Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
OOC - lol, Haynuus is already in negative numbers and even quaffing an OM VI potion isn't going to help the overall situation much.
The half-orc was in a very bad way as the weapon whipped and wheeled about him. A normal and more intelligent humanoid would have fallen yet Haynuus' brain insisted that Ameena was about to turn into a ninja-fireball-throwing ball of fur. He took a step back and then reached into his backpack to take a hopeful few mouthfuls of the OM VI potion that Westian had bestowed him. It was perhaps fateful that Garax's blade had clipped the string that had held the holy symbol around Haynuus's neck and now it fell to the floor with a chink.

remmeber the potion heals an equal amou8nt of non-lethal and lethal damage, so effecively doubling the healing right now
Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Psst. Remember when you rolled a 3d6 and it was almost twice as good? I'd use that one if I were youian_scho wrote:UM VI (3d6=16)

Ameena scurried forward to the chest. The table behind her just had some differently yellowed liquids in them. Thouyg hthe table was low enough down she could reach it easily if the chest provided no help. The chest was about the size of Ameena, and seemed to be of a simple dark wood. There was no lock on it, it seemed a very simple hinged box. Ameena was glad to took the time to sniff it once more though, for there was a strong smell of magic around. It was not from the box itself, not from inside the box, it seemed to be around the box. She hadn't detected it by the door, and might not have noticed it rushing, but now the subtle smell of mana was unmistakeable. And perhaps worrying...
To open the box, or not open the box? That is the question! It will take a move action to do that, and Ameena would have a standard action left to do something to figure the box out - no more perception rolls, she's got as much as she can get from those. The 17 carries for the room, the 26 for checking for traps. The liquids, as you can see, are descripbed now a little. It was human head sized, really, which was maybe not a measurement I should have used for Ameena's narration. Room lay out, etc, to follow after I've worked out everything else for Haynuus. No rocks or anything loose in the room, but I assume Ameena would have picked up a few interesting small stones from the waterfall if you like.
Haynuus fell back, his hands going to his potion even as his vision started to black out. He could not disguise exactly how badly the man had hurt the half-orc with a few skillful blows.
Garax halted from following up the attack to quickly move across to the doorway. He obviously feared what Ameena was doing and decided Haynuus could wait, despite the half-orc reaching for healing.
"Stay away, thief!" he snarled, then cursed at her in some strange language. Meanwhile, he quickly took the dagger from his belt and threw it in her direction. The dagger thumped easily into the wood of the box beside her, triggering no traps and more importantly not skewering her.
I assume Haynuus takes a five-foot step backwards before drinking the potion, so as not to incur an attack of opportunity.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Ameena decides to take a chance. She first pulls the dagger free and shoves it into her belt, then heaves open the lid of the box and peers inside it, wondering what she'll find and at the same time knowing that she now has something she can use against Garax as a last resort.
OOC - If yoinking the dagger counts as a Standard action or something, and means that Ameena can't do something with the chest, assume she just takes the dagger for now and will do the chest next go (unless circumstances drive her to do otherwise). If she can do both (maybe taking the dagger is a Standard, since I would imagine it's not a simple matter of picking it up but actually prising it free?), then fine
. Actually, now I think about it, in case the dagger was deeply embedded I'm guessing it would probably be a Str roll to free it, which case I score...haha! Crit
. Natural 20 which means a 20 anyway as I have no Str bonus. Damn, I rather hope I did need to make that roll now, otherwise I've just wasted a bloody good turn of the die, haven't I?
If there's nothing immediately useful in the chest, I expect I'll get back to flanking. Ooh, while I think of it, a question - can a Sneak Attack inflict non-lethal damage, or only lethal? And can I only choose to inflict non-lethal damage with my natural weapons (ie teeth, that is, my "unarmed" state) or with anything?

Sadly it's an exception to the rule, where you cannot deal non-lethal sneak attack damage with a lethal weapon, even if you pay the non-lethal penalty to the hit roll. You can do non-lethal damage with a natively non-lethal weapon like your paws or a sap though (or an improvised sap like a pouch of stones
) In a way it makes sense, sneak attack is taking advantage to strike someone in a sensative spot. You can bash someone with a blunt item on the back of the head, say, but tappng them on the back of the head with a dagger doens't have the same effect devistating

OOC - Ahh okay, so I can't do non-lethal if I want to BS someone. Oh well, just thought I'd check
. What is a sap, anyway?

