Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Lol, wow, talk about a tank! Haynuus has good hp anyway, effectively has 9 more hp that anyone else, and now gets to tank it up! Watch out for the armour check penalties, I described them elsewhere in one of the previous posts to do with the effects of the armour.
I know money is busy right now - but hopefully it will all be worth it! At worst, I will assume that he and Westian examine things together and grant the combined search a +2. Though hopefully he can post at least, cause if there's one thing I love it's the IC posts.LIke, for example, orcs and fuzzles discussing religeon and expanding the world that way!

Ok, just waiting for money's post then I'll update with some more results.
Edit: The 'hopefully it will be worth it' in the previous post was hoping his business would pay off at work, not his post being worth it btw!
Edit 2: goddammit money, you posted as I posted! Now I have to update
How am I gunna eat chips and watch house and blame you now?

lol - not the most productive day in my 10 years of employment - but hey... I've had 10mins to post an update so not all bad... I have to admit I didn't read the OOC chat in depth though - so apologies if my post is out of step... looking forward to finding something in that last sconce in the room

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Lol, in a couple of posts time, there's going to be a pay off to what you've been doing.
In the meantime, I hope you don't mind me taking the liberty of nudging your character to reveal something that he's been just unlucky enough not to spot. I'm sure it will be worth it
But first chips and house!
And don't worry, your post is perfectly in step with the rest.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Update done! Sorry for the length of it, and the lateness. Time seemed to get away from me as I wandered around distracted.
Items you have found (recap). Tomb items are in iffy condition unless mentioned otherwise:
- Falchion (good-ish condition) and circlet from mummy.
- Breastplate front
- small shield
- broken sword, completely smashed axe, snapped and blunt spear-head (useless as weapons, broken sword has different crest)
- two short swords (one in good-ish condition) - count as sword for smaller guys. 1d4/1d6 damage, also does maximum damage on a 19 aswell (as long as you hit with it).
- dagger (as knives previously described, good condition)
- plain signet ring
- large shield +2AC -2ACP, can't be used by small guys
- three broken clubs and one burnt to crisp club (broken clubs by rubble, burnt club was in the burning rags)
- fifteen ok clubs (one had Westian's burning rag around it, still ok)
- burnt out 'magic' torch.
If anyone wants to grab some chunks of tomb rubble, then you'd be weird, but you could grab the equivalent of a rock. It would do unarmed damage if used in melee, or if thrown, but does lethal damage. I'll work out how many you could take and not be weighted down once you distribute the loot.
If Ameena keeps searching the hall, leading to Haynuus checking the rubble, I imagine there will be one more of these general exploring posts tomorrow, leading to the hall being thoroughly checked. Then you have no recourse, the party will ahve to - as a group - decide on their next move onwards!
Of course, if Ameena concentrates on the door, I imagine that would kick off the party into gathering around and figuring the locked door out right away.
Anyway, that's where we're at people! One way or the other, by the end of the week I believe you will be checking out something new. Hopefully nothing dangerous :*whistles*

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Oh, OB, I forgot to point out that until Westian has access to a fighter level, he isn't proficient with the falchion. That doesn't means he can't wield it, it just means you take a -4 penalty when attackimg. RP wise, feel free to have Westian carry it. Especially if you have your eye on fighter levels later, it would be a good RP precursor I'd honour
Ian - aswell as the things you've added to your character sheet, gaining a 3rd fighter level means you have +1 to melee and ranged attack, you gain one skill point to place where you want (I assume intimidate again), and your reflexes and will saves gain +1 aswell.

Oh, and last post, even if everyone is free this weekend I think we'll call a halt until Monday. It will let anyone who wants to recap on what's been said and done and catch a breath that way, Given your characters have stood around and just looked at stuff, it's amazing how much text and so on there is to catch up on and recheck!
Plus, it gives me the chance to get back to some background world stuff

