Seems to have been quiet on the DM front recently - Ian's download link on the DM board to freedrive is out of commision, so you will have to ask him privately share the dungeon folder. The last things I remember being released were a small dungeon called 'Poison', Zyx's re-released 'Mildew' and a s...

DMute is great - just DM is easy to crash!
I assume you are using 1.3 (latest) which is fine. Go to Ian's noticeboard: http://pub17.ezboard.com/biansmessageboard69920 and check out the DMute section - you might see the error that is causing your problems in your editing. Even if not it is a very good forum that has posts now gone from this b...

Re: Saving games
I do think that saved games should be to everyone's tastes. Especially in the old games on the amiga, i was always very tempted to restart the section from an old disk if someone died, or i was trapped in a tough situation, but i usually carried on anyway on a with the game on a new disk and never l...

Re: Saving games
God i remember that! It was freaky, especially when settling for a few seconds to consult a map, and here the drive going - jumping back with hands on mouse and keyboardto see if anything was about to happen (playing DM in the semi-dark with sound was always fun). And i like the phylosophy of the di...

Re: Skills?
i do like the idea of keeping the DM controls as basic and simple as possible, but it would be nice to have the skills.... How about a sub-menu in the character hand? there is that blank space between the characters name and 'pass' option ....have a 'skills' tab there...and clicking on this brings d...

Re: Sleeping?
Mentioning EOTB II, two more anti-sleep features were that nasty in a good way were that a party could not rest if monsters were near and also some intelligent creatures could open doors. I like the nightmares idea more for DM as it less interfers with gameplay, but enough to be interesting (losing ...

Re: Saving games
What an odd blind spot...i've never thought of this either but it should have been one of the first suggestions. Every other game has multiple slots, it's strange that DM never did that, with a .dat file only 40 odd Kb long

That's what I meant, RTC has too powerful VI potions. Usually even a decent starting priest struggles to heal the characters.

Re: Monster AI - suggestions
I like this idea alot, although i think that incorporating a larger range for fluctuations would be cool - combining it with a modifier for depth (or height!) of the dungeon, whgich also affects monsters. So a low level dragon can still be intelligent relative to most monsters, but not quite as shar...

Even the lowest level VI potion cast by a novice cures all damage inflicted on a character (at least 35 health)

Re: Belated thanks to George!
I agree, especially as George did mention that no-one had sent anything. It is too easy to forget to register a fully working copy...by the time money comes around (I was finishing thesis at uni at the time...guess my bank balance!)...I think it slips everone's mind. The best idea might be to make t...

Re: Background music/sound effects
If something in the dungeon can trigger a sound file being activated, how about also having the ability to trigger other files. Dungeon builders can have graphics or animations come up at key places. Picking up an important object, opening a main door, etc - or new endings for each dungeon, which ha...

VI altar?
Noticed when a character was ressurected: the carrying capacity was at 0kg, so the character was always in the red. This wore off after half a minute, then returned later in the game. Retrying this, the character was fine, however another party member started to this a few seconds a time at random i...

Re: Frightened screamers
This is a good idea..I wondered if it was something like this. Rather than toning it down you could make it level dependant...the deeper the level, the more intelligent likely traits like this are to occur. Combine it with the usual moral checks (I only noticed very recently that monsters actually c...

Re: Overburdened champions
Ok, I have noticed that characters carrying weight goes down normally, I had just adssumed the temporary boost was some cool feature of DM - you must agree it is handy during a fight to be pumped up enough to move faster, incase you need to flee. If it happens with normal movement then that sucks. S...

Re: Wobbling graphic - minor
I always thought that bigger weapons, etc flew further as they were more aerodynamic and less bulky, even having the same weight. But if a torch can fly further than an apple, then yep - sounds more buggy : )

Wobbling graphic - minor
Thrown objects 'sin wave' as they move across the screen, and objects like the club don't rotate properly on their axis when thrown. I don't think weapons like swords and axes travel far enough when thrown by even strong characters.

Frightened screamers
Screamers now run away, which never happened with DM (they got bored, but never ran...), and if this is a new idea it happens too soon - evrey screamer ran after one blow.
Also , I countn't seem to hit them with weapons if they in the back row of the tile.

Re: Overburdened champions
I agree, I was playing RTCv00.3 with my favourite party and noticed this instantly. The movement is too slow, and worst of all is the turning speed - I don't recall turning being so slow even on badly burdenend characters. Also, I can't say I have noticed (I will check) but do the champions get an '...

How specific can we get here with damage? I just remember the comment on the Un-offical DM board where the 'small scorpion' was supposed to be a ruster, that could destroy weapons in the hand. Could options be added for damage like this? For examle, hot coals could destroy any footwear then damage t...

Re: Should it be fixed is the question
The DM source code is unknown, and George et all haven't fully worked out the .dat files (or the saved..i get confused). So DMute still has blank spots, and there are alots lots of functions of the hex codes unknown even when all lines are accounted. For example, text changing has only been widely a...

I agree, ninja does sem to be the 'back-up' class Want more health, do a little more damage and dodge better - go ninja! I use it as a way for magicians in the back that can't handle combat to get better health in a safe long-distance way. I seem to rememebr someone saying dexterity goes up slowly.....

RTC rocks
RTC has shaped up very nicely, getting closer to feeling exactly like DM. I now love the lighting effect, it is subtle but great. Is it the intention to have RTC split in two, with a 'proper' and 'improved' DM. Things like the lighting and independant creatures groups, while not feeling like DM, are...

Experience vs abilities.
Noticeable bugs (rather than niggles) are that I could cast an = level fireball with an apprentice that wouldn't be possible normally, and also Stamm (journeyman) seems to have lost the ability to chop with an axe (even though previous version allowed this). Also couldn't swing a choppable door open...

With a full party of Zed, Stamm, Boris and Wuuf, I was kicked out tof the game V0.002 totally (it stopped and returned to windows) once in the food room of level 1 when I was trying to swap party members, and once beside the first mummy when I clicked to try out a club opion. Both times it was on ac...

Re: Attacking monsters go mad.
Monsters don't seem to centre much, as they do in DM. It's very interesting and cool to have the combining/splitting teams (like EOTB2), but not the DM feel.
I think the smoke effect is too large and slow, which is why it's noticeable if monsters walk into it.

Oh, all of DM2's 'block the whole screen to do things' approach annoyed me too, i wouldn't have anything intrusive.. Odd...I remembered there was a limit on lowering stats...I tried to kill a character by regeneration but I'm sure the effect stopped before 25 health...maybe that was just the early versions like the Amiga, etc.
