"Westian! There you are! I lost you for a moment. What is the plan of attack?" said Aurek, with a bit of surprise in his voice. Then he stood by and listened to 'the plan', as Westian explained it.
"So... should we pursue Theron? Or should we attempt to find this 'Blackskull leader', and shed a little light into his tiny little world?"

Yes that's right... I am alive. I've just been unable to use my PC or the internet for quite a while (since I was last online... and that's a while :P ) And now I have returned to the DM forums. YAY!

Ameena listens as the others start to suggest plans of action.
"I can try to see where the rest of the Soulstone is." she suggests. "But...I think we should first try to stop that...Theron...from being killed, because that was...um...that would probably not be a good thing..."
She pauses, briefly, not sure how much she should be saying in front of the troll-creatures.
"I mean, bad things might happen if we do some things too quickly. Maybe we should try to make sure things happen slowly instead, so we can...think of things. The longer everyone is talking, after all, the less they'll be trying to hurt us. I hope."

The paladin lit up with enthusiasm at seeing the imminent end to this confrontation. Haynuus was pleased that his suggestion of sending Aurek in first to the meat grinder (the chamber where the big bosses are) had the effect of magically waking him up.

"So... Westian thinks that we should talk a bit first." He then sidles up to the paladin and whispers "And our trolin friends here can take most of the glory if you know what you mean." Haynuus meant no ill to the trolins, even though he was uncomfortable around them, but they were best at soaking up the damage while the clever stuff gets done. And the clever stuff involved giving Theron a slap around the face and tell him to *get over it* and *wake up*.

"Yes, they can have all the glory that they wish to take." Aurek says quietly to the now very close Haynuus, "But we need to come up with a plan of attack first." he says, looking back to Westian for all the answers.

"Yes, well...um...we certainly do need, and indeed have, a plan." Westian replied the group, still sounding flustered and uncertain as he was asked to think on his feet. "You are all correct, it is...um...incumbent on us to not simply charge in, but make sure we fully leverage all the available resources afforded by the fact that our very presence here is likely unanticipated by our fearsome aggressors." Westian had an unconscious habit of speaking less clearly the more uncertain he was of a subject, in the hope that a listener would assign any lack of clarity on their incomprehension rather than a lack of knowledge on his part.

He looked at Ameena and nodded. "The Soulstone..yes, I had been thinking about that" he lied. "An interesting artefact, but you are right - if calling the Grey Lord prematurely before had unpleasant consequences we should perhaps wait to ensure that Theron survives before we alert him."

"So if Falkor could send a message to Theron, and then to the blackskull leader we could sow the end of their unity, making our work easier. The rest of us can buy time by forming a front line and moving forwards as soon as they are aware of our presence." He dabbed away a patch of sweat on his forehead as he hoped that "the rest of us" actually meant the Trolins rather than him.

Then, in a rare display of public uncertainty, he questioned his own idea. "Or...um...do you think it foolish for us to directly fight the leaders together? It is just that I...um..do not really see another choice."

I am assuming the Trolins are a bit away, otherwise Westian would not make that last question!

"We could always ask the trolins themselves their intentions." Haynuus offered. The truth of the matter was that he didn't completely trust their king. His intentions were occasionally obscured.

The Trolin King and his subjects - some like Guree and Uumack perhaps not really his subjects anymore - were indeed involved in discussion as Westian carried on his discussions about a plan. This was perhaps for the best, with Westian not able to articulate a plan. He had such a strong resolve before, when darker stark thoughts had pushed him onwards. Now, it seemed that in light of Farel's sacrifice, and having to look in to the eyes of those such as Ameena, it was a different and more difficult prospect.

Deephold moved to stand with Westian, that mentor look comign to the old sdwarf's eyes, and a kindly hand patting the cleric on the arm. "Now is not the time to lose faith in yourself nor our god, Dollomain," he said, using Westian's second name in a way he had not since informal lectures years ago. "We do what we can and must, without thinking and overthinking, and trust in Larethian's grace. Evil turns upon itself, and those who courted the dark queen must now dance with her." he turned to the rest of the group. "While the dark queen tried to push in to our own realm, there is danger to all." Deephold looked to Ameena. "perhaps you can stay out of danger, and speak to Theron. Afetr all, the dark queen tried to mark you, and it might be dangerous to go near her." deephold turned back to the rest, especially Westian. "I do not think we should delay, nor entertain thoughts of speech. Not while the dark queen moves. We must defeat her, however we can, and then the blackskulls if they survive with us."

deephold has steel in his eyes - or tempered iron, by his own phrasing. Westian knew the dwarf was probably immoveable, though in times passed it had been the subjects of homework, books Weastian could not read, and spersonal subjects the dwarf would not speak of. Westian was reminded that he had not been in a situation like this, with this vcersion of deephold, the fighting cleric. That also meant Westian had no sense of whether to trust Deephold's own philosophy in this matter. The dwarf sometimes had a black and white view of problems and situtations. Sometimes.

