(not a bug) Item shadow not a single colour

Post by Gambit37 »

When you pick up items and move them around (as the mouse cursor), they are given an offset duplicate which acts as a shadow. However, the shadow is a full colour copy of the item, with shading and lowered opacity. I think this should be set to use all black pixels as in the original DM (but keep the transparency, etc.)

Oh! OK. But it's not a shadow. Shadows don't cast the colour and details of the original object. It just looks weird. So while you may not class it a bug, it *is* wrong. :D

Meh. If it really bothers you I could make it an option. ;)

Heh he, honestly don't worry about it if it's an effort, I just wanted to report it as a bug because it looked like it wasn't rendering correctly. :)

No, it was by design. I realize that it's not a proper shadow, but, I coded it this way back before DSB supported alpha blending. Doing it that way was a way of making it look like the shadow wasn't 100% opaque without having to actually do any real blending. It actually worked pretty well on the default DM icons-- I guess you only noticed it now because you've been using your own icons?

Yeah, it looks weird on some of my icons, but even some of the DM ones too, such as the wooden shield. Maybe it's more noticeable on wider, fatter icons too. I have known about it for a while but kept forgetting to mention it.
