It's a little bit cheap, but here are some examples:

So rather than assume fourth wall breaking, you can always assume multiverse wall bleeding :D

I'd suggested you simply ignore Aurek for now because, although the most narratively dissonant option, it's also the easiest for continuing onwards and balancing the game. If you still want Aurek as a character around as it's less weird, then how do you want him handled?

1) PC controlled? If so, if one of you can nominate yourselves you can control Aurek's actions. Obviously LB hasn't given any instructions on how to play him, so it will mostly be mechanical help. I know Ian has a good grasp of tactics, and Aurek is Westian's bodyguard, so either Ian or OB are obviously choices.

2) Me controlled? If so, it's a little bit of a conflict of interested, since he's unkillable unless the party get wiped, and my usual NPC stance (NPCs are inherently not as good as the PCs for some reason) doens't hold as well. If I 'play' him, he'll pretty much be unhelpful and quiet anyway :)

Anyway, let me know!

I'll see if I can sneak in an update now, I've cropped the map but need to alter it a little so probably can't post that until tonioght. Wow, new map!

Woo, not had a new map for a while :). Then again, we didn't leave Soorec's place for ages. I just got a reasonably good Perception check over in the IC thread () - Ameena's just having a sniff/listen a little way down each of the other paths (but not the one with the grak-graks, at least for now - stinky things :P).

Whoah, it would be a lot of responsibility to take control of Aurek. If I got him killed I couldn't break the news to LB! :D Unless Ian feels like taking on the job I would be happier with him sitting in the background under your control. Maybe sacrificing some abilities, but at the same time being less likely to be killed.

On a related topic maybe Aurek can carry the torch, if he is going to be in the background somewhat anyway. And as far as Ameena going up front, that might be a good idea.

Didn't get a chance to post all day because I was on the road, hopefully will be able to post IC now.

Haynuus could carry the torch, then drop it. Not a problem.

Agree with Oh_B that he'd be better off the silent type and be DM controlled :)

As I said, if he's DM controlled it will be almost like he just doesn't exist anymore anyway. An invulnerable NPC that's supposed to be as useful as a PC is...well, let's just say they are usually characters PCs hate in games :D

Anyway, I believe I promised you one map - here it is! Sorry it's not as spectacular as you might have hoped... fingers crossed the one in a few sections time is something everyone can appreciate better!

Maybe... best not to see how the sausage is made with that one!

At the very least, I have adapted as much of the dungeon (and have the ideas and general layout in my head for other parts) as I need for your wanderings. Just like the level 6 area you guys never went to :D

Ok, maybe that 'aid another' roll from Westian needs to be a proper strength check. Or maybe Haynuus needs to just hack at the door 'til it can't be hacked no more!

Edit: And on a completely unrelated note, I just foind Ian's comments on the New World D&D podcast site! :) New one out a few days ago, will get to listen to it (hopefully) today at work!

Yeah, it was weirdas the first episode I listened to was nº 15 or something but fortunately half of it was battling, and the other half was roleplay. I've started listening to a few non D&D ones as well and am surprised that I like those as well now :O

Yeah, I've kept up with everything they do. The Fear itself ones, room B21, the divine fire playtests ran by Tom, Sucrose Park, and the scott glancy ones (dig to victory and uboat huerse) all all pretty sweet!

There's even a community play section where some of the community games have been recorded!

I've had a go at describing it, but really I'll leave it to everyone's imaginations to think how those rolls translate. :D

Ah well, bad rolls now when you can circumvent them = good rolls later during vital times! Curses!

Okj, so let's see...main thread updated, map updated, PM sent to money summarising what's happened, party getting into trouble (or me puttign you guys in trouble, which I don't feel bad about cause I mentioned to be sneaky). Yup, sounds cool to me! Right, time to enjoy the last of the bank holiday evening before work tomorrow :(

Advanced warning of a few holidays of mine coming up:

A week this Thursday I'll be off to Derby for the Download music festival, with absolutely no internet access until like Monday. So yeah, we'll be ending a little early (that's liek the 11th)

At the end of the month (the last Monday - Wednesday) I'll have friends down, so on a severly reduced posting schedule, or won't post at all. (That's liek the 28th to ther 30th)

Just so you guys know !

I am guessing that it is the staff of claws?? If so cool! :D

What are the mechanics for using it as a weapon? Is it treated as a quarterstaff (2-handed, 1 d6 damage)?

Lol, nah, that would have had a claw head. This one's the snake staff - more mana, vaguely different wiggling, and something else! :D Owing to being in the DM dungeon, there'll be a decent mix of old and new stuff for you guys to find. So he're a nice oldie for you.

And yes, it's basically a quarterstaff. However, to keep with the DM feel (which I ignored with the falchion), and because it's magical so light and well balanced, you can also use it as a club-like stick. So you could attack with it and still have a shield or sword in back-up. Normal staves will just act like quarterstaves.

How long is it? I mean, say, if Westian stood it upright on the ground beside him, how tall would it be compared to him? Just to give me an idea of how long it is compared to Ameena. Meanwhile she's interrogating Westian on everything he's figured out about it from his inspection :). Depending on how he answers, she might be simply satisfied or hungrily curious for more information ;).

You've played DM as much as me, you figure it out :p I'm guessing shouler height on Westian, but I'm prepared to be swayed by thoughts higher or lower.

I just wondered - I never bother with staves in DM. They just get left behind. And you never actually see how tall anyone in the party is or anything, or how tall they would be compared to, say, a murafu or a half-elf ;). I just wanted to know the length of the staff to know how I should pitch my mental image with regards to how much longer than Ameena it is. Or maybe it's as long as she is if you include the length of her tail as well, because then she'd probably be just about as long as Westy is tall.

Fair enough :) So yeah, shoulder height on others would basically make it the length of her top to tail. Certainly fighting with it would be a bugger (especially since it's not her size), but despite it being thick for her hands, she might not find it as top heavy as feared if she wanted to take it from Westian during a combat and try to use it.

Walking with it.... that might be a problem...

By the way, I liked the little run on screamers earlier :)

In all seriousness, you can indeed get fighter or clerical levels based on prolonged screaming at things - just depends what you are war crying, doens't it? General defiance, or defiance on behalf of your adopted High Lord!

Ok, one final, final thing, LB is still alive and well, aside from his elbow. So there you go, obviously I'm glad if he's absent if it means nothing falls off, and hope it all gets better!

Still no word from money, but again I assume with a kid and busy work, taking a week off leads to insane business afterwards!

They tend to be the two topmost threads anyway, and not many new threads get started here, so it may not make much difference - I don't think they were ever in danger of becoming submerged and lost beneath piles of other new posts or anything ;).