A sap is a tight bag containing a heavy material, usually used to knock someone out. Also known as a blackjack. And you can do non-lethal sneak attacks with your paws, since by default they do non-lethal. Or like I said, take your changes with a pouch filled with rocks
Or one of the statues up higher (would be an improvised weapon)

OOC - Ahh, I know of blackjacks (I've played the Thief games enough
)...just never heard it called a "sap" before. Anyway, will see what's in the box or whatever, if I can do that this go, then maybe twat the human later (if Haynuus can continue to keep him busy for just a little bit longer

The half-orc had never experienced such a refreshing liquid before. His bruises and cuts disappated somewhat in an instance - oh he could leap for joy! So he did, through the door and used his new sword to great effect on the side of Garax. (1d20+12=29, 2d6+4=14, 1d20+7=21, 2d6+4=11) It was a fascinating scene, if not a little macabre. He saw a sort of swirling vortex cum chain-sword effect but completely silent like death as he swung.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Not a problem! At least the combat is reasonably simple right now. Garax is actually two steps away from you, so you can only attack once. Also, I was rushing my reply about the negative hit points at work, and decided to let something slide about it last night. Basically, having more non-lethal damage than remaining hit points means you fall unconscious, and it doesn't trigger your die hard cushion. This was always my understanding, and I checked it out a while back on the D&D forum anticipating this coming up. However, in the current situation, and where you already indicated you were going to drin ka potion, I felt it a little cheap to knock you out. However, just warning you if it happens again Haynuus would automatically fall unconscious. Of course, if he goes to negative hit points from just lethal damage, then of course he gets to stand upright
Haynuus wasn't going to let Garax get to Ameena, and rushed after his friend. The OH blade slide effortlessly through Garax's armour, and the man cried out in pain as the blade bit deeply in his side. Garax had already spotted Haynuus's move forward, but his first movement with the strange curved blade seemed to be more distraction than an attempt to hit Haynuus. A return blow caused a glancing blow across Haynuus's head, and another swipe went wide.
It appeared that Garax was sorely distracted by Ameena's movements, however Garax#s weapon was still a painful and dangerous impliment in dangerous and pain-giving hands.
Well, at the very least Haynuus's desperate rush was goign ot be rewarded by letting Ameena have more time to rummage. It seemed lady luck decided to bless it too by not being the last thing Haynuus got to do this combat! Two misses - including a natural 1 with the guaranteed first strike - and also the damage rolled for the strike was pretty low. Still 10 hit points lethal damage though. Remember what I said about non-lethal damage being greater than you current hit points. I don't think you are there yet, but I imagine you are getting close again!
Ameena perhaps could herar the commotion at the door, and know that her companion had her back. With a brave fast spring in her step, the chest was opened swiftly and without hesitation.
The roaring ghostly scream was terrifying, but lasted only a moment. The smell of mana was stronger for a moment, and then faded. It did not appear the magic aroudn the chest had been destructive. However, surely such a simple scare mechanism was not all that was guarding the chest? That would seem to indicate the chest might not have much....
I'm assuming Ameena will look inside instead of move away. If she would not check in after that noise, then ignore the rest of this.
It was a little precarious, but Ameena managed to balance on the chest. It was mercifully shallow inside (or perhaps just piled a little high with items) however in her rush there was no real time to dive in and sniff/sort the items inside properly. There appeared to be a couple of black-bound books in one corner, that made Ameena feel dizzy. There was a black dagger, with a twisted blade (like an undulating snake). There were a few brightly coloured potions, suspociously liek the ones Soorec had in his room. A couple of bright red ones, three opaque white ones with a light glow, and a few pleasantly earthy translucent ones. There seemed to be a small innucuous doll, with humanoid limbs, lying down at the bottom. It was made of brownish fur, and seemed strange. There also seemed to be a set of shiny metallic round stones, ones that would seem small even in Ameena's hand. There were about eight in total, and they all seemed to be connected to one another, even though there was no apparent reason for it.
So there we go, a box of weird stuff on top. You can imagine thre are some materials ontop that stop you seeing anything underneath. The depth would be such that it would take a fullround action to get further in to really explore, and Ameena would be in a vulnerable positon. Meanwhile, the good roll and Haynuus's fortune distracting Garax should be rewarded. Ameena will have the time and safety to grab two items (one each claw) quickly enough to still have her standard and move action free next round to use them, examine them, or do something else.
Hmm, some tactics that worked out at the start of the combat, but you've made some gambles that only luck have allowed to work. Time to get co-ordinated and get this guy people! Ian, if work is a little busy, I don't mind you taking a day or two to get some free time, rather than rush a move.
Anyway, good luck guys!