Haynuus's own comments seemed perfectly timed - or maybe they had just tuned the ears of the Trolins back to the group's lower picched conversation. The Trolin King strode back to the group, Uumack trying ot move beside his king , to sneak passed to stand with Haynuus again. Guree moved on the other flank, apparently just wishing to stay away from every single mad one of them. However, she did not look as if she were going anywhere either, and was already prepping her wrist crossbow and then drawing a small serrated knife.

"Other Trolins - Karda's men and my men - stay behind us, protect from swift-death that come behind us. I will go alone," and the King gave an unfriendly look to Uumack and Guree who obviously were not going to stay behind, "and I fight with you to free mountain of black soldiers. For glory! For fame! For right of Trolin to have hero, no matter what Grey One say and do!"

Falkor had been quiet, but pitched an answer to Westan so that the others of the group could hear. "I can send a message to Theron's mind like I did to yours when we suspected the gnome. However, if Gholst is inside Theron's body and mind, he might hear it too. What would I say?" to the rest, Falkor reminded them that there were a few ghosts wishing to free the mountain too, that were awaiting a word. Falkor pointed to the green butterfly that moved from his shoulder back to Ameena's shoulder, saying that he thought the butterfly could even signal them. Or at the very least, signal Theron's sister, Kardadee, when they thought it might be prudent to show herself.

Ameena was temporarily distracted with the conversation and the buttefly's return to realise something niggling in her head. It was Helm's thoughts. Unseen by the others, Helm was once more trying ot conquer his fears and be useful. This time, he had moved forwards to get to the door of the main chamber. Ameena only realised what was going on a fraction of a second before everyone else did - for as soon as Helm opened the door a crack, all could hear the noise of shouting.

"Leave the traitor to me! Step aside or die!" came a powerful voice, echoing out of the chamber inside.

"N...no, please, remain calm! We ...we must unite and move to secure the mountain..." came a hesitant voice. Only Westian could be sure of it, though the rest of the group that had seen the man earlier could assume it was Theron.

Something was happening inside. Sadly, not the sounds of combat. However, clearly the sounds of some tension. Hopefully, some distracting tension.

Ok, Westian will sort of know the lay out if he concentrates, and Helm will know the start of the layout, so over the weekend I'll put up a provisional map of - I assume - the last area you guys will go to! *sniff* I can't promise Ameena not to TPK, I can only promise to not have any meaningless deaths. Still, really that's in all your hands right now!

Anywaym, one last round of plans and confirmations and so forth and reactiosn, and them one way or another I'm sure you will be pitched in to the thick of things. Or the edge of the thick of things...

Good luck guys! I might update over the weekend in this thread, I'm going to assume more likely OOC discussions this weekend and during monday, leading to a first proper update on Monday evening (giving OB and anyone else a chance to mull things over and post). Oh, unless the long weekend affects anyone, in which case Tuesday with a nudging update Monday :)

Upon hearing Falkor's suggestion of talking to Theron's mind telepathically, Aurek had to speak up, "You can really do THAT?!?" enquired the paladin. "You can actually speak directly into someone's mind? I must say THAT is an ability that is powerful indeed... and could be useful." continued Aurek, thinking on this subject for a moment.
"My suggestion is to use your cloak and see if you can stick your head into that room over there." he said, pointing to the slightly open door, where Helm was being a peeping-tom. "This could allow you to choose whether taking the risk of communicating with Theron is an option."

