ADDING UP VALUES

in the course of playing with RTC, I never did figure out how to add values together, I am not sure I can but boy would it change what can be done. is there a way to add the value of one counter\object to another?. I have not given it much thought because I do not think I can do it. hopefully a brave soul will come forth and show me that this can be done. it will mean the world of difference in programming. I can come up with all sorts of ways to use it. currently just checking values, adding increments and decrements but I'd like to add the values. if counter A = 3 and counter B = 5, I'd like to get an 8 out of that. is this possible? greatly appreciate it if one could tell me that answer.
