Re: Evil's Doom
I don't know it, but the I'm happy that I can understand the text - sentences like "Jeden z jeźdźców Apokalipsy (ale gdzie ma konia?!)." or "Kobieta nigdy nie zapomina o kosmetykach
" really made me ROFL. I simply love Polish!

Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!

Re: Evil's Doom
I had the luck to play a couple of Evil Doom's demos.
It could have been the best Amiga game ever for what is my opinion. And surely the best DM clone, sorry people if I say this, maybe capable of even beat the original.
I resume here what I recall from playing the demos:
Hi-Res GFX (640X512) with 256 colors. The 320x256 box at center of the screen contained location pictures or dungeon view, pressing the spacebar you could switch screen mode at 320X256 thus zooming the center box at full screen.
The game was settled in a fantasy setting much like Conan's one (maybe even the same). When the party was on the outside the game was played like a GFX adventure with clickable dialogues and so on (much like "The bard's Tale"), but when inside a dungeon it was like playing DM, just with better GFX.
As I recall, everything was real time like DM (EOB and Black Crypt for example weren't actual real time, in fact doors opened and closed within a system 'tic', while in DM each door frame movement was a different tick, allowing for instance rock monsters to pass beneath a closing door). Magic was rune based and lighting handled more or less like in DM.

if it was so good, it`s a shame it wasn`t ever released! I bet there`s a lot of cheesy stuff, like monsters and decos, that could be ripped for use in our customs.. oh well..

Re: Evil's Doom
Zed, your link leeds to the demo file. I don`t know how to extract the stuff by the program you found. I think the graphics are hidden in the .dat files. I don`t know.
We need to run it in emulator!
We need to ask Greatstone, as he wrote game extractors, maybe he`s more familiar with Amiga type of files: http://greatstone.free.fr/dm/
I guess there`s a lot of stuff to rip!!
I think "full" - which is beta (the game was never fully finished) version (10 disks) is downloadable here: http://www.thegamearchives.com/?val=0_2 ... 17_0_5_3_0
And there`s a discussion board about this game (also with one of its creators):
http://eabmobile.abime.net/showthread.php?t=5389&page=3
EDIT2: this version is 100% correct and bug free:
http://meynaf.free.fr/tmp/edm.lzx
somebody should try it on emulator!

EDIT: I just found, what an author (bonnie_c) said on that discussion board:The Game EVILS DOOM was never finished. The Versions you own are only some beta. The greatest bug in the game, that the final enemy cannot be killed. But there are now a lot of other troubles that make the game quiet unplayeble. For more infos please contact the autor!
So the game is FULLY PLAYABLE and probably can be played on WinUAE! About Evils Doom, it`s one of the best RPGs ever on Amiga! Some says it`s far better than EOB.A note on all (?) the crashes, and all the places in the game which seem impassable - those are not bugs. Those are additional level(s) of copy protection.
If you have an original (8 disks from Olympia team), you should be able to pass the game completely.
(...)
I wish you luck with cracking attempts. But I doubt you will know for sure if all the traps have been removed, and the game is fully playable but just "not-so-easy".
However, I will try to dig up the original (non SE) version from the archives in case this is really spurring the interest.
With that and original manual (i.e. entry codes) your pirate troubles should be over.
SE version was never completed, and differs from original only in in-game animations (most of which were never completed). So your gaming experience will not suffer.
EDIT2: this version is 100% correct and bug free:

I'm downloading the "bug-free" version you posted and I'll try it ASAP on my WinUAE installation I have at home.

Re: Evil's Doom
yeah, it seems it`s the SE version (CD version with extra animations, movies etc) that was never completed; the regular version was! As for the "bugs" - it was sort of a copy protection, so the final boss is killable. I`ll try to tun it in UAE now.

