Re: Cool stuff you've found on the web
Interesting. I wonder how many repetitions it took to train the elephant to paint that. They are famed for their memory, so it's no surprise that they'd be able to memorize a complex sequence of strokes and execute them in the right order. It's pretty interesting to see, but there's hardly any equivalence between this and what a human artist does, though, except maybe someone doing a paint-by-number.

Yeah, I agree, that's what I was thinking too. It's just training, it's not spontaneous creativity.

Right now the lack of time prevents to answer properly. (And my fingers are itching, I can tell...)
I hope we can chat someday or even have a thread on the forum about that pedestal mankind puts itself on top of for no apparent reason and the general concept of our specism.
For now, I link a video of a guy giving some new (not necessarily right) insights on that famous "Battle At Kruger" video. Make sure you watch it till that Superman bit. It's really funny.

There are very obvious reasons why we are top of the evolutionary chain. And there's a sort-of discussion about that, though it's not for the faint of heart!T0Mi wrote:I hope we can chat someday or even have a thread on the forum about that pedestal mankind puts itself on top of for no apparent reason and the general concept of our specism.

Koko and Micheal (before he died) have made some pretty cool paintings. A small selection can be seen on their website: http://www.koko.org. The pictures are here. Click on the picture for a brief description.

Tomi, that series was great. I especially liked his argument for god vs homosexuality in that same clip you posted. I've had a few friends who would have liked to have that kind of ammo in such religious conversations.
Gambit what do you mean "faint of heart" that one get's my heart pumping.. I love those kinds of debates !!!

Tomi, I've moved your post. This thread is general chit-chat and not the place for big debates. The reason I posted a link to that other topic was so that you could post a response there: http://www.dungeon-master.com/forum/vie ... 26&t=28146
@Cows: read the thread, especially Giradius' bible length diatribes!

Re: Cool stuff you've found on the web
Thank you for your work, Gambit.
We all have tender spots.
I'm feeling a little better now. I've been a real mess the last few weeks...
Most of the time I'm preparing for that 30th of April.
I've lost a good friend a few days ago, because I've beaten him up in a state of frenzy. (yes, because of an animal rights issue)
Don't really know if I would have reacted like this if nerves were not as raw as they are right now.
I will now try to do some work. Proceed.

That's pretty interesting. And it makes me feel good about myself, because if I drink 4 bottles of bottled water a year it's a lot for me.Zyx wrote:http://storyofstuff.org/bottledwater/

The rest of the animations seem to be worth it too. I'm currently watching the main one. (http://www.storyofstuff.org/)

Re: Cool stuff you've found on the web
I watched the story of stuff a couple of years ago, good to see they are still raising awareness with new campaigns. I do buy the odd bottle of water here and there if I'm out and have none with me, but mostly I keep several bottles in the fridge topped up with tap water.

Re: Cool stuff you've found on the web
I don't get why people will happily pay so much for a bottle of stuff they can just get from the tap. I just watched that vid - it was quite interesting.

Yeah, so true. That definitely sums up some of the problems with modern games!

Totally agree. I'm glad that New Super Mario Bros. Wii is just as straightforward and uncomplicated as the very first Mario game.

Re: Cool stuff you've found on the web
well, they always had the instructions in the book, people were more inclined to read them as they often had the copy protection in them so you couldn't just avoid them.. these days they have other methods and the game includes the manual as an interactive part of the game. I can see the humor, but in reality it helps those new to games play..