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Woo, you made three more posts here in the time it took for me to read the IC thread. Right, there were a few little things I wanted to clarify/mention just on what Ameena's doing atm.
First, you mentioned her exploring the keyhole - I'm not too sure she'd be able to reach that high. Bear in mind she's probably only a little over knee-height on Haynuus, possibly near waist-height on Westian, and maybe half a head shorter than Falkor. Of course, I don't know for sure how tall everyone is but I did find a Google image comparing heights of the various DnD races so sort of made my own workings-out from there. So Ameena might not be able to reach her nose high enough for a good sniff at a keyhole unless it's comparatively very low down on the wall.
What else...oh yeah, anything she's found she'll have been putting in a little pile somewhere nearby, so anyone else can go through the stuff if they want. The only thing she's found in this room that she won't have stashed like that will be that random button she found on the floor when they first arrived, but distraction by scary undead thingy will probably have made her forget that for now.
She will certainly be interested in, and probably excited by, the scents around the door, but she will just store the information for referencing once she's finished exploring - yes it's probably a significant discovery, she knows, but if she calls off her thorough room-search and focuses on that, she might miss something even more significant along the other wall, or something. She hasn't got to that other set of doors yet, for example, and she might find similar scents there. From the description you gave Westian, so far my theory is that it's a particular type of bone-zapping altar, but it could be plenty of other things besides, I'm sure
.
Aaaaanyway, what else...well, I'll see if Haynuus (or indeed anyone else) has anything more to say to continue their conversation, and IC post then, since there's not much I can add to her actions as they are at the moment.
Edit - Whups, knew I'd forget something - regarding your comment about adding to the world background, if you want any info on the murafu to add, just let me know. I have a few private ideas bouncing around for a story I'll probably never write about them too

Poeple, can I suggest you always read Ameena's OOC musings. So far she's predicted sneak attack not working on mummy's, and...ok, I can't remember the other ones she called corretcly, and I won't spoil the one thing I do remember her saying a few pags ago a while back I smiled at but forgot to comment on. Though I'm really disappointed you think I would be so lame as to include a VI alter right beside a really dangerous potentially fatal to everyone fight. That would imply I liked you guys and didn't want to kill you all without giving you a chance and had planned fair fights, even if they seem unfair at the time.
In other news, the floor tiles fall away to reveal acid pits 200 feet down. The tiles then slot back into place sealing you in.
About Ameena's height, you are right, I think of Ameena as slightly smaller than Falkor, and Falkor had to jump to hit the palm lock thingie in the room above. I meant that Ameena would check the area around and below the lock, not reach the lock itself. Need to check my writing there and make sure I didn't type it wrong.
Anyway, if Ameena is carrying on, that's cool, that means tomorrow's update can be the last room round up and then you lot can push forward after that to a new room - whichever way you go.
And yeah, murafu background would be cool. I need to create a wiki area on the actual wiki, or something like that, depending on how this all goes. Given you had the idea of murafu having tribes everywhere, I think the first task would be to have the world make up loose first, so you can shape it by suggesting areas they would be. It might inform your ideas if you realise there are types of murafu due to terrain or neighbours.
We'll see!

Ohhh, could I add as my skill the following?
Knowledge (dungeoneering): +1 (1)
For the NEXT level, if he gets there, it would be:
Survival: +1
(thoroughly poking around check... (1d20=5))

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Hmmm... Edit this stuff peeps!
- Falchion (good-ish condition) Westian?and circlet Falkor? Ameena? from mummy.
- Breastplate front Haynuus
- small shield Westian? Falkor?
- broken sword, completely smashed axe, snapped and blunt spear-head (useless as weapons, broken sword has different crest)
- two short swords (one in good-ish condition) - count as sword for smaller guys. 1d4/1d6 damage, also does maximum damage on a 19 aswell (as long as you hit with it). Falkor, Ameena
- dagger (as knives previously described, good condition) ???
- plain signet ring ??? Personally I love giving Falkor? these unquantifiable things.
- large shield +2AC -2ACP, can't be used by small guys Haynuus
- three broken clubs and one burnt to crisp club (broken clubs by rubble, burnt club was in the burning rags)
- fifteen ok clubs (one had Westian's burning rag around it, still ok) Haynuus Have one as a spare weapon anyway
- burnt out 'magic' torch. Falkor?
If Westian can't use the Falchion, then he could give it to Haynuus, and Haynuus give him the large shield, obviously.
Not sure what to do with the small shield as the Falchion is 2Handed.
Who wants the dagger? Give the signet ring to Falkor, says I

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
You guys who aren't proficient in armour, remember you take the shield penalty to all strength and dexterity checks when you are using it - that including attack rolls.
Ian, I'm afraid knowledge is not a class skill for you except for knowledge (warfare), so your one point would buy you 0.5 ranks. Because the skill system seems to be a little bit punishing, even with the combined skills, I'll say that your self-suifficiency feat puts either heal or survival on the table as class skill for you.
Right, time for that work thingie!

