Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
I'm very surprised that the ST version and CSBWin work differently, as CSBWin is the exact same ST source code. Maybe Warcry was changed from DM to CSB, since CSBWin uses the source code of ST CSB instead of ST DM?
Concerning RTC, I doubt the default behaviour will change for several reasons. It is possible to create your own attack methods, but I'm fairly certain it is not possible to make one action give experience to two classes.

Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
Actions can target cloned relays in RTC, so you can make them do hundreds of different things at the same time, by using the cloned relay to drive other relays...
Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
CSBwin is based on the CSB engine, which was marginally different from the various DM engines. So CSBwin is the original engine! You can use DSA interrupts to alter the experience gained.
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
The difference might simply be that CSBwin is based on version 2.x of the engine, whereas I think the DOS version is 3.x. You can tell because they changed the wallset perspective slightly in between. (And gave us clone authors headaches trying to recreate the look faithfully!)
Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
What, CSB which is newer based on older DM engine? Why? That makes no sense.

Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
DM came first -- FTL engine versions 1 through 2.
CSB came next, FTL engine version 2
Then there were newer versions of CSB which used FTL engine 3+
Newer versions of DM on the PC and Amiga were also upgraded to FTL engine version 3+
CSBWin is based on FTL engine 2
Quite simple really
These pages might help understand it a bit better:

Oh I see. What's the difference between the engines, out of curiosity?

Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
Who knows!? The only source code we know about is for v2 (and that's a disassembled version with no original structure or comments in place). There were probably hundreds or thousands of changes made between versions
We do know some specific changes along the way:
1) A wider screen view and changed perspective in later versions
2) Improved memory manager
3) Multi-language support

Bah at DirectX. I'd rather see stuff done relying on OpenGL for a change, so the people on other platforms will quit getting the shaft.

RE: Experience with the different options on the completed Firestaff.
I looked at the Dungeon Master Ency., but didn't find anything addressing this question.
I know the first option (invoke) gives experience, but am unsure about the 'fuse' and 'fluxcage' options.

Fuse and fluxcage come under wizard levels at the bottom:

I checked it out but didn't notice any real information about how much experience was given for each of the options.beowuuf wrote:Fuse and fluxcage come under wizard levels at the bottom:

I don't remember where I dug up the numbers, but I do know that DSB uses actual DM numbers here, so I'll tell you what's in the DSB code-- Fuse and Fluxcage both give 1 xp (by default, you'll get more with xp multipliers). Pretty paltry, but nobody's training by that point anyway.

Does Invoke give the same amount? (Thanks for the info)Sophia wrote:I don't remember where I dug up the numbers, but I do know that DSB uses actual DM numbers here, so I'll tell you what's in the DSB code-- Fuse and Fluxcage both give 1 xp (by default, you'll get more with xp multipliers). Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
No, Invoke gives a much more respectable 25 xp.
Re: Unsure about experience/levelling and some skills
..only for the main wizard skill not also to one of the hidden skills.
