To me, SNOW is a four-letter word.
So is sleet, for the truly dyslexic.

The snow that came in October and caused all the damage has melted in a few days and now it's sunny and hot - between 10 and 15C. That's a ridiculous winter!

Watch out for Bavaria today - they will have 'Föhn' - up to 20°C!

For those who don't know:
In South Germany, close to the mountains, they have a special climatic situation: a warm wind in the cold seasons that causes relative high temperatures. That has nothing todo with global warming - however, it surprises each time. And it won't take long, in a week they can have a lot of snow.

We had long time cold nights this spring. Then, after summer, the "warm" nights won't end. And now we had only one night now coming close to 0°. In my city (Rhein-Main-area) snow becomes more and more a very rare event.

Indeed, I didn't know. It's very interesting to read in which other locations similar effects happen.
Isn't that unusual as it seems.

These birds!

We have no snow here, it's relatively warm (around 5°C), but the birds still occupy our bird feeder, looking extremely hungry. We kind of don't have the heart to let them down, so we feed them. These little beggars consume more than 2 kg of sunflower seeds per week! :)

*Jan shakes his fist towards the bird feeder (from a safe distance)*

*the feasting birds ignore him ostentatiously*

Sigh. :)

Oh, that's fantastic, Paul! :D

What temperature do you have over there? Do you like skiing? (I mean cross-country skiing) Oh, I'd really like to go skiing when I see the picture you sent! :) We have no snow here, it's just raining. :(

I don't ski. I just shovel. And shovel.
And shovel.

It is 30 degrees farenheit. This storm
covers 50 percent of the country. 40 miles
south of here it is rain. You can see that it
is wet snow as it sticks to the porch railing
like that. If it were dry we would have
five-foot drifts.

The folks around here who ski are strange.
They beg for snow. Then, when we get snow,
they have to wait for the machinery to press
it down to the ground so that it is very much
like ice rather than snow. Then they put on
$1000 ski pants and their $1500 skis and stay
on the trail. I get the feeling that
they are a rather pampered bunch.

I had one friend (I think from Germany) with
hand-me-down wood skis who seemed to know
how to use them to actually go from one place
to another when there was deep snow. I always
thought that was the purpose of skis.

LOL - my whole skiing equipment is worth ca 100 USD, everything made in small factories in the Highland where I live. And I don't need trails too - I just ski where I want and I explore the nature and enjoy being alone in the wilderness with only the birds and deer and trees, where everything is white and calm. When I come back from work, I just go to my back-yard and I put my skis on and I can go skiing. :)

I also had wooden skis when I was a kid. And my Dad still uses wooden skis that were made in 1930s for my grandmother when she was a young girl. These are the wide wooden skis that can be used both for cross-country skiing and down-hill skiing. I think his skis belong in a museum. :D

We had our first real snow since I moved to southwest Louisiana (seven years ago), this past week.
I even made a miniature snowman, placing it on the hood of my S-10 Chevrolet pickup.
Everyone acted like a bunch of elementary schoolers.

It snowed about 1/4 of an inch, one day last winter, if you want to count that.

It never seems to snow here till some random time in February or so...though I think we did have snow in December some time around my birthday either last year or the year before.

Snow! Finally.
The first few flakes came in early october, but they melted before even reaching the ground.
Then ridiculous high temperatures throughout november.

It's not much now, but it is settling down. I hope it will be enough to do some innertubing in the vineyards on sunday.
Great fun. 2 or 3 tubes attached to the tow hook of a Chevy (a manly K30, not a baby S-10. ;-)), beer and some torches.

Woooo omg it snowed today :O. I was watching it out the staffroom window while I was eating my lunch at work. Didn't really settle though - there was a bit on the edge of the platform when I got to the station omw home, but that was it. Was kind of drizzly-rain when I got back to Chatham. When I got home, though, my parents told me it's apparently gonna snow a lot on Friday. Apparently ;).

Yeah, it snowed for about an hour lightly then it turned into rain!

Hope it isn't too cold overnight, or else it will all be icy!

Heh, now it's snowing even in Prague, wow! We have about one inch of snow here, and it's still snowing, but it's rather cold (like -2C, I think). I'm going to the Highland today by train - there's definitely going to be much more snow there, I hope the train won't get stuck somewhere.

Snow in Berlin as well. It's not much, but since it's rather cold and will become colder, the streets will probably stay white for a few days.

Omg we've actually got proper snow! I mean, you know, proper for England :P. It's settling and everything - was watching it out of the window during club. There were also about three or four rather freakish occurances of a really bright lightning flash followed near enough immediately by a rumble of thunder - never had that before! And then I couldn't get a taxi so one of the blokes at club gave three of us a lift home, and a drive that normally takes 5-10 minutes took more like 25 minutes. Still, hopefully the...err, I mean...maybe the trains won't be running tomorrow so I'll tragically have to phone in work and tell them I can't get in and then have to have a three-day weekend, omg .