OOC - One note - you didn't mention anything about Ameena's attempt to pull Garax's dagger out from where he lobbed it and it embedded itself in the chest - see the OOC notes in my previous post
. If I get to take the dagger (though if I can't do that and open the chest, obviously the chest would have had priority
), could you let me know what the damage roll would be for it? I have my own personal suspicions about what the wibbly black dagger in the chest might be, but Ameena wouldn't have a clue about that (well, presumably not...it depends what DM weps she's come across in her slightly-blurred memories of the past...future...whatever
).

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
You guessed right that pulling the dagger out would lose time. If Ameena wants to grab the dagger, actually grabbing the stuff will ahve to fold into next turn, so she'll lose iether a standard or move action. Sorry, I didn't explicitly state that. A human sized dagger is 1d4, but comes with a -2 penalty. I think I'll play loose with the fact it should technically be a one handed weapon instead of a light weapon for Ameena. It would still be a light weapon, but more short-sword like than knife like. The wobbly dagger would be the same, but as you might guess have benefits to compensate for that...if it's what you think it is. It might not be :p Ameena might have vague emmeories regarding it. Make a will save if you like

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
OOC - Okay...so I can take either the dagger or stuff from the chest, but not both, on this turn? And the damage from said dagger would be 1d4-2? Do weps not take bonuses from the appropriate stat in 3.5? Because I think in 4th I'd be adding my Dex mod to the damage which would therefore cancel out the penalty and make it 1d4+6. Ooh, the confusion of doing lots of actions in combat, lol...I'm not sure what counts as what type of action and I've forgotten again what the action types are called in 3.5 because I recall it's not just Standard, Move, and Minor (and Free) like it is in 4th. Oh well, I'll make a post which will probably be all wrong and can then mess around and change it all later tonight, when I get back from club and I'm knackered
.
BIC - Ameena looks at the things in the chest, but decides that she doesn't have time to try and work out which would be safe to use, if indeed anything is - chances are a lot of it is magical, and she doesn't want to risk doing more harm than good by trying to use something she doesn't know enough about.
Instead she pulls out Garax's dagger and moves back toward him, making sure he's directly between herself and Haynuus - from the looks of things, she should probably be helping her friend anyway, and decides she should probably have taken the dagger and just come straight back to help. Now worried for Haynuus's life, she lashes out with the dagger at Garax's legs, hoping to strike him through some chink in his armour. While harming someone wouldn't normally be something she'd normally do, she knows she has to do something, and figures that since she knows the two of them have at least one healing potion between them (since she's carrying one herself), as long as the damage done isn't too much, they'll be able to revive the human afterwards.
OOC - No idea what kind of actiosn I've already had this round - I had Ameena take Garax's dagger last turn (I think) and you didn't comment on it so I dunno whether I can say that that happened or whether she now does that this turn. If the former, then does that mean she gets to move and attack this go, or did opening the chest count as one of those, or was that last turn and taking the dagger was the turn before? Well, I'll roll some attack dice anyway - if I can't attack this go then just use the rolls next time. I know I can't do a "Called Shot" (I don't even think that skill exists in DnD
) and mechanically declare which body part I'm hacking at, but narratively speaking, Ameena is attempting a bit of ankle-slicing. Hopefully I won't need to make a Reflex save to avoid the great brute falling on top of me if I do enough damage to gank him
.
Anyway...attack roll = 12 (2+8+2), damn. I think that's a miss but I'll roll damage anyway. Umm...well, I'll roll a d4 and you can work out whatver the bonuses/penalties would be 'cause I didn't entirely understand that part. So, d4 = 4 (woohoo
). And as I have moved to flank (hence the extra +2 in the attack roll), Sneak Attack damage = 15 (5+5+5)
.
Like I said, if I can't attack him this go, save those rolls for next time - unless the current sitiation changes enough by next round, Ameena will still try to attack - obviously if Haynuus goes down, or she gets clobbered or something (in which case she'll probably be the one to go...how far into negative hp can we go before we die in this version?), her plan of action is likely to change.