"I hope it doesn't all turn into a fight." says Ameena, somewhat sadly. "Hopefully we can just talk. Maybe Theron can...use magic...to...make people not fight? To make them stand still and listen instead? Maybe if we can talk to him, then he'll want to listen to us so he won't let people try to hurt us. I can try to talk to him...maybe...about the...person...um...and he might listen and...and maybe we can do something about that...Gholst. And then we can put the Soul Stone back together again and everything will be alright."
Then she notices Helm going to open the door, and turns, gesturing to him that he should move back and not put himself so close to danger. Her whiskers twitch nervously and the sounds from beyond the door make her even more anxious - it sounds like someone's about to get hurt.
"I think it sounds like someone's about to be attacked in there - I think maybe we should go and um...let them know we're here. Maybe they then won't hurt that person. But umm...I think we should probably not mention about the Soul Stone when we go in there, because...well, then they might try to stop us getting the rest of it."

OOC - Can't remember whether Ameena knows the whole of the Karnadee-spirit/Theron-guilt/Gholst-control story or whether that was an OOC revelation - I would guess she does know it, though, if someone in the group did by the time they reached the Path of Truth. Ameena would be willing to try and persuade Theron about the whole "let her go" thing, but as she has low Charisma and pretty shit Diplomacy skill I'm not sure I'd be much good at it mechanically - maybe Westy can help out there, though? Meanwhile Ameena will be trying to locate the rest of the Soulstone, though I imagine the largest fragment might be somewhere obvious. As to the one under Theron's nose, I have no clue. But maybe Ameena can mentiont that afterwards. Can I suggest once more that no-one mentions the SoulStone while we're confronting those guys in there, at least till Gholst is (hopefully) dealt with? They might know we're going after it and have got some of it anyway, but even then they still might not know which of us is carrying the currently combined fragments ;).

Hearing Theron's please to save the man's life, Haynuus realised that the archmage (and not forgetting arch- ninja, priest & fighter) was not all 'lost'. That the man could be reasoned with. However, time was of the essence as they say. They had to act quickly to save the 'traitor'... Who could be one of their own team!

"Please Westian, let us go in now. There is no time to lose and perhaps we can save an innocent life." he hissed.

Turning to Aurek he said "The only problem with using the cloak is that the dark elf mage, if he still has a little of his sanity, could overwhelm the cloak wearer in the other plane..." To be honest he wasn't completely sure of what he was talking about but he had understood from the halfling that they had to be very careful with it's use.

"I am ready to enter and they may already be aware of our presence." he announced and looked over to Uumack for a reassuring nod. He finally patted his own squelchy rucksack to reassure himself that this would be all over soon, and he could look forward to a life of screamer herding.

Westian nodded in acknowledgement of the dwarf's words. "Yes, you are quite right, we must remain focused. This mission is too important. Thank you, Brother Deephold." He straightened up, and assumed a calmer exterior.

Haynuus’s suggestion that the ask the Trolin’s what their plans were was pre-empted by the King’s announcement. The main force would stay behind, which meant that they would have to face the combined might of the leaders without them.

Westian smiled at Aurek’s enthusiasm for Falkor’s abilities. The halfling was indeed powerful; Westian had never seen arcane magic in person before. He had always been taught that magic cast by man was inferior to the magic gifted by the High Lords, but perhaps that was not accurate. It warranted further study. Maybe he could even convince the halfling to join the monastery for a time so he could learn from him. After all he had expressed deep remorse for an earlier attack on the blackskulls, perhaps Westian mentioning the purifying effects of time devoted to the High Lords would lead to Falkor suggesting this idea himself. Something to think about if they escaped from here.

“You should tell Theron that Karnadee spoke to us, and said that he carried no ill. The fault was no his, the incantation was hers alone."

“Use as much specifics as possible, things that only someone who spoke to his sister would know.” Westian briefly toyed with the idea of getting Falkor to pretend to actually be the voice of his dead sister, but then dismissed the idea. If it went wrong Theron would assume everything was a lie.

“The ghosts would at least be an excellent distraction, if it was timed to coincide with our entrance. But the messages first, even if Gholst does hear it. If you could encourage Karnadee to appear in person I think that could really swing this to our advantage.”

With that the sounds of Theron’s voice could be heard. “That is Theron speaking. We need to move quickly” he said firmly.

So Falkor is sent first, sends message and possibly Karnadee. And also mentions Dolo’s actions. Then we all move in, with ghosts if possible. How does everyone feel about that?

I'm going to move you all in as generally suggested, update post up first, the map of the area uplater tonight after I've done some other things first!

