DM map making

Post by dayday2008 »

Hello again :D , has anyone ever made any maps of the dungeon?

I have found some old maps I made of levels 4, 5, 6 and 7. I simply made them so as to not miss anything and also because certain parts of the dungeon can be decieving.
I made the maps using sheets of A5 small squared paper (which is very appropriate :) ) and I used mesure the areas of halls and corridoors by traversing about counting the spaces I moved and putting pencil to paper.

If anybody ever made any maps then how did you make them and what was their main purpose?
Also, is there somewhere on the net where I can simply print off some maps? Although I would rather avoid this as I havn't completed DM yet and would like do it with as little help as possible but if I get really stuck I'm sure they will come in useful and I could just pretend I found the pre-made maps among the remains of some unfortunate champion somwhere in the dungeon

Download George Gilbert's RTC and look at the Dungeon Master maps in the editor.

I don't think I ever mapped DM. I did try to map CSB, all those years ago... I agree, it was quite fun. :)

I loved making maps when I played the game back in 87/88 (wow, 20 years ago!). It satisfied my creative nature. In fact, I still have my folder of notes and maps to this day! :-)

It sounds like you have not seen the DM Encyclopaedia yet - it has maps, descriptions of...well everything. Go look if you haven't yet :D

So other people did find it useful making maps, cool :)
I think i'll continue with my map making, once I get back into the dungeon, just for the sake of having my own hand drawn maps (like Nabi's) to go with my lists of spells, champion stats, etc. I dont keep them in a folder like Gambit (posh git :D ) I keep them in a plastic wallet :)

I have had a brief look at a DM encyclopaedia but I was unsure about how to navigate my way around it (the internet is still new-ish to me :o ) maybe I was just being ignorant and diddn't bother looking hard enough, any advice? :)

You should find the menu on the left side of the screen pretty easy to use, I would think. If you want to find out stuff about DM, select it from the left and the resulting screen has all the various categories of stuff which relates to DM. Have a poke around - it won't hurt ;).

Just found the place. EXCITED and how!

I lost my DOS Dungeon Master game.

I had an Atari 520, a 1040, and finally a MEGA ST and the colored monitor. Great graphics.

I've tried to find a usable DM to use again, but alas, the one I found didn't work. :(

I had all the levels mapped (including the irritating transporting room)

I lost that map, so when I was able to play it again (we're talking Dark Ages here),
I couldn't get through the dumb place.
(there are some extra goodies there)

So WHERE can I get a working DM (original) for my Windows-run IBM clone?

hello MasterWuuf and welcome to the forums!

So you want to play the original game from AtariST on Windows PC?

Here`s the solution: CSBwin.

This clone is an exact translation of AtariST DM/CSB games. It has even ST graphics restrictions. Well it has some addons, but until you set them on, they`re disabled. The gameplay and all the game mechanics are exactly like it were on ST.

Download

if you want to play Dungeon Master, or
http://dmweb.free.fr/files/Clone-CSBwin ... ck-100.zip
if you want to play Chaos Strikes Back.

PS. BTW, you can also play this on PPC, the link is somewhere on http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/851 if you`re interested.

Im honoured you found your way here on my thread Masterwuuf. Im proud of you for getting back to your dm roots :-)
And well done to Adamo, you seem to be very good at providing people with LOTS of information :-)
In closing, making maps was useful in the early days with no internet. It helped me to find the delta sword on level 07! By paying close attention to how many steps i took i noticed the hexagon shaped plates on the floor.
However with the internet today its easy to find anything you need, plus, the maps at dmweb.free were far superior to anything i made so three cheers to the dm encyclopedia team!
