Holders created in-game (working for party but not monsters)
Ran into a problem...
If a holder is created in-game rather than placed in the dungeon at the start, it doesn’t seem to hold monsters.
It does, however, hold the party if you step onto that square.
Does anyone know why this is, or a way around it?
I want them to act the same as a regular holder.

I am very sure that Adamski knows, his spells did exactly that. I have not tested this out. I am sure it can be done, the ice and web spell worked in UD.

Hmm, yes that’s true. I had forgotten about those spells, but I imagine they must work with holders.
The only difference with the one I have is that it isn’t shot. It’s created in front of the party.
As I mentioned, when monsters walk into the created holder they are not held... but the party is. Weird!
Maybe Adamski swapped the cloud for a holder. Worth giving a try. I’ll see how I get on.

Saumun and Chaos, I'd like to tell how the holders work. I say in advance that there is an absurd RTC bug.
The holders created in-game always work with the party, but non always with the creatures. The prerequisite is that in the same level there's already a holder or a clone of it (it doesn't matter in what tile). Otherwise in that level the monsters won't be affected by any new holder.
There is a link of a little example: http://www.mediafire.com/file/1rrlrlv5h ... s.rar/file
As you can see, on the level 0 the holders don't work. On the level 1 a holder already exists (top left) and the new holders can block the creatures too.

Hello Adamski, glad you're back. I have a billion things to chat with you about, try not to disappear this time eh
I will test the example above, do a little playing around with it. There are a bunch of bugs with RTC, a lot of them can be circumvented and some of them there is nothing that can be done. I think it would be great if we start up RTC topic of all the bugs and their solutions if there is one, kinda round them all up.

Yeah, that is a strange bug, as long as there is one holder on the level, it works.

Works great now. Cheers Adamski.
How on earth did you discover that?

Chaos, I'll try to be more present on the forum . Great idea a topic with all the RTC bugs. A list of all the bugs could be very useful. I found lots and lots making UD.
Saumun, I discovered it when I made the silk spell for Fahn and the emerald staff. I noticed the silk held the monsters on some levels but not on others, so I investigated. It took a while but I found it in the end.

Sure thing, this will most certainly be of help to those building a dungeon. I was thinking about going through the list of things from start to finish, just hack at it and look for problems. I like to test stuff. I am all for it.

Definitely a good idea.
Where to start though?
I’ve often come across weird stuff, but I have never written them down. I really should have.

Re: Holders created in-game (working for party but not monsters)
It's been ten years, if it wasn't written down it will be hard to remember for sure. A lot of the stuff I wrote down was when I didn't grasp RTC GUI yet which is why it will be exciting to go through it all, lots of notes, see what I can find. I will start from the beginning though, like this
BASH -
BERSERK -
BLOCK -
BLOW HORN -
BLUDGEON -
When that list of attacks is done, then we can work on the other functions, such as objects and so forth.