Re: Evil's Doom
I`m not familiar with WinUAE, so I coudn`t run the game. I only managed to run an early preview, so I did some shots:

Game doesn`t look bad, but as I said, it was an early preview, which you can`t do anything, only run, open door, pick items and push buttons.
Generally there are two problems for me, when using WinUAE:
1. I can`t unpack the tested file (.LZX) that I gave link to.. so I had to download unchecked .ADF files, wchich might be copy protected (= bugs). Not any freeware program can unpack .lzx properly under Windows.
2. These .adf disk images needs to be installed on HD. I don`t know how to do that in WinUAE..?
I never used UAE, so if anybody could help me with that stuff..

well, not exactly. I got only early preview working on WinUAE. I don`t have idea, how to run the full game! It`s 10 amiga disks, that needs to be installed on Amiga HD!!!
EDIT: I just found an old thread, where Zoom complains, that this game was never finished. It`s not thrue! On polish forums I read posts of people that actually finished this game!

Re: Evil's Doom
Uhh in order to install it in an HD under WinUae you first need to setup AmigaWorkbench (The Amiga equivalent to Windows). It is on 5 Floppy disks or unique CD-Rom but you have to get it from somebody that owns it.
Other possibility is to find someone that has it in WHDLoad... like the following link I just found:
http://hobring.esero.net/games_amiga/39 ... om_dos.exe that needs HWA package: http://hobring.esero.net/hwa.exe to be installed on your PC.
So... if I understand correctly you first install HWA, then install the Evil's Doom package then you double click on the evil's doom icon on your windows desktop... and it should be it!
To moderators: I do not fully understand the language of the site where I got these links from. If the things I linked are considered Pirated Copies then I'm VERY SORRY and it was NOT MY INTENTION to link to a pirate site. In that case please remove my post/links as you feel more comfortable.

Re: Evil's Doom
Being an AGA game in higher res, I was expecting the dungeon art to be pretty special. But those walls your grabbed Adamo are utterly rubbish! They don't look remotely realistic. The other screenshots are quite good though, so maybe these were just test walls in the demo or something?
Re: Evil's Doom
I grabbed them from the teaser demo.
Gambit, if you want to check out the game, grab Erik`s files - it should work.
I came to the island, but in wchich village there`s an entrance to the dungeon?

Re: Evil's Doom
good. The checked version needs to be decompressed under Workbench and installed on virtual HD.
Thanx for the links, Erik, but it seems version you gave is copy protected one. It is impossible to open the door to the dungeons, because there are no keys. So the game overs before it started.

Re: Evil's Doom
Ok, Adamo... this Friday I'll be at home from work and maybe I'll be able to set-up a working Workbench + your uncracked Evil'sDoom on my WinUae.
About dungeon's GFX: I recall the early demo being quite worse than the latter one, so maybe in the full game the actual GFX will be better.

good luck Erik, but remember to unpack the .lzx file by some Amiga program, not Windows one (as I found in other forum, there might be errors!). By the way, I highly recommend you to read this thread first:

Re: Evil's Doom
Just tried it in Winuae, using the lzx version one linked here;
(tell me if you don't know how to setup this working)
I played a little (one hour), and entered the first dungeon;
The game seems VERY good, very polished, and worths playing (it's like lands of lore)
To quickly enter the dungeon, go the first tavern, and speak to its owner, a new location will show up;
Go to that location, speak to a new guy there, and then you can enter the first dungeon.
The problem with this game is the flickering, too much flicker, i don't know how to stabilize the image;
If anyone can help, thx in advance;

As for the flickering, pushing space twice helps up.

then find and download this file "Worbench v3.1 rev 40.42 (1994)(Commodore)(M10)(Disk 2 of 6)(Workbench)[!].adf"
It's disk 2, not 1 remember
select a configuration with 68020 and AGA
then put that as the df0 in winuae
go to hard disk in winuae and create one "dh0" and as a directory, choose the directory you unziped the game in
start the system
in the workbench, click on df0
then click on evil's doom

hmm.. you can buy special weapon, or one of the characters you meet has it (add him to the party).. I don`t remember..
Anyway, ripping the ED gphx (monsters for example) would be good idea. Any chance to do that?