Falkor looked to Aurek, nodding in the affirmative,. and explaining that he had done so once before with Brighteyes, to trick the gnome. That he had also communicated with Westian in such a way to warn the cleric. Falkor did not of course mention that despite the farwarnings, Soorec had still managed to withhold a vital piece of information and still spring his lethal surprise on the group at the time.

It seemed a viable option to attempt to enter the room, althoguh Falkor warned his cloak had very limited magical charge left as mentioned, and indeed the powers of Gholst and Dolo were unknwon. As was the effect of a demon queen trying to move throgu hthe d=imensions to this one. Still, it was definitely worth a try, as suggested by Westian. Falkor also promised to try and make the ghosts understand what was required, and to cover the group entering if the Trolins would not be. It was also agreed the message to give to Theron, Falkor deciding to ask Karnadee herself if there were any other thigns that could be used.

Ameena's gestures to Helm were only half noted, as the thief dared to look inside. "Can't tell if people near the door - it seems to be happening further away..." he whispered urgently.

With no further delay, Falkor activated the cloak and disappeared. Helm gave a suspicious look to where Falkor had gone, but then to Ameena's mind she felt Helm relent such emotions when the thief looked back in to the room. It seemed that the knowledge that some of the greatest evil warriors were beyond this door was not a pleasant thought, and no matter the protection entering the place where any could have power over you was not a pleasant thought. Helm did not envy Falkor his cloak nor task, and instead started concentrating once more on what he could possibly do.

The green butteryfly was casually resting on Ameena's shoulder, however it suddenly took off in to the air and moved forwards, darting through the door. There was an odd feel to the air aswell, as if several - somethings - had just moved not only around but through the party - moving to the direction of the hall.

"I would say now is not the time to hesitate, as our paladin and orcish friend have said. Blessings of Larethian to all. Let us not falter now."

Helm had already opened the door a little wider and moved through. The Trolin King was also clearly feeling the tide and was not going ot be seen to be last. Without real conscious thought, tthe group were pulled onwards to enter the hall as quietly as they could, listening to what they could overhear, and looking to the sights of the new room as quickly as possibly.

The fear and adreneline of the situation let everyone's sight scan quickly aroudn the place. The senses of those attuned to such things allowed them to know that they were entering a place filled with evil - or certainyl a lack of goodness. The circular hall curved around enormously, in the shadowy light tapesteries and carvings were hinted at high on the walls. Westian knew the walls lifted high and finally curved to a subtle dark sapphire dome, however the light was concentrated in the room now to the centre, and did not reveal that fact well.

There were pillars all aroudn the outside, shaped like tree roots in some cases, like expanding clouds in others, and even like beasts falling upon themselves to lift each other up so the last coul lift up the ceiling. There was a second set of pillars ringed near the inside to help prop up the massive room. This second set were actually made out of materials other than stone, apparently chosen for their colours and textures so that harsh reds in front of the party rotated aroudn the room to become soft violets, a rainbow that grew to blackness on the left edge and would join back to harsh red. Despite these two sets of pillars, all might suspect that the room's heavy roof existed by the will of the Grey Lord, and would not fall down unless he wished it to. That these pillars had some symbolic and aethetic meaning.

The room was tiered in steps, ringns like a tree. The inital steps from the door were downwards, meaning the party were in an exposed position. The steps did not go down for long before spilling in to a small flat ring of floor where small curious and flat surfaces were dotted. The Grey Lord used these for items brought by guests, for food, for many things. The steps then occurred once more, raising up towards a central wide dias, as big as room itelf. There on one side was a twisted pillar about waist hieght as a person thick, upon whcih should have sat the Soul Stone. It was hard to see exactly what was on that pillar though, although Ameena's comments and the party's knowledge made them expect it was the largest fragment of Soul Stone, still existing.

What dominated the central dias - and Westian knew that it was not normally there - was an altar. In some ways it seemed like one of the VI Altars that had been dotted aroudn this place, although the shape of it was strange. It seemed to have several spokes to it, and a circular appearance.

Separated by the strangeness of it all, the party watched an odd play taking shape up by the dias. Over on the left were the oily remains of something. The slick from them trailed along to the right, where three figures seemed locked in battle. Haynuus and Ameena recognised the sight of Garax Warblade, with his strange circular multi-bladed weapon standing tall over the body of a slight, crippled elf. The efl seemed to be silently screaming, eyes wide and unblinking, mouth agape and stretching so that blood seemed to be forming from cracks at the mouth. The eyes were turned to where the party were, but the fallen and now pitiful looking face of their former foe did not appear to react to them. Garax himself had his back to the group, weaponed raised and locked in the dual grip of a towering form. The figure wore glowing blue armour, and his guantleted hands were locked around Garax's weapon.