While it's true there are some funny combat actions that became minor actions, combat actions split is easier in 3.5. You still have a standard action, and you still have a move action. JUst that's it. Many things that are minor actions are move actions. Hence why I was ignoring the dagger comment if you also wanted to open and examine the chest contents last round. I'll let the dagger grab carry, so yes, you can rush up and attackthis round. Shame you missed really, the sneak attack was valid and you had good damage there!
You can use that roll if you get another sneak attack.
You can only go to -9hp in this version, and you basically lose 1 hit point per turn until you can stabalise or are stabalised - the good news being, you don't keep rolling, the bad news being, you don't instantly come back up. And it's a 10% chance to stabalise!

OOC - OK, it's a toughie but I can't see an easy way around this one. Haynuus could try another grapple but I'm not confident that once more he'd get the same result.
The half-orc swung twice with his sword (1d20+12=27, 2d6+4=15, 1d20+7=17, 2d6+4=13) as if it was air in his hands, only to feel the true resistance as he met Garax. He shouted across to Ameena, "quick, use the stones!" He'd little time to see what she was doing, yet what was bizarre was the set of stones that were hanging half out of the box. HE had no idea what they were, and if Garax did....
OOC - I'm assuming a Bluff check (1d20-2=8) was a full action anyway, and so wouldn't have worked!

OOC - Erm, "hanging half out of the box"? Ameena hasn't touched anything that was in there so it will still be packed away in whatever way it was when she opened it (so nothing could have leapt out by itself unless it's capable of doing so of its own accord), and I don't imagine Haynuus can see over the room that far and into the chest, especially not when he's probably slightly occupied with that weapon-wielding human fellow right now
. I think possibly you may be attempting to meta-game just a bit there
.
Oh, and Wuffy - with the dagger damage, what was the -2 for? I did ask in the previous post but you didn't refer back to it

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Yeah, that's a bit too metagame-y Ian! Haynuus would have no idea what's in the chest. His darksight would let him see the room better of course so he'd at least spot Ameena and the chest. I would have rolled with it if Ameena had taken the twisted dagger out or rummaged around, but as she's left everything alone then they're still resting where she saw them
Was replying at work Ameena, missed that you thought the -2 was for damage. The -2 is for to hit rolls only, and is for using a weapon not designed for your size. The price of doing the next die size up in damage. And no, in 3.5 strength governs damage (so a +0 bonus), it's 4th ed alone that lets you use the appropriate ability score as a damage modifier too.
Garax snorted to himself as Ameena grabbed the dagger stuck into the chest itself instead of the contents. He easily moved his foot out of the way of Ameena's sneaky attack, using the momentum to Smash Haynuus in the face and then bring his weapon down on Ameena's head. Both were blows that skiffed the targets, but the shallow deep cuts were painful and incapacitating.
Apparently, the combination of satisfaction at landing a blow finally on the usually mobile murafu, and then the painful consequence of Haynuus's brutal strike broke the man's rhythm, and he barely flicked a late movement at Haynuus to keep the orc away.
Yeah, combat moves are hard in 3.5, simple because of the AoO cost to do anything. Then again, if you can take that gamble, some of the options - like disarm, sunder, bullrush and grapple - can then become very powerful. Farel managed an unarmed disarm (because he had the improved feat) on his guard in Aurek's starting story and turned the tables, for example. IF it had been Haynuus and Garax solo, Garax might have tried a basic sunder or disarm because the OH blade is making quite the unwelcome impression. Pressed on both sides, he's going to triple attack. Both of you lucked the damage rolls a little, so Haynuus takes 11 damage, and Ameena 10 there. Both lethal.
Is Haynuus still upright? If so, beng busy you might have missed/forgotten what I mentioned about bullrush previously. Ameena is back in a flanking potionion. Technically bullrush shouldn't let you push a foe over an ally, which is stupid as that's exactly what anyone would do! Especially since Ameena is small!
So yeah, if you try an improved bullrush to knock Garax prone, then a) non AoO, b) you actually have the advantage since it's a raw strength test, where Haynuus has been remarked as being stronger, and Haynuus also gets a bonus, c) if you knock Garax prone you guys start getting the -4AC benefit, and he gets the -4 to hit penalty. Plus since he's shown he'd rather stand up than stauy on the floor, it's a decent gamble (unless he gets desperate) that he won't try a triple strike, and will instead provoke AoOs to stand up and then only have a standard single attack for that round. Assuming he can try to get up
Just a thought!

