Question about the buttons-pressing imp

Post by Danielle Blue Steele »

I've been looking through the official guide found at the wiki, and found something very surprising.

The guide says that the maze with the button-pressing imp, the teleporter fields and the fireballs holds a full set of techplate. I have never found that in any playthrough, nor have I seen any letsplay where anyone has. Is it there at all, or has it been removed and the guide un-updated or whatever? There's something about opening and closing a pit, there's no pit in there, is there?

I'm so confused.

I'm pretty sure I've had the tech suit - it's really heavy, so normally I think I just use the shield for the teleports and ignore the rest.

I checked all the variants of the Skullkeep dungeon files with DMDC2.
The area you mention is on map #26.
The Tech Boots, Tech Plate and Tech Poleyn are present in the following versions of the game: PC-9801, FM-Towns, IBM PS/V, PC-9821, Macintosh Japanese, Sega CD English & Japanese
They are missing in all other versions: Amiga, Macintosh English, PC

I have added a note for these 3 items on this page: http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/273

@ChristopheF, Thank you, thank you so much! That really does put my mind at rest, I felt like I was taking crazy pills.

Is the pit, and the switch toggling it and all the stuff the manual mentions, removed as well? Given how most of these switches are lethal I'm pretty sure most people would not have checked all the switches, but if the stuff is not there it makes sense for the whole area to be different. I admit I was trying to compare the map in the manual with the map in the game but had trouble doing it. I am not very smart :/

@Ameena, the whole techsuit can be bought in the shop so you could have it regardless.

Yes. The whole area is different and was clearly redesigned between the two variants.

Yeah I was sure I'd had the tech suit, just couldn't remember where I would've got it. It's been a while since I played (still got the original disk, though!), so I can't remember details on stuff like that that I didn't do much with.