"I will rip his bones from his body for his trechery!" hissed a void that carried from the blue figure. Garax's legs already seemed on the verge of buckling from the challenge.

Behind those two, locked in indecision, appeared to be a familiar figure, Captain Drommal. He looked as if he wished to intercede with the combat, and yet did not know which to go to. His sword vibrated in his hand, apparently ready to strike.

Nearer to the strange altar was another familiar figure, that of the soldier Passin. He was standing with a sword also readied, yet was apparently wearing no armour. His gaze was turned further back in to the room, to a smaller looking figure.

It was Theron. The mage - just on the edge of sight, kneeling behidn thr altar, seemed to be looking over to the Soul Stone. His eyes were streaming tears, and he seemed to be saying something that no one could hear. Clearly, this was the disposition Theron had been in when he had yelled earlier. Clearly Falkor's work must have caused this, However, what exactly was happenign was hard to tell. All the light of this place seemd to be focused on the central area beyond the second puillars. There were only a few light sources scattered around the edges of the hall. The group could perhaps be forgiven for thinking they saw movement around the second pillars, however what it might be was not clear.

As if to break each viewer from watching the diarama, and to remind them of the dangers faces, each person felt a light frost start to gather on their fingers and noses as they stopped to consider their move. Felt their breath come from their mouths as steam.

Ok, will leave it there. So stuff is happening. What that stuff is, and whether the party should interrupt it - that's to be revealed over the next update or two. Feel free to roll me some rolls for perception, stealth, knowledge, tactiics, etc. Or suggest some initial actions here. I'll try to get the map up last thing tonight, though I see time is already moving on :(

Anyway, this is the last hall. These are the uber-bosses, gathered, as you might find out, as a result of your actions in the past few days of game time (few years of real time!) And of course in disarray due to your recent actions, and their own tentions. Can you exploit this and win the day? Or will nasty things happen? Let's find out!

"Mummies?" Haynuus hissed to his trolin companion. The mummified creations of Dolo had a special frozen quality to them that would inflict perhaps not additional damage from disease but from the effects of chilling. He sidled over to the paladin to warn him. A detect evil may be worth it? He understood that the main characters in the arena still had not noticed them, or even had not cared. Perhaps now was the moment for Ameena to attempt to retrieve the soul stone?

The half-orc elected to stay quiet but moved to put himself and Uumack between the party and the movement he thought he had detected around the second set of pillars. Ready an action to full defend? He would place himself a little distance from the main party.

OOC - Note that we don't yet know exactly where the final piece of the Soulstone is - the largest part is presumably, as described, still on the plinth thing. But there is a final, smaller piece, the one "hidden in plain sight" which will be either in Theron's possession or close to him - however, Theron himself won't know this as Gholst hid it whilst in possession of Theron's body. That's the piece I'm mainly after. If I can get hold of that then all that'll need doing will be to combine it with the ones I've already got and bung it onto the main fragment, hopefully not while everyone else is getting stabbed to death (á le "The Dark Crystal" ;)). But we need to first make sure Theron can take care of Gholst - if we summon the Grey Lord too early, Gholst will kill Theron and Gery will turn into Chaos as happened in the First Run.

Westian held up his hand to signal people to stop, though whether anyone noticed when there was a far more important scene playing out in front of them was another matter. Communication would be difficult now that they were so close.

Moving now might be a mistake. They did not know how serious the divisions were in the group - perhaps an external foe would lead them to put aside their dispute for a time. Although as he watched it did seem like an awfully big dispute.

"If the priest dies, or Theron enters the battle, we move" he said in a faint whisper, probably heard only by those closest to him. Still, it felt better to have a plan.

He mentally prepared the syllables to form a shield around him and his allies if they were spotted, and he waited.

"This whole area seems to permiate a great deal of evil." says Aurek quietly to the others.
"Westian, what do you sense?" he asks the cleric, while concentrating on detecting anything he can.

I'm gonna go with Detect Evil here. I might be able to detect something I can't see.

Ameena stands upright, sniffing carefully at the air and listening intently. She also adds in a comment of her own for the others.
"We need to make sure Gholst can't hurt Theron or it'll all go wrong. Um. Again. I think. Or...something...?"

