Weaknesses monsters
Hello !
I am sorry for my bad english but i'm french ^^
I play to Dungeon master but some monsters is very hard to kill.
I want to know if somebody know different catégories of monster and their weaknesses.
For example if the dragon is weaker against such a magic spell ressistant to other magic spell ....
Thank you to all the kings of Dungeon Master !

Hi, DoubleVé, welcome to the forums
. I think the best resource you can use for the kind of info you're after will be the DM Encyclopaedia, which can be found at dmweb.free.fr
.

Re: Weaknesses monsters
Hello,
Thank you ! This is what I was looking.
But I have some difficulties with some description ...
For example : "Value 15 means the creature is immune."
It means that if the value is 15, the creature is immune ? And 0, the creature is very sensitive ?

Re: Weaknesses monsters
I would presume 0 - 14 are a scale of resistance (unprotected to very resistant). I'm not sure what 14 represents in terms of damage resistance though.
Re: Weaknesses monsters
what do you mean/ suspect? half damage? some anomaly? So it is not entirely clear?Dungeon Mastiff beo wrote:I'm not sure what 14 represents in terms of damage resistance though.
Re: Weaknesses monsters
I meant I'm not sure if the 13 - 14 jump is the same as the 14 - 15 jump (or at least follows on the same scale) or if, as you say, the lowest resistance before immuinity is still pretty low.

Re: Weaknesses monsters
There is a huge leap between 14 and 15, and a rather paltry 2hp jump between all of the others.
(Resistance * 2) + 1 is subtracted from the damage that would be done, meaning that a monster with a resistance of 14 would only be protected from 29hp of damage from a fireball. In the case of large fireballs, this means that essentially values 0-14 are almost no resistance and 15 is total immunity.
While trying to find this information I was first looking at the DSB code, and I realized that I totally changed the system from DM. I was a bit mystified as to why I would do this, but after refreshing my memory on how DM did it now I understand why.

Re: Weaknesses monsters
Huh, so how does the scorpion, etc on the lower levels appear very resitant to fireballs? Is it simply the fact they have massive hp anyway?
Re: Weaknesses monsters
All become clear !
I suppose that for poison, subtraction applies on the total damage .... So duration of poison is always the same ?
For the scorpion for the little I saw, it seems to be just a story of HP, we see many mummies become incredibly more ressistantes, so why not scorpions ?
I'm not a king of dungeon master yet, I have difficulty ^^
Thanks

Re: Weaknesses monsters
But then again you have knight that do not seem to take very much damage from anything. That is not just HP-related I guess?!
Weapons do meagre damage values, except for doors and spells don´t do much. (Knights do not have resistances of 15*)
Then again, if it is in the code we can believe Sophia! :/
*edit: ok, they do. But I have in memory (again) that I have killed one or the other knights with ven clouds... coluld confuse that with golems
edit2>: ok, there is armor and protection also.. so I guess that´s that.

@Sophia:
But then again, my spellsystem is kind of homemade, so if there are any deeper calculations here I can investigate it myself instead of destroying this topic with math stuff..
Is this thru the whole DM, and that nothing like the levelmultiplier plays any role here? And also, does this go for the poisonresistance also, I mean a poisoncloud only do a low damage per timeinterval, so a poisonresistance of 14 would mean imunity because the posioncloud never reach a damage of (14 * 2) + 1 = 29? Because if this is the case I have to do some changes myself...(Resistance * 2) + 1 is subtracted from the damage that would be done

Re: Weaknesses monsters
The level's experience multiplier has nothing to do with this figure. It's solely for impacts, like fireballs and lightning.
Cloud damage uses the formula of (8*Damage) / (Resistance+1), with 15 being a special case of no damage. So, a monster with 14 poison resistance takes 8/15 = a little under half damage, standing in a poison cloud. This also means monsters with poison resistance less than 7 take more than "basic" damage. Incidentally, this is closer to the formula I ended up using for DSB.
