Ah right, sorry, I didn't mean the tint colour, I saw that this was already possible. I meant the actual drop-off range of how much tint is applied at each sub tile distance. In RTC you can specify a range from 0-255 -- the higher you go, the darker the furthest distance is tinted. Is that possible at all?

No. Mostly because I don't totally understand what you're asking for.
Do you mean that if, say, you specify a tint of 0, monsters would look like they did back when DSB was bugged?

OK, it's a bit confusing I admit.

At the moment, you have a fixed calculation to work out how much shade to put over a monster at tile 1, tile 2 and tile 3. Perhaps it's something like +10%, +20% and +30% black, I don't know.

In RTC, if you increased the tint range, it would increase the amount of shading applied at each distance, so perhaps a higher value would instead make it +20%, +40%, +60%. (I'm talking about the shading applied to all flooritems, wallitems & monsters)

It's a nice feature that allows you create a fake "shorter" view ahead. I found it useful to make dark dungeons scarier -- it's harder to see what's coming ahead! ;-)

Something like that is definitely doable without too much difficulty.

It may seem that way ;-). In truth I've been dabbling with DSB for about a year, but never really "got it". I had just been skating over the surface without letting myself really understand it -- and this was more because I was trying to hold onto RTC (I invested many years learning RTC so you can hardly blame me!)

So I kept walking away from DSB, frustrated. Last night I properly set myself a task, pulled apart some existing code, tinkered with my own -- and something went click. Most of my reservations about switching to DSB simply vanished. I can't really explain it, but I'm sure you must have had similar moments Paul?

Indeed. I am very happy that you experienced
this Ah-Ha moment. The creativity within you
needs the proper tool to get expressed.