OOC - Perception for general...er...perceptioning of the area = 30 (19+11). Nice :). Now watch me fail at every thing else :D.

Uumack, upon hearing that the half-orc had suspicions of imminent monsters, had very kindly stepped out in front of everyone and stuck his chest out in a very cavalier manner. Haynuus was impressed, but now couldn't see what was going on. Currently they were in the shadow from two pillars and a stone 'thingy' and he really didn't want to reveal them all by stepping out.

He elected to move 5' slowly to Uumack's left side, to the front of the group yet remain in the shadow. With Aurek covering their right flank he had assumed that being near the front was the right thing to do. It was where the most visible danger was. Now though what to do? Falkor was presumably doing something clever yet mischievous while Westian appeared to be ready for one of his more theatrical gesticulations... Wait, then.

OOC - OK. I'll try a perception check over the movement around the second pillars (1d20+2=9).

Seeing everyone craning their necks to peer around him, Westian realised that he should probably do some investigating himself. Being close to the front gave him a good view. He edged forward slightly, and went down on one knee as he leaned into the pillar on his left. He kept an eye on the crowd in the centre to make sure they were not spotted, but also looked over to his right into the darkness.

Perception was 20 + 4 = 24. Damn it, if only I rolled a 21 I would have beaten a DC25. Cool map btw, fitting of a Finale! :)

OOC - Nat-20 is a crit, though, OB - you should probably get some pretty good results regardless ;). Basically I think we should probably be sitting tight until we find out what Falkor's been up to. Theron's letting go of Karnadee will be the main thing we want, I think, because then Gholst has no hold over him and it's Gholst who messed things up the first time around. Even if Karnadee is still trapped in the spirit world, so long as Gholst doesn't realise how close we are to freeing the Grey Lord (or even that that's our plan), I think we'll be okay for the time being. Hopefully ;).

@OB: Thanks for the map comment! @Ameena: Yeah, sitting tight and doing nothing while the NPCs win the battle for you is certainly how I run my games :p

Aurek begins specifically channelling his abilities as a paladin to feel the influence of darker High Lord's power, and the taint that introduces to normal people's actions. Petal says she does not have such a thing, instead she can only feel those who are attuned to nature - as she calls it. She had always equated it to good, to being so outlooking and connected to the world.

Deephold and Westian know that only paladin - with far more of a black and white focus - have the ability to be so sensative to evil. Aurek's senses slowly drown out the rest of the room. The greatness of the evil in this place is a physical thing, starting to crush Aurek as he tried to touch it. Take 3 non-lethal damage, I'm afraid. The nearness of the Demon Queen is terrifying, and a ticking clock. It takes longer to ignore than and feel the more subtle evils underneath. Aside from the Queen, Aurek can feel only one other difuse evil aura around - most likely Gholst. Other than that, there seem to be nine distinct auras in the room. Since only five people can at present be seen, this is troubling. Is this proof the Trolins or his own party are evil?

However, it only takes a moment more of concentration to realise nothing truly aligned to evil - not even the Trolin Knig - are at his side. Instead, Aurek can start to see the blooms in his mind's eye... The five on the dias, with the explosion of the demon queen above that. Oddly, Passin does not show an aura, it is his armour sitting on the altar beside him. Theron does not give off a bloom, instead there is a diffuse aura in the air between the soulstone and Theron. And two more fainter auras somewhere t the back of the room...

And two more, directly to the party's right! Haynuus's warnign regarding what could face them had been correct. Forewarned by the half orc and now his own senses, the paladin could sense what the moving shadows were. Somehting evil, powered directly by the demon queen Lolth. Haynuus's night sight, once drawn to the area, could work out exactly that his fears were realised. Two of those creatures, such as they had faced before, were lurking behind the pillars. What they were waiting for was unknown. Perhaps they awaited their true mistress to reveal herself, and order them to attack. Unfortunately, Haynuus was now positioned poorly to be able to tell properly, even though he saw enough of a ragged hand to know they could be nothing else but those frozen undead. Uumack did not have the same experience, and so while he readied his weapon, he still did not fully appreiaate why the coldness was linked to Haynuus's concern over mummies, nor could he appreciate more than Aurek and Haynuus's concern for the poinpointed moving shadows..