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
OOC - Ahh, when I asked about damage and you said it was "1d4 with a -2 penalty" or words to that affect, I thought you were just talking about damage. Surely if the dagger is considered a short sword, though, it's not gonna be oversized to her or anything? It wouldn't be if it was a larger creature using an actual short sword
. And just to check - Weapon Finesse (which I have) only affects attack rolls, doesn't it, not damage? So to summarise, a normal, basic attack with Garax's black dagger would be +8 to attack and 1d4 damage? Well, +6 to attack with that penalty thing, but like I said, if the dagger is considered a short sword when wielded by Ameena, that shouldn't matter - she's proficient with both. She managed fine with that other, crappy knife, after all, and surely that was in the same weapon class
.
Oh, and "shallow deep cuts"? Little oxymoron there, I think?
Anyway...
BIC - Ameena feels the strange, bladed weapon slice through her head and the back of her neck - despite seeing it coming at the last moment she hs no time to attempt to dodge out of the way, Garax's skill being what it is. She feels the warm blood trickling down through the fur of her back and instinctively lashes out at the human, again aiming for the legs.
OOC - Alright so this move might not count if Haynuus does the bullrush thing, or whatever, since I think I go after him in the initiative order. But that's my move for the moment, unless things change
. Soo, attack roll = ohh bollocks...okay I rolled the same as last time - I won't bother rolling damage then
.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
No, it's a hard and fast and understandable rule - a) a weapon used by a race of a different size catergory is considered a wepaon catergory higher, and b) seperately, it has a -2 penalty to attack because it is not made for a creature your size. A halfling dagger, short sword and sword would all have a small grip for halfling hands, for example. A human grip would be much bulkier, so even thoug hthe length of the weapons could be adjusted, the grip is always going to be bad (and the balance) so a halfling using a human dagger as a short sword would still find it cumbersome. So yes, +4 base attack, +4 dexterity bonus, -2 for using a non-small person weapon, but +2 as long as you flank = +8 (or +6 not flanking)
If you weren't actually proficient with the weapon - like say a two handed sword weilding a human sword - you'd take an additional -4 penalty.
I was being nice with the knife earlier - since it was like a utility knife, I was saying it doubles as a human and small person weapon without any penalties to either (really it should have had a slight penalty for not being a proper combat weapon).

OOC - Ahhh, Bull Rush DOESN'T need a 10 feet minimum distance! I didn't know that thinking that you always needed a minimum charging distance. Wierde. The stones thing is me grasping at straws.... Or stones.
Haynuus was on his last legs now, with little recourse but to put his head down and intend to topple his opponent over the diminutive Murafu! It was a brilliant idea that had formed in his mind that could only have come from his new-found-friend the magic circlet. To be honest he'd always grappled his opponents to the floor at close range but in this dungeon he had learnt a lot... Like being big and smelly means that you can knock your opponents over at close range too.
With Garax's blade doing lots of flashy, wavy actions the half-orc merely bent down with his head and shouldered him over Ameena (1d20+8=21) who appeared to performing some sort of poking action with a dagger as if she was testing that the turkey was cooked or not.