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Details on every aspect of the Murafu would probably take a very long time to type out, and also bear in mind that most of it is probably not immediately relevant to the RPG. If there was any particular info you wanted, I can provide that as a specific answer to a specific question, but if you were to let me attempt to write up everything I can think of about the Murafu, I'd probably still be typing several hours later
. You're sort of right about there being different types of murafu, since not all of them travel so those who stay in one place might find their coat colours changing to fit more with their surroundings or something. But because most of them do travel, they breed all over the place - a murafu from a temperate forest area might mate with one who lives in a much colder, snowy area, so his coat colour would probably be reproduced to some extent in his young. It's not like, say, humans, where most of them grow up in one area and stay there, and only a few of them travel. Murafu live in a great variety of locations, and can travel a long way in their lifetimes. Not all of them decide to actually settle in one place. In-breeding is one thing they're most certainly not in danger of
.
Anyway, look, see, that was just in response to one comment from you - consider what might happen if you actually asked me to write out details
. Maybe I should think up a load of subheadings for various aspects of their life/culture etc, and write up each of them. But then what would the subheadings be - I'd keep thinking of new ones, lol.

I try to inject the occasional background story into the main thread. Not about to apologise for Orcish behaviour though!
Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
When I put my map up, you will see the plains beside mountains with the citadel and everything!
Because of where I put it, it makes an interesting dynamic as to who your human outcasts may have been - I might PM you over the weekend on that to see if it would tie up ok.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Oh, forgot to say Ian, the moving of rubble was going to be treated as take 20 for being thorough, so you get an automatic 23. However, you also automatically get any results of low rolls rolled in to the high rolls.
Not that there would be any penalties playing around in rubble.
*shakes head*

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Well, if I cannot use the falchion without serious penalties then I will go for a club and one of the shields (large or small). So Haynuus can either take the falchion two-handed or use a shield/club combo too. If he uses the falchion that leaves a free small shield...if no one else is proficient I doubt it will be of use.
Happy with the distribution...so basically all Westian will take is 3 clubs (two for throwing) and one of the shields. Willing to carry anything else that we decide to take.

Ahhhhhlllrighty.
Westian for the Large Shield and unless anyone else wants it, Haynuus will carry the small shield and a club as a juuuuust-in-case me falchion breaks situation.
Come on people there's lots of soft things available too! I want to watch someone put their head down a circlet and their thumb in a ring!
Maybe Falkor could somehow empower the torch again, hmmm?

@beowuff, when I examined the weapons did you check for the ring and circlet too? If so then I was not able to spot anything strange about them?
@everyone else, does anyone have a longing for a ring or tiara? If no one can tell what they are then I agree that two people should just try them on and see if anyone collapses or gains super powers or something.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Hi guys,
Coming down with nasty flu. and we're busy at work so need to get my strength back for a friday push tomorrow, So I'm heading to bed in a few moments.
No official update unless I wake up later on, I'll resolve the mentioned actions here and do an encompassing post if no-one has RP'd their own actions in the IC thread.
Ameena wasn't going to post, so I can update her ok.
Just awaiting Money's post. As Ian pointed out, he could try to use his new powers on the torch. Or he could just try his new powers on the lot of you
So won't reference Falkor's actions below.
Oh, and no rules up yet, brain not there and I need to figure out the duration of FUL. I think I'm going the rest of my timings / strength for other spells. Obviously, a weird conversion, and the grades rely on knowing how far we will go levelling up before tailing off. So if you think something is to weak/strong, say,. and vice versa I might ask if anyone minds me tweaking the spells later in line with the power of the group or lack thereof
@OB: The circlet and signet ring (which you assume it is) are both plain. Now Westian is used to the vine motif at the bottom of the crest, he thinks both the ring and circlet have that design on the main band. The circlet will fit Haynuus or Westian (or the smaller guys if they wear a helm). The ring is quite large. Westian could wear it on his thumb, perhaps, it seems to be a better fit to Haynuus.
If anyone wears the items, then a powerful sense of boredom will eventually set in, as nothing obvious will happen *whistles*. Note on your character sheet if you are carrying the item or wearing the items.
@Ian: Haynuus begins to clear the rubble thoroughly. As he carries on, loose items start to fall,. Luckily the gods of dice are with you, so he only take 1hp damahe. A reflexes save won't reduce this any more.
Haynuus will realise that some strong things (you guess the Trolins) really did a number on the fragile walls. Apparently the walls and ceiling have collapsed along a decent length. from Haynuus's mine time, he realises to properly excavate this would take many goblins, a whip, and most importantly a large amount of solid timbers and skilled orcs to prop up the walls and ceiling to allow further excavation. Doing it on your own without that...well, I'm sure Haynuus has seen cave ins during excavations or on poorly strengthened tunnels.
All Haynuus will find for his time will be the occasional buried broken club. Apparently the Trolins smashed until they coulnd't any more. Unless they literally couldn't because of going 'poof'. Or unless their fellows collapsed the tunnel on them as they went along and made them go 'poof'
@Ameena: Carrying on aroudn the wall reveals no more items, although you find the doubled up Carrying on aroudn the wall reveals no more items, although you find the doubled up set of rags on C11. Apparently two creatures died together on that spot.
As you are going back down the hall, the odd sensation of a sing song or poetry reading voice comes back again. It's not getting louder in the usual sense, you still can't get a direction nor smell anything, you just think you can hear it in your head again as you get close to the doors.
As you carry on along the sniffing the floor it smells subtly different to the other side. It appears as if people - in the past, their trails are as old as you've previous smelled upstairs - go from the stairs to the openable door towards the locked door on this side, avoiding the tomb and the sarcophigi on the other side. It isn't as if they are avoiding all the tombs, the scents don't seem to give a wide berth to the tombs on this side of the hall.
You carry on down to the rubble, Haynuus having been bumped on the head a while ago. Between the rubble and the stairs you start to realise that faint metal smell from upstairs seemed to trail from the stairs to the rubble, and probably beyond. Whoever the metal-bearing creatures were, they did not stop in the hall at all.
Coming back up the hall to the locked door via the central tomb reveals no other scents. As pointed out earlier, the trails from a while ago (say a month) don't come this way.
On interesting thing - you would be confident to say that there is something familiar about the scent of the trails going to the unlocked door and the trails goign to the wall. It's not the same familiar scent as the strong new one at the locked door. It reminds you of the scents on Falkor's new cloak.
Ok, that will be that then. Sorry for no official post, it's bad enough trying ot get the dry narrative straight in my head without trying to make it sounds storylike. Ok, not that it works that much for searches anyway!
Apologies for mixing up the player/character pronouns above. Still not sure where everyone's at (if you are happy with 'you do X' or if you would prefer 'your character does X'
Right, I need fluids, a bed, and to not give into the temptation to lie vertically but still prat around on the web.
Later!

