need to go through there once, though, to ...

Re: One more for the road...
The entrance to Part Two of Neta is the bit where you have to get a Skelly stuck behind a portcullis by teleporting it - they spawn quite quickly in the area but are super weak so even if you end up with loads of them they generally go down in one hit so there's no real danger of being overrun.

Re: One more for the road...
Ohhh okay yeah the bit with the Dragons behind the doors is Dragon Den, which is in Part Two of Ku (through the DDD), yeah. From the DDD you need to go through the "Ku" door, down the long "Dead End" corridor, and it's next thing you come to after that.

Re: One more for the road...
The Death Knights are in Ku, if you're talking about the ones guarding Executioner (it's near the "No Fireballs" area if that helps)> The Dragon Maze is in Ros, however.

Re: One more for the road...
I don't know. It's only through watching the recent play through from Gears of Games on YouTube (and seeing the comments there) that I even knew that having certain things in your inventory could have any effect on monster spawns and stuff

Re: One more for the road...
I think all those keys are "optional" ones - in my previous post I listed the ones you need for the four Ways, behind spoiler tags which the forum for some reason now forces onto a huge ugly white stripe that takes up an entire line rather than a nice little black block that just covers the text ...

Re: One more for the road...
So, "Part One" of each of the Ways starts at the Junction of the Ways and meets up at the DDD. From the DDD, which is like a larger, more convoluted puzzle of a junction, there are four doors, each one leading into "Part Two" of its respective Way and needing a key to unlock it, obtained in "Part ...

Dragon's Den is in "Part Two" of Ku*, yes. You can't miss it as you need to go through it to progress.

Re: One more for the road...
Sounds like things are going pretty well. Neither the Sapphire nor the Topaz Keys are essential for progression, but the Ruby is. Plenty of random stuff all over the place for you to poke around in and get some possibly-helpful loot

Re: Does anyone use lightning bolts?
Yeah same, I was definitely nowhere near being a teenager when I first played (born in '84), and of course no Internet at all at that point. We had the Atari up till around late '94/early'95 I think, when we got our first PC (went on the Internet for the first time in late '96, having started ...

Re: Dungeon Master Encyclopaedia feedback
I don't go on there much, but I don't recall seeing that issue. Just had a look on there now and it was fine, though admittedly I did only go to the homepage (going away for Christmas shortly so don't have much time to poke around extensively).

Re: Does anyone use lightning bolts?
Oh yeah, that's how I play now , but back then (if keyboard was possible on Atari) I don't think I ever thought of it. I would've been five when CSB first came out (and three for DM, which I think came out actually on my birthday?), so rather more inexperienced with this sort of thing at the time ...

Re: Does anyone use lightning bolts?
I've only done it since using CSBWin - back in the day we used the mouse for everything so would've been a bit slower to do stuff. Since playing on CSBWin (and RTC before that) I use the keyboard to move, so it's much faster. Which means lobbing a Fireball at something and immediately charging ...

Re: Does anyone use lightning bolts?
Haha yeah I've run into the back of one of my own Fireballs on more than one occasion :D.
Also I dunno if that was a typo, but the little spellcasting robed dudes are "Vexirks", not "Vexeriks" :D. I've always assumed their name is just the words "vex" and "irk" put together (two words that mean "to ...

Re: Does anyone use lightning bolts?
As far as I can tell, spells just explode over the whole square and therefore hit everyone in it (as evidenced when you get hit in the face with a Fireball or something).

Re: One more for the road...
Presumably when you say "Hardcleave", you mean "Executioner" - no Hardcleave in CSB ;).
CSB came out in '89 (DM in '87). And yeah, no Internet back then :D. When me and my dad played the games back in the day (when I was like, six or so), we had a guide for DM but nothing for CSB. Well, presumably ...

Re: This Game Needs a Remake Badly
There have already been plenty of more "modern" games like DM - Legend of Grimrock was explicitly a homage to it, for example, even if it wasn't exactly identical in terms of mechanics and stuff. You can think of later first-person party-based Fantasy games (like Stonekeep or the Might and Magic ...

Re: Does anyone use lightning bolts?
I don't think I ever thought anything was immune to anything (except non-materials being untouchable except by certain attacks, of course), but based on how slowly some stuff died to certain effects I figured they were at least highly resistant. Makes sense, though - if you're entirely made out of ...

Re: Does anyone use lightning bolts?
Yeah I would consider it more fiddly to click, more expensive to cast, and not really worth it compared to good old lazy Fireball :D. If Fireball doesn't really work on something (not counting non-material creatures, of course) then I'll just hack it to death physically with some help from any ...

Re: Best ways/places to gain experience at various stages?
I just step-dance the Dragon to death. It's fun, and there's no risk of being unexpectedly attacked by something else because there's nothing else down there to attack you :D. I never use any of the freeze items at all, that's just junk to me that I don't bother picking up.

Haha yeah I use Fireball all the time as well. It's the only offensive spell I use except Harm Non-Material Being. Vorpal Blades also give Wizzy exp so those count as well.

I've only been on the new version of the Encyclopaedia a couple of times but it did seem more difficult to find anything, as the categories/sections didn't seem quite so obviously-labelled any more, from what I can remember.

Re: New experiences with an old game...DM
Oh, I didn't know Fireballs would heal them - I know they're non-material so I know not to bother using Fireballs on them at all, though, so maybe that's never come up (and I'm not sure it would be obvious they'd been healed anyway - it's not like they have any hitpoint indicators
).