Westian tried to hold the group at bay, however teh Trolin King seemed to be impatient, especailly when the fighters huddled together, and Ameena and Petal started trying ot use other senses. "Why not attack now, when all distracted!" hissed the King. "Kill strongest. let weakest fight with us and do most of fight, then kill weakest when we win!" Clearly, he was falling abck on Trolin tactis that had probably worked very well for him over the years. Deephold gave the King a black look.

Ameena was lost in the smells of the place. The cold air was making it hard to breath, and yet the crisp air also seemed to be destroying some of the harsh metallic scents. It allowed her to latch on to a very familiar scent - Falkor's! It was so faint ,for the halfling had not left a scent trail, goign throguhthe ether. Obviously, he must have re-appeared for her to smell him. Petal seemed to notice what she was doing, that she had scented something in that vague direction. "Theron, good he still is!" she said of Theron, apparently having tried to sense his aura. She turned her powers to Ameena's side of the room, and pointed to the area of pillars. "Something good that was is!" Ameena knew that must be Falkor. She had scented enough things to know how far he must be, if the scent was fresh, to be this faint. She could nopt see him, but she almost did not need to, so confident could she be of his location.

Since I'm NPCing Petal right now, decided to use your good roll Ameena to justifying havign Petal's powers be useful. And now, something else fun for that DC 30 roll... I'll use an OOC questions as a base, hope you don't mind!

However, there was somethign else. Ameena's eyes had been drawn to the lights, wondering what the small shapes on some of the pillars were to be castign such bright light on the central dias. Als, it seemed as if the central altar itself was also adding to the glow. And then, suddenly, a few odd flashes of thought and memory came together. The altar had not been hear in the other time that was now hard to recall. The altar had been in the Grey Lord and Theron's private rooms. And the glow, the glow had meant something. No, it had disguised something. No one looked at the glowing centre of the altar, that was supposed to represent the sun, wasn't it, somehow? And it was a place Theron had long since got used to. Gholst could only have placed the last Soulstone piece more cunningly if he had placed it in the pillar where it used to be. And that had been under Dargat's control. No, instead, Gholst had placed it where the Grey Lord's essence was already infused, where the glow of it even if triggered would never be seen, a place that Theron would always be looking at yet never looking at, and so be the last place the archmage would ever check.

The last piece of the Soulstone was now right under eeryone's nose. It was in the centre of the altar.

Meanwhile, even as the Trolin King attempted to speak to Westian, the half-elf tried to take advantage of his position without alerting anyone else. Westian tried to concentrate on the things his eyes could see, however his 'affliction' came back to him, and he felt dizzy. All around him, the voices and thoughts and senses of his friends bled in to his thoughts. He could not help it, a map of the room - of the thigns Haynuus saw and Aurek felt, of the conflux of senses that pinpointed Falkor - all formed so easily in his mind. And worse, or better, the room itself was intruding in to his mind. He could see it all, laid out from memory when he had been here before, and from his connection to it now. He knew exactly where the two blackskull soldiers were standing that Aurek had detected, he could feel Falkor's presence and almost hear the halfling's thoughts, filling with worry for something was happening on the ethereal plane to do with Gholst, Theron and Karnadee. And knew those thoughts were dreamlike, for the halfling had once more been knocked unconscious by Gholst's power. And Westian felt the creatures standing awaiting their mistress, Passin standing, hesitant and uncertain in his choices, thinking of Westian and Aurek's words even now. Of Dargat and Garax so focused on hate for each borne out of an odd mutual respect and bonds of fellowship through the cult. Ready to murder each other for the betrayal the other assumed, all engineered by Dolo.

Westian knew that he was still linked lightly to the others, as they were to him. That even now Deephold, Helm, Petal, Aurek, Haynuus, Falkor, Ameena, Uumack, Guree and the Grrl the King were beginning to see the same picture that was forming in Westian's mind.

I can give Westian a DC26 pass for having a bonus from his unusual senses. And so, a metagame thing becomes narrative. All your characters will have a vague awareness of the entirety of the gaming map. And Westian will intimately know it all.

Dolo screamed. An inhuman scream. Higher pitched than any mortal should be able to manage. He lifted himself up on to his hands, head thrown back. Theron did not look around, but everyone else in the place did. Fighting was forgotten as even Garax and Dargat simply stared at the dark elf. The two mummies then screamed an inhuman scream too, adding to the chorus.