Later!

Stationary target out of combat is fine
As i said, we'll stop over the weekend to give you and anyone else who needs it breathing room
Ok, everyone can go ahead and post a reaction to money and a next set of actions (including you money), and i'll update tomorrow night. Shivering less, headache splitting, neurophene downed, time to sleep
Money's burning rags can provide light once falkor's torch fades at the end of ameena's explorations btw! 20 fot radius good light, 20 foot further bad light

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
As usual, I checked the IC thread first and posted there, and as usual, did so without having read this post here. But I can't be arsed to edit it right now. Yes, I'm home early - not enough people turned up for DH tonight so we just sort of sat around and chatted for a bit and then I left before it got too late. Got home at about 9pm. Anyway...okay so nothing new found out other than the weird path-scents across the room from stuff. I'll sort that eventually.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Hope you are feeling better now. Just posted IC, I took the liberty of recognising the rune FUL from Falkor. I thought it would save you having to resolve it yourself when you are feeling ill.
Always thinking how to make life easier for my DM...

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Gah, I think I started posting at work but never got to finish. Yeah, I think Falkor even said an encompassing mention of talking about runes - or you did. So that will work.
And sneaking in a DM line in response to Ameena's actions made me laugh, so yeah, I'll let you off.
I'm feeling better-ish, so should be ok for a later evening update post before the weekend.
Just need money's actions I think, it sounds like people would kinda like to go through the unlocked door, with Haynuus offering to bodyguard earlier!

having real problems, for some reason i can't login - well... it lets me login, then after a few seconds refreshes with me logged out... very annoying, had to use another PC (note - both are running win v.7 and tried to delete browser cookies etc. and run without addins no joy:() I'll post IC next
Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Ouch, not heard that one before
Glad you managed to post eventually! Though you are a spoilsport removing the cloak, how's a DM supposed to be evil *sigh*
Just looked back over the posts, and your characters have sort of stalled, I thought there was more of a drive to go through the unlocked door. Although I still think that since Westian had indicated what he knows, Ameena being the rogue hasn't offered her knowledge nor lock-picking abilties, it seemed the logical railroad. did I say railroad, I meant option. As Westian said, the RA door might not be locked, no one has tried, and never let a closed door stop you....
Still, I'm going to use a little bit of DM fiat and move the party through the unlocked door. Yell if this is not what you want to happen! It's not a cliffhanger, no mummies, so hopefully you can explore here and get the things you need to progress pretty quickly.
