Reactor map request
Does anyone have maps for Reactor that they could post on the forum, perhaps as a jpg or word doc or similar.
Re: Reactor
Hey! This cannot be! I've started playing Reactor yesterday! How did you know?
This is the first time I'm playing it and I love it! I've just got to level 4 (I think, maybe it's 3, it's getting complicated, I have to start taking notes).

Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!

Moved to Custom Dungeons.
I can't believe people still play this crappy old dungeon...
(I made it. I'm allowed to call it crappy)

Don't be so hard on yourself. This is a great dungeon which really tests your mental state. If you can play this game for an hour without becoming insane well........ How about making the text file available so that those who haven't managed to complete it can find our way around.

I have been down the bottom then back up the top of this dungeon. It is not a case of just going down. You will find keys that were meant for doors you found on previous levels and you have to go back up to unlock. You will get lost time and time and time again. I have been playing this dungeon off and on for weeks and I am still getting lost. But persevere and I am sure that (unlike me) you will suceed. Keep posting your findings here though. I have gotten to the stage where I have got into the control room whereby there are 3 teleporters that you can use to go backwords and forwards. You need some corbamite, which I have. Use pits as well as doors to find new areas. I have reached an area called the slaughterhouse from where there is supposed to be a stairs down to a new area but haven't found it yet. Reactor is massive so mapping would be ideal if you have a couple of years to spend on it!

Re: Reactor
@Vex: Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?...) I don't have much time to play it now. I'm on level 4 (I think) and I've got at least 8 questions here
- but I'll try to solve it myself first in following weeks. Actually, I'm not really stuck - but there are so many possible ways to continue, and all are a bit hard for me, that I somehow don't know what to do first. But don't tell me... now... I'll try to do it myself, and then let you know.

Ok, right here.vexirk356 wrote:How about making the text file available so that those who haven't managed to complete it can find our way around.
It only generated about 50 pages of errors the last time I tried to load it into the RTC editor, and that was a few versions ago.

Re: Reactor
Thanks Sophie. However. tried to load it into one of the RTC editors I have and it wouldn't load on any of them. I have versions 34, 37, 46 and 49. Is there any specific one to use. 3 of them just shut down without doing anything and the other one just hanged and wouldn't proceed. If anyone does get this file to load could you publish the RTC Number please.
Re: Reactor
The latest version in the download page states clearly it's RTC v0.23vexirk356 wrote:could you publish the RTC Number please.

Re: Reactor
Open the file in Wordpad and re-save it as a TXT. It's in rich-text, formatting everywhere.

Re: Reactor
I don't think it is... however, what I suspect happened was that the file downloaded got translated at some point by the web host into a Unix-format text file, which RTC (and most other Windows apps) don't like.Lord_BoNes wrote:It's in rich-text
Wordpad is able to fix them, though, so your suggestion is still applicable.

Re: Reactor
Its already a text file. I have tried reopening it in word and saving it again as a word text file but no joy. 3 of the Editors just close down immediately and the other just refuses to load it (as before). Can someone post a link to RTC V0.23 please.

Re: Reactor
Okay guys think I have cracked it. Open the original file in Wordpad. Then save as. Where it asks for the Save as Type use the drop down menu and save it as Text Document - MS-DOS Format and then save it as Reactor 2 or similar - that way you won't overwrite the origianl file. You should then be able to open this new file up in RTC Editor.

Re: Reactor
There's nothing wrong with overwriting the existing file... The new one's more correct than the one with formating. But, yes, the rest of that is exactly what I did.

Re: Reactor map request
Sophia - if I remember correctly a long time ago you allowed me to have a couple of source files from you, but I guess they went to hell with a HD I lost.
Would you maybe be willing to provide the reactor source files for the backup collection I'm currently making? Of course I wouldn't dream of uploading anything publicly unless you'd excplicitly say so.

Re: Reactor map request
The link to the txt still works, so it's already public.
Feel free to add it to your backup collection.

Re: Reactor map request
Doh, I missed that one. I will add it to the backup space when I'm back home later.
I take it that no additional media have been used, right?

Re: Reactor map request
help!
I tried a lot of custom dungeons, and this one i like the most.
But, it seems i am stuck, i am on the 2 or 3rd level, and don't know what to do;
Is there a full solution to this dungeon?, or if someone can help me, i am stuck on at the very begginng, in a place where there is an inscription "pick one", i chopped 3 wooden doors near it.
Also, i am running the dungeon with RTC 0.49 (latest as of now), if RTC is the problem, then can someone please point me to the 0.23 version (the one that seems to be working right for this one)
Many thanks;

Re: Reactor map request
Go to where you downloaded V0.49, and alter the download link to say 0.23 instead.

Thx, but the link is 404

Re: Reactor map request
I think 0.23 might have had some issues, here is 0.24. http://dmweb.free.fr/Stuff/files/RTC_V024.zip
Re: Reactor map request
Thx beowuuf for the prompt reply
i'll try this version, and report back.

Re: Reactor map request
Since my RTC engine archive is still incomplete, I didn't upload it so far. However, since Reactor might not work sufficiently in V0.24 I've added RTC V0.23 to my custom dungeon skydrive.

Re: Reactor map request
Version 0.23, 11 January 2003
Version 0.24, 9 February 2003
Minor update to fix a problem with teleporters and a few other small fixes.
I think it's safe to say 0.24 is ok. 0.25 was not released, and 0.26 was a major update, so I wouldn't necessaruily trust 0.26-27 onwards.
Re: Reactor map request
Playing it now with 0.24 and ok for now;
Even with 0.49 i hadn't had a bug problem, because i was stuck not solving a puzzle; (which i did solve now)
Incredible how i prefer playing DM than a lot of new games. Very addictive.
Also, after testing a lot of custom dungeons, i liked Reactor a lot, because it's difficulty is increasing bit by bit. (Thanks Sofia, great dungeon)

Re: Reactor map request
hey Sophia, what about importing Reactor to DSB?
I guess there aren`t any ultra-twisted mechanics to reproduce? I`ll have to play it at least..
As for the maps, I would just like to get "plain" (binary - 0s for floors and 1s for walls) maps. A player could print it, add what he like and take notes while exploring dungeon.. Plain map wouldn`t spoil anything from the game (no teleporters, no traps, no monsters, no items, no decos etc) and partially prevent from getting lost in a big areas. It`s up to the player what he`d note on the map..
You could, of course, simply open the dungeon file in the editor, but that might unintentionally spoil some riddles!!!

Re: Reactor map request
I know that Sophia once started a remake of Reactor in DSB. How far she came, I don't know... But I certainly hope she will finish it.