OOC - If Garax falls over as a result of this, I'm guessing I'll therefore be on the wrong side of him for flanking or something. Can you make sure you definitely state where we're all standing so I know if/where I can move in order to get back into position again, or whatever

Oh wow. Garax rolls a 2 for bullrush resist. Even if I had misgivings about the prone for simple beating him in a bullrush, I think beating him by like 15 deserves it
And don't worry Ameena, because of how he'll fall, it's a simple matter to 5-foot step around him to get back to a flanking position.
Ameena is perhaps surprised by the tall armoured human sudden;y coming close to her. Not as much as Garax, who is shocked when Haynuus sudden;y executes a perfect duck and run. Haynuus catches Garax perfectly in the chest, and the armoured man staggers wrong-footed. Feeling the murafu - who darts out of the way the moment the man's armoured leg presses into her, and before he can step on her tail or coat. Meanwhile, he twists himself as he feels something at the back of him, and then has no ability to right himself.
For the second time, Garax crashes down painfully onto the floor, this time through more mundane methods of Hyanuus's might. He roars at the murafu that his eyeline comes into contact with, and flicks a weapon blow at her. He then tries to use the momentum of the swing to stand up again, his black eyes on (metaphorical) fire as he glares daggers at Haynuus.
Oh noes, I think I broke Ameena
Even being prone, he still scores a hit this time around, and rolled good damage - so Ameena takes 15 points. I think that puts her at -2 hit points!
She's not dead, but she is dying. So she drops unconscious, and each round you need to roll a d10. If you roll a 1 (10% chance), Ameena stabalises, and just lies there unconscious. Unlike 4th edition, that's it, no more rolls, she's fine. However, if you don't roll a 1 that round, you lose another hit point. Once Ameena hits -10 hit points, she's properly dead
So as you can see, in somes ways this is better than the death strike rules of 4th edition, in some ways worse. With death strikes, you could technically die faster in this case, but you've more ways to come back alive and being fine. In 3.5, as long as the weapon blow only does a few hit points under 0, you have a longer cushion to stay alive. However, it's more likely you could be killed instantly by a powerful attack, or have less chances to roll. And you can't roll a 20 and come back to life yourself - you need to be healed! Swings and roundabouts, really : ) Works out well for you just now, at least!
Obviously, I'll run a side thread about what is happening while Ameena is unconscious... you don't get out of posting that easily!
Now, the good news is that Garax coming into her square provokes an attack of opportunity while Ameena is still flanking. The bad news is, she has a 25% chance of hitting Haynuus instead. If you think Ameena would strike out of instinct then go ahead and roll your attack (Which you didn't do, or at least I can't find the rolls), adding sneak attack damage. Also roll a 1d4 - if you roll a 1, you hit Haynuus
Right...assuming Ameena doens't kill Haynuus...
Ian, you get an attack of opportunity against Garax when he goes to stand up. The good news is that his AC will be four points less, so at this point I think you are almost guaranteed to hit him! You also then have your normal set of actions to use against a standing Garax. Obviously, Ameena is dying. You have @ 6-7 turns to do something about that.
As you may guess, even if both of you guys die here.... it's not the end. I wouldn't pit you against a foe this powerful without an exit strategy as a DM. Although ironically, because you have done so well against him, you might find the cost of coming back form the brink is a little more severe than if you'd have just let him knock you unconscious at the start
If you'd gone some of the other routes, you would have been on your own though, so still better than nothing.
Long story short - don't die, and kill this guy! Come on Ian, you can do it!

OOC - OK, Haynuus has 8HP, so I'd recommend Ameena swing at him anyways. Next, if we don't floor him this round he's practically guaranteed to knock out or even kill Haynuus. Ohhhhhh Ameena.... Eeek!
Haynuus swings in horror (1d20+12=13, 2d6+4=9) after seeing Ameena fall to the ground gravely wounded, as Garax stood to his feet. He was deeply affected by seeing his small friend cut down by this large human. She offered little real danger to Garax and yet his anger had turned on her as she had inadvertently tripped him up.
He attacked and screamed and swore once more (1d20+12=27, 2d6+4=14, 1d20+7=16, 2d6+4=12) at his armoured opponent in sheer desperation, terror and anger. They were surely lost should Garax remain standing just 10 more seconds. Tears were starting to roll down his face now

Haynuus is still faster than Garax - I hate to say it, but Haynuus could use a withdraw action to retreat faster than Garax could persue him
Still, I have no problem with you attackign ot the bitter end and crossing your fingers :p