Lolth was getting stronger. She was gaining her foothold. She was almost here. And all at once, even as the rest of the enemy looked to Dolo and the mummies, Dolo and the mummies turned to look at the party.

Lolth could feel Larethian's minions. She was not pleased.

And there we shall stop. I'll update the map for everything hidden, and let you guys figure out your actions. everyone mortal except Theron is looking to Dolo and the mummies. Theron is apparently focused on somethign to do with the ethereal plan and Gholst/Karnadee. Meanwhile, Lolth is now focused o nthe group. How soon before the mummies attack, and the rest of the enemies get focused on you guys because of that, is probably an easy guess. Very soon :)

You have you literal PC hivemind, know where everyone is, know where the soulstone piece is, don't have anyone in the ethereal plane helping with the Theron situation, and apparently might well have an ally in Passin. Go team!

Haynuus didn't want to act first on this one, but did have a suggestion to make. He had just suddenly felt that strange feeling again of seeing without being. He instinctively knew it was Westian who was sharing these thoughts, and it was he who was channelling between them their immediate thoughts and preoccupations between each other. The guy would be handy in a brothel!(*)

"Psst! Ameena!" He hissed in a way that only an orc could both shout and whisper at the same time. "You concentrate on gettin' the soul stone pieces?" It was then he decided to switch swords to his OH blade, but not yet activate it. Maybe it's final destructive spell will come in useful for them all?

(*) Our half-orc briefly worked in a human one as some muscle, but never really understood what all of the money was being handed over for. Therefore Westian's new ability would have been really useful to know who was getting slapped about...(+)

(+) And not for fun either.

Aurek could feel the evil suddenly start to spike, "Lolth, the Demon Queen is gathering strength. We've got a big problem here." he said.

It was then that he had a sudden thought of 'the ladies of the night', thanks to Haynuus, but he realised that it wasn't his. "You've done many different jobs in the outside world, haven't you Haynuus?" he enquired, with a cheeky grin.

"We need to act sooner rather than later. I can sense two undead creatures, over there." he said, pointing over to the right, and moving slightly toward the direction of the mummies.

I'm gonna move a little toward the mummies, but still stay in the shadows.

The knowledge that Lloth herself was being summoned struck Westian like a physical blow, and he doubled over in his crouched position, his eyes wide with fear. Still, somehow he felt a reassuring counter presence. Perhaps it was Larethian himself, or the fact that the proximity of both Deephold and Aurek made his presence feel more real.

Or perhaps it was something more mundane, perhaps it was the knowledge that the people gathered around him – his friends – were all risking their lives facing this without any thoughts of turning back. He felt their resolve through their shared connection, and the only thoughts were how to end this evil.

Dolo had to be stopped before he could truly summon Lloth. That had to come first. Wordlessly Westian tried to communicate with Haynuus and Aurek, imagining them charging into the priest. With Aurek’s faith and Haynuus’s brute strength they might be able to break his concentration and sever the link he had to the Queen of the Demon Pits. But that would be a suicide mission unless there was some other distraction. Not fully sure what he was doing, Westian got to his feet, and waved the eager Trollin king and his kin – the remaining heavy hitters in the group – forward. Westian moved into sight of those in front of the altar.

“Dargat!” he shouted. “We must move now! The priest has betrayed his allies and killed Soorec. Garax knows of your plans! It must be stopped now!” he finished, charging towards the centre the whole time. “Now!” Hoping that he could sow confusion and build on the distrust, he shouted his best imitation of a war cry and mentally encouraged the fighters to do the same, trying to drown out any denials or communication between Dargat and Garax.

Bluff was on Garax/Dargat was 20 + 11 = 31! Yeah, go IC when I need you! Ameena, I moved forward because beo’s threat to start the fighting scared the bejesus out of me, but Westian will have tried to telegraph his idea to the group first. So Ameena could do her sneaky thing first, and indeed then have a good distraction while she moves.

Ho! smiled the half-orc to himself. So Westian had a master-plan after all! He had no idea who was plotting what or what goings on occurred in the Demon pits but he was happy to be acting once more like the hired hand that he was. He moved into view of all and remained one step behind the efforvescent cleric, 5' to his right side. He held his OH sword closely to him without 'igniting' it, and decided to aid Westian in his defence should anyone charge in his face.

Now in plain view of all he decided to take a look up and around for any danger lurking from above.

OOC - Got a 8 for the perception check :(
