Sicotropico - Enamorao: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLyuAyPoNCg - a very lively classical rock from Colombia; I heard it on the BBC one or two years ago and it keeps returning to me from time to time

Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?

It was about Albert Hoffman, the inventor of LSD while looking for a chemical to help women's monthly cycle. In this depiction he is acting as a shaman psychologist attempting to open the mind of a client who is learning who and what he is all viewed from a fly's perspective. He uses the shaman's drum to help enter the clients mind.

If you're European, chances are that you've heard this guy even if you don't know it. This has been running around in my head for days now. It's not my favourite of his, but there's something uplifting about it.

CS... I don’t know why I missed your next to last post. It must have just passed me by, but I love The Madcap Laughs. Such a great album, and Syd had such a unique style, so.....

To counterpoint that, I’ve been listening again to one of my favourite bands (maybe influenced by the fact that a couple of the guys come from my small hometown).
Did well in the late 80s to mid 90s, but this is from their 2013 comeback album.

Yeah, I’ve got weirdly eclectic tastes... sue me!

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Saumun, we have the same taste in music. Syd was way ahead of his time, a bit freaky. He enjoyed his psychedelic music and doing them, lol. I miss those days, I am feeling a bit old now but every once in a while I'll listen to it. Pink Floyd was my younger years. What's weird about that is I am not really a music lover, but I do like the strange and not ordinary music styles. I also like Drum and Bass, jungle ravish music. Not that thud stuff though. Carcass, that video is nuts. Not a fan of this stuff, where we separate a little in taste but there is no question on the talent here. I was never a heavy metal death band guy. I found parties were better without it, most girls were not into heavy stuff like that. I have friends who love it though.

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Oh, I know where you’re coming from. The extreme stuff is very much an acquired taste. Believe me, I have much crazier stuff than that.
I think a lot depends on your early experiences. Music is my main passion, and there was plenty of it when I was growing up. My dad only listened to classical and opera (on a record player in this huge cabinet next to his armchair). My mum was into crooners... Sinatra and such, and especially Matt Monro. My next oldest brother is eleven years older than me, so when I was a young kid he was a teenager (late 70s/early 80s) and a punk with green and white hair, and a bowler hat with pins in it. Consequently there was a lot of The Strangers, The Clash, etc.
Got into prog stuff through the brother of a friend, starting with the likes of Marillion and working back (which is how I got into Floyd and Syd). Got rock and metal partly on my own, and partly through another friend’s brother (who had Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden albums), which then progressed into extreme metal. Got into a lot of the more indie side in the mid to late 90s.
So, there’s a hell of a lot of stuff I’m into and influenced by (I write my own stuff on and off too), but going back to Syd, what really strikes me is his pretty unique lyrical style. It’s all his own, and I’ve honestly never heard anything similar that didn’t sound forced.

Re: song in my head.. what's yours?
Yeah, my dad was the same, and he'd play it as loud as possible, the entire neighborhood knew my dad was having a few, but nobody dared to bother him about it, he had twelve children. I slept in the attic with my head covered in pillows. It was pure torture. My dad only listened to classical
I had eleven older brother and sisters and most of them listened to the same stuff, Beatles, Led Zep, the usual, blues. At the time I was not a music lover, a few of my siblings played the piano, we had one of those things, never rubbed off on me. Music didn't make an appearance to me until I heard drum and bass. The undulating beat, the slow rise to climax and quick fall. I was in My 30's before music of this type grew on me. It was the rave scene that brought it out of me. I liked Pink Floyd and other bands, just didn't listen to it much and it never was a party style of music. Not a guitar fan, bands such as Boston or Steve Miller were not my taste. Sex Pistols were cool, had a few years of dating punk girls, lol, weird hair, bling and color, didn't last long though. As you said, Syd was unique, his bluesy timing was attractive, still is, I like his voice.