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
OOC - Umm, Ian, you realise that my damage is easily enough to totally finish off Haynuus in one hit, right? I rolled 15 dam on the previous Sneak Attack though I didn't have Combat Advantage at the time but Wuffy said I could keep that roll until next time. So I'd be doing basically 1d4+15 damage to Haynuus if I hit him. I dunno what his max hp is but I bet I could down him in about three hits if I had CA and rolled high on the dice
.
So you'd better hope I don't roll a 1 here...
BIC - Ameena manages to dodge aside as Haynuus hurls his weight into Garax, causing the human to half-trip over her and come crashing back down onto the hard floor in his noisy plate armour. She stabs again at him with the dagger, this time at one of his hands, since it's now within reach, hoping, as before, to injure him enough that he drops his weapon, or at least can't hold onto it enough to properly wield it.
However, though she dodged his fall, she has no time to avoid his next strike, which slashes across her. She feels the pain streak across her and the warmth of blood flowing down her fur, her vision already going hazy as she slumps to the ground. Suddenly all nearby sound seems to dim, along with the light, as she loses all awareness of the waking world.
OOC - Right then, let's do some rolls. I really really hope I don't roll a 1 on the d4. Best get that out of the way first. Sooo...let's see what we get...yaaay, 3
. Okay so if the attack roll hits, Haynuus is fine
. Attack roll = 18 (10+6+2). Damage = 17 (2+5+5+5)...adding on the BS dam I rolled a couple of turns ago 'cause you said I could
. Whether an 18 is enough to hit a dude in plate armour, I have no idea - I haven't been paying attention to Haynuus's attack rolls to see whether he's scored that or low and managed to hit
. Obviously, the "disarming" part of the stab was just narrative fluff - Ameena would never strike to kill on a creature such as a human, no matter how much of an arse they are
.
And finally, that d10 to avoid bleeding out = 10. D'oh, lol. So I now drop to -3hp, yes?
Meanwhile, Ian, if Haynuus can just knock Garax out and tie him up or something, Ameena would much prefer that to waking up next to a corpse
. Though she'd probably understand if Haynuus did end up killing him. She just doesn't like that kind of thing, that's all. Oh, and in case Haynuus is out of healing potions, don't forget she has an Um-Vi in one of her pouches (assuming Haynuus thinks to look for it, 'cause he wasn't there when Westy gave it to her and I don't think she's mentioned it). I expect she looks quite a mess, with blood all over her fur and cloak and stuff.

So you'd better hope I don't roll a 1 here...

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
There's a reason why being prone is bad - the blow that would have missed had Garax been standing instead wounded him pretty badly. Glad there was a fitting reward for the murafu getting ganked!
Garax staggered out of the way of Haynuus's blow, the half-orc obviously too upset to aim properly at first. Garax tottered, and the reason why was clear when he stood, for there was rich blood pooling from the wound Ameena had managed to deliver wit hthe man's own dagger. Haynuus's crushing and piercing blows had wrinkled and cracked the man's armour, and Ameena's blow had found its mark.
Garax Warblade still blinked and fought against the potion Haynuus had thrown earlier, and one of his arms seemed to move awkwardly where one of Haynuus's ephemeral blows had wounded the man deeply.
Still, the Warblade stood, hatred and anger burning in his eyes that equalled his uncertainty. Haynuus, meanwhile, had uncertainty and rushed with a flurry of invisible blows at the man that had felled his small companion - maybe even friend?
Quite late the Warblade raised his own weapon, falling back a step and slipping on some blood. Haynuus's first blow missed splitting the man, but instead smashed into the plated man's exposed leg opening a deep wound.
There was a flurry of furious blows on both sides, both trying to gain the advantage of the other. Haynuus's anger and fury seemed to beat the Warblade's, and all that stopped his decapitation was his instinctive skill with his chosen weapon.
Finally, Haynuus staggered back and took a look at Garax. The man almost slipped again, but still stood as if by some internal discipline. Haynuus styarted noticing small details...the man's armour had a very dark green tinge toit, it wasn't pure black. There was a deep green cross painted onto his chest, not something Haynuus had time to notice before. The armour had apparently got the skull motif of the normal blackskull armour, but in this case all the screaming faces had been smoothed over...
The Warblade's strange weapon seemed to have fresh blood on it.
The world seemed to be moving very slowly, or else his mind was finally moving very fast. Haynuus's mind realised there was an odd numbness that hurt around his neck, and then his vision darkened and he became weightless...
Oh noes again! Haynuus, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ian, feel free to have a Haynuus reaction, and then join me in the OOC thread for some quick checking.
